Michiana wakes up to ice and freezing rain

Freezing rain quickly coated cars in South Bend and Mishawaka this morning -- just in time for the commute to work.

Plows were out in full force, dropping salt and gravel.

Even with the icy conditions, drivers say the roads were okay, provided you took your time!!

"Drive really slow. 15, 10, 5 miles an hour and I'm just fine. I worry about the other people who are out there, not about me," said Jackie Boyton.

Other drivers expressed the same approach of taking more time, and going slowly.

South Bend Regional Airport had a few cancellations and delays this morning.

But most of the problems came from connecting flights.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed today at Chicago O'Hare.

Police report a number of slide-off accidents early Friday and expect the number of accidents to increase as the morning progresses.

The ice is also causing scattered power outages. Many schools are delaying or canceling classes today.
