Elkhart police discovered a mobile meth lab in 42-year-old Steven Hardy's van during a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Police say they pulled over Hardy because he was weaving over the center line and speeding.

Three working pots with chemicals, filters and empty Sudafed packets were found in his van -- pots that police say are very dangerous.

"If it does explode, not only does it explode and cause a fire, it's a car that could be anywhere in the city or anywhere in the county," said Lt. Ed Windbigler of Elkhart Police.

That meth bust happened near Ash and McKinley at around 2:30 Monday morning, but it wasn't the only one.

At around 10:15 a.m., officers from Kosciusko County Sheriff's department found a mobile meth lab in a stolen truck.

Warsaw men Gene Michael Poe and Stephen Ray Harris were arrested and charged with felony auto theft and felony dealing/manufacturing methamphetamine.

And those incidents came after a South Bend house explosion Sunday evening. Police suspect a meth explosion was the cause.

Police found ingredients for making methamphetamine in the home.

Meth used to be a rural problem -- at least typically, said Windbigler. But more and more, incidents are happening in the city.

Police say possible signs of meth activity outside a home are large piles of garbage; people coming and going all day and night; and strange odors coming from the residence.
