A morning crash closed a stretch of Douglas Road in Mishawaka for two-hours on Tuesday.

The accident happened around 9:30am, between State Road 23 and Grape.

Police say two vehicles collided on slippery roads, and an SUV hit a utility pole.

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.

It has been a busy couple of days for tow truck drivers. They remind you to be careful on the slick roads.

"Slow down, use your head. If you think it might be slippery, it probably is," says Gary Mayfield of Best Way Towing. "If it takes you an extra ten minutes to get there, great," he adds.

They also want to remind drivers that just because the road was safe earlier, that does not mean it will stay that way, "As temperatures drop in the evenings, it tends to make it a little more treacherous. Throughout the day the roads are fine, but colder temperatures make it a lot worse."

An empty car seat was sitting next to the SUV because the driver had just dropped his kids off at daycare.

Be prepared, and of course slow down. With ice and snow on the ground, you put on the winter boots, right? Why not put REAL snow tires on your car. I drive with the best snow tires, the difference makes my normal RWD car better than all SUVs and trucks with 4WD, or any FWD car. For the cautious people that do slow down, why do you have drive side by side, next to each other? Why block all the lanes? Let the more capable cars go thru. This doesn't mean we are driving like maniacs, it just means we have more traction than you do. ABS, Stability control, traction control, etc... these electronic aids only work with the AVAILABLE traction. Start with BETTER TRACTION with REAL SNOW TIRES. All season tires are NOT winter snow tires!

Slow down & clean off your cars!! I'm tired of cars on my tail since I am cautious and the ones that can't see! Stop putting my safety in danger!

To those people who insist on driving fast on slick and icy roads... Try this... Run down your street or sidewalk and when you see a patch of ice, jump on it and try to stop. This is the equivalent of the amount of footprint your vehicle has on ice. If you fall on your fat backside, it's the equivalent of all four wheels of your SUV trying to STOP on ice. Think people. SLOW DOWN!!!

I drive an SUV...I am very cautious on snowy roads. My 4WD won't stop me from sliding on ice anymore than a 2WD does! Slow down people PLEASE!

I am a driver of an SUV and I drive very cautiously, especially in the snow. As a matter of fact, I often times see that the ones driving too fast for the condtion of the roads are those in smaller cars. Either way, no matter what you drive, when you drive irresponsibly, you are endangering everyone on the road.

well, that may be the case, but there are some people who do use caution, and SLOW down. I am one of them. The roads in Elkhart were nothing but a sheet of ice this morning, and I did slow down to 25 mph. I do see everyday where some people think that they are like steel driving down the road because they are in an SUV. I on the other hand, value my Jeep, and don't take the irresponsible actions to cause me to wreck my vehicle. Ice is ice, no matter what you are driving.

Hmmmmm, I didn't see where they said how fast anyone was going.

i AGREE WITH j SUV'S AND TRUCKS ARE MORE DANGEROUS IN THE SNOW THEN CARS, THEY DONT GET STUCK BUT THEY DONT STOP OR TURN ANYWHERE NEAR AS WELL AS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR WOULD IN THE SNOW...THEN YOU ADD THE 7000#S AND ITS VERY DANGEROUS

J, they didn't say who was at fault.

Drivers of Trucks and SUV's believe they can drive as fast as they want in the snow.
