It has been ten months now since a South Bend family was touched by tragedy. You may recall, Jeni Bishop, a nurse at Memorial Hospital, was shot and killed in suburban Chicago last February. Jeni was shopping at a clothing store and was one of four women killed that day. Police are still searching for the killer.

With the holidays upon us, Jeni's nursing friends have created a cookbook that will keep her memory alive and help her children in the future.

The good news is anyone can buy these cookbooks for just 10-dollars apiece, and the great news is all the proceeds go to the Bishop Children's Education Fund.

Jeni Bishops' family says education was a big priority for Jeni and her family.

It has been ten months since Brian Bishop became a single dad. Jacob is now eight, Joci is six, and AJ is 16 months old.

On February 2, 2008, a gunman took the life of their wife and mother, Jeni Bishop.

"My whole mantra from the beginning has been don't look back and don't look too far forward," says Brian Bishop. "There's not a training seminar -- it's baptism by fire."

Brian's focus is now on his three young kids, and he was happy when Jeni's nursing friend Sarah mentioned her cookbook idea. "I think this is an honorable way to remember her," says Brian.

"We sort of compiled them all to what, I hope, is everybody's favorite cookbook," explains Sarah Paturalski, Jeni's friend and co-worker.

The cookbook is titled "Nursing Measures," and is a collection of more than 250 recipes from Jeni's family and friends, with many from nurses at Memorial's ICU.

"There's probably not a day that goes by that somebody in the ICU doesn't think of her," says Sarah. "I wanted to come up with something that was tangible, that people could hold onto, that they could have as sort of a memory of Jeni, but also that they would use, and I was hoping to come up with an idea that we could sell right around the holidays."

Many recipes in the cookbook are straight from Jeni's own collection. "Her alfredo sauce is my favorite. My stomach is probably two inches to the narrow because I haven't had it in a year," says Brian.

Once publishing costs are paid for, all proceeds from the cookbook sales will go to the Bishop Children's Education Fund.

"It's hopefully going to give them endless options when it comes to college time. Hopefully they'll get amazing choices and their education is going to give them many opportunities in life," adds Sarah.

"I think the cookbook is a great idea. I tend to forget how much she enjoyed to cook and how she enjoyed it in the past two years, getting into it," remembers Brian.

"For now, I think especially with the holidays, we just want to remember her spirit, exactly how it was," adds Sarah.

Sarah also says she will remember Jeni as a great mom who cared deeply about her family. She is hoping that word spreads about this cookbook sale.
