If you’ve filed for unemployment benefits and you don’t have a computer, you know about the long lines. Libraries have been pitching in with extra computers for quite some time, but now businesses are doing it too.
KP Computers in Osceola opened its location a few weeks ago with five computers just for filing unemployment benefits.
"The way our economy is, everybody needs help to help each other out,” said Kenny Perry, who runs the business. “If we don't help each other, we don't have nothing."
His shop is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, typically the most popular day to file for unemployment, and you can stop by for free donuts and coffee as well.
Another business helping out is Premier Rental-Purchase in Goshen, where computers are set out just for filing unemployment. They didn’t used to be open on Sundays. Now, the store is open from 12-4 p.m. Sunday. Free donuts and coffee are provided.
To reach KP Computers, you can call 574-361-2378.
Premier Rental-Purchase can be contacted at 574-533-5353.
Another place to file unemployment is St. Mary the Protectress Church in Plymouth.
The church is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday to help. The coffee is always brewing and most days there is also some homemade bread and homemade soup for everybody.
The telephone number at the church is 574-540-2048.
