Electric Scooters Recalled Due to Malfunction

Scooter lovers, listen up: 23,000 segways are being recalled.

Safety officials say the electric scooters could unexpectedly go into reverse, possibly causing the rider to fall.

Segway has received six reports of scooters malfunctioning and riders suffering head and wrist injuries.

The recalled scooters first hit stores in March 2002 and were sold until earlier this month.

Consumers should stop using the Segway PT immediately and contact the company to receive a free software upgrade.

Call Segway Inc. at (800) 750-6557 between 8AM and 8PM, ET, Monday through Friday, or visit www.segway.com. Segway Inc. and Segway authorized dealers and distributors are directly notifying owners of these products.
