Local street departments and utility companies are on standby tonight, preparing for the worst.
NIPSCO and Indiana Michigan Power tell us they will have crews ready to deal with any power outages in the area.
Meantime, the Mishawaka Street Department is also preparing for the worst.
A salt and sand mixture is being used to stretch the spread for budget purposes.
Also, hardware stores could see a run on supplies, depending on the winter forecast.
"We will put salt and sand down, and that will do the job, but you can't be on every street when it first happens, so it take several, probably 6 hours, to get around to tall streets. People have to drive the speed limit or below all winter long and they should be fine," explained Mike Watson of the Mishawaka Street Department.
In order to prepare for a potential power outage, review the survival tips listed on I&M's press release. That can be accessed online at http://www.indianamichiganpower.com/news/releases/viewrelease.asp?releaseID=633.
