Early evening accident a sign that roads remain slippery

Although we have not had new snow in our area since last night, there were still a few nasty accidents out on Michiana's roads today.

Early Wednesday evening, a driver went off the road in his pickup truck near North Liberty.

It happened on Primrose Road, near State Road 4 just south of Potato Creek State Park.

Police say the man went off the road and struck a tree.

His truck had excessive damage, and the man was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and a head injury.

Elsewhere in St. Joe County, two people died in an accident on Cleveland Road.

Police say a Lincoln was heading east on Cleveland around Nadine street and the driver lost control.

The car then crossed the center line and hit an SUV.

Two people in the Lincoln were killed.

Police say the roads looked fine at some points Wednesday, but were actually still slick.

"Some of them look like they may be clear, but black ice, it's just a dangerous situation,” said Sgt. Bill Redman. “People want to make sure they have enough time to get where they need to go."

Police say weather was to blame.

The names of the two people killed haven't been released, but we do know, they were both from Dowagiac.
