Saturday night will be the biggest game of the Charlie Weis era.

With 14 losses in the last two seasons, Weis' job could be on the line if his Irish can't pull off the momumental upset over arch-rival USC in Los Angeles.

Kickoff is at 8pm Saturday night.

Weis is 0-3 against the Trojans in his career.

Meanwhile, the game will be a homecoming for quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who grew up in Southern California and knows more than half the USC players.

His decision for college also came down between Notre Dame and USC and he has a unique take on the rivalry.

"To be honest, they really don't like Notre Dame," Clausen said. "They just think a little Catholic school in Indiana. No one knows where it is, where is South Bend, Indiana. To be honest, they really don't like Notre Dame and don't really respect Notre Dame."

"I think Notre Dame respects USC like they should any team. But it's a great rivalry. I used to go to the games when Carson Palmer was there and when I was a young kid. So it's a lot of fun to watch those games."

Buh Buy Charlie! Pack your rather large suite cases and go back to New England.

Brian, most USC fans are ghetto thugs, just like their players who take money and gifts to play. They can't spell their own names, much less someone else's! Either that or they jumped on the bandwagon when they were number 1 and are just hanging on until USC falls down in the polls. That's why the largest fan base in college football is ND- they stick by their team, win or lose. I agree with Anonymous- he looks like a slob that couldn't motivate anyone.

Don't blame the team. They hear that obnoctios pile of blubber tell them constantly that he is the head coach and as such, he is almighty and they are supposed to do whatever he says. He knows nothing about football but he expects everyone to accept his spoken word as final. Get rid of him while you have the chance.

"first off to usc fan its weis" Why are you telling USC fans how to spell Weis? I think you might want to learn what a capital letter is. But as for his name, I see a lot of ND fans spell his name Weiss. Why is that? Most USC fans seem to know the proper spelling.

Posted by: Brian Location: Irvine, Ca. on Nov 30, 2008 at 02:34 PM
I think Jimmy Clausen needs to keep his mouth shut. What does he know about what USC thinks? I think what he said USC thinks of Notre Dame is more what he thinks about Notre Dame. Why did he ever choose them if he feels that way though is beyond me. He was held back in school so I guess he isn't the smartest pickel in the jar.

Margaret, if you are saying Mr Weis is smug, then he should fit right in at ND with their arrogance. Oh and he is also a lousy coach too (besides him being morbidly overweight - his weight is NOT a good imagine to teach his ATHLETIC STUDENTS with - it tends to come off as slobbish and uncouth) I'm overweight myself so don't go there.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:32 AM
I say get Yeoman from Penn High School to caAch at ND. iF HE CAN LEAD THAT TEAM HE CAN HANDLE nd.

Charlie's offensive genius at work again. It really was offensive to us, back in Indiana. And pathetic, too. Reading Jimmy's quotes in this article: he doesn't sound as smart as Forrest Gump. Notre Dame is proud of their academics and athletics. The ND on the uniforms stands for "Nowledge and Defense." Hey, we held them to under 50! You go, Charlie and Jimmy. Go anywhere, but back onto any football field. It isn't a good fit for either of you.

For all of you who are attacking Charlie's weight...it is not funny and has nothing to do with the fact that he is a terrible coach. There are many people who are overweight that really do know what they are doing and do their job well. Look passed the outer person and focus on his personality which is typically east coast-smug.

When are ND fans just going to admit that this is not a coaching problem? They lack talent and depth and need to be playing a very weak schedule every year. They should schedule teams like Brown, Harvard, Yale, Army, etc... Those would at least be good games. As of right now i think Penn High could beat the Irish.

Buh-bye "coach" Weis...pack up your spoiled wife and kids and get out of here. Hand the over-priced house keys of your "Granger home" over to someone who can actually be a real coach who deserves to live like someone who's worth having around. To Notre Dame: Who the hell hired Charlie Weis? Put someone in charge of hiring a football coach who actually knows the game of football. This goofball who's been coaching for more than long enough obviously doesn't. Then, fire all the coaching staff who's been under "the great Charlie Weis" and find people who know what they need to do and how to do it. The rummys who've been coaching the team obviously don't have a clue how to do their jobs. And, "Yes" to anyone who may ask if I think I could do better. I'd LOVE the opportunity to prove than I can!

Posted by: anthony on Nov 29, 2008 at 08:56 PM
first off to usc fan its weis, but dont worry he will be gone soon. this is beautiful hopefully ND gets beat by 50 and ND becomes 1 step closer from getting rid of the useless lump of space. Sincerly ND FAN

Lose 75 lbs..what, is he shooting for morbidly obese. He needs to lose over 150 lbs. Hes an easy 380.

Glad they are playing in California, NO snowballs. It will be great not to see another post on how bad the ND students were on throwing snowballs. Please, Students!! if you want to throw anything at one of the Cops on the sideline, please throw him/her a donut. Better yet just hand it to him/her. I wonder how many of those who got hit actually went to the hospital. I am willing to bet that the two schools that gets picked to play in the Orange Bowl, that their students throw oranges onto the field and players. Clausen is right when he says "no on knows where Notre Dame is located". Only if you come from this area or really follow college football do you really know where South Bend, IN is located. Sorry to you South Benders, but if it wasn't for Notre Dame, this city would be just like Benton Harbor. Dead!!!!!!

I can't wait to watch this game. I love to see a good ND drubbing....Charlie, do yourself a favor and lose about 75lbs.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 29, 2008 at 05:10 PM
I must be a USC fan. Because I do not like NOtre Dame and really do not respect Notre Dame's filthy foul mouth coach or it's administration! One can only pray for change. This could very well be the end of the Weise error!

Just heard Charlie was fired and it will be announced tonight. Is this true?

Posted by: TP Location: SB on Nov 29, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Hey Kamble, actually you can go and fire any or every coach that does not live up to their hype. Thats the American way. You pay someone to win, they lose, they get fired. You gather up some money and pay the next guy. If he doesn't win, poof, fire him too. If he does do a good job, bye, bye again. Repeat until you get the results you're after. Its that simple.

Jimmy will embarrass himself in front of his hometown fans! WHy? Because the kid can't play under pressure. I wish he would prove me wrong!! Don't tell me it's not just his fault. BUt the QB is supposed to be the team leader and he hasn't led for 2 years. Let Evan play, or Montana's kid. Let someone else start this game. It's probably gonna be a blowout anyway. Pete Carroll loves to run the score up on teams, just like Miami of old. Find us a QB with heart and maybe the Irish can turn it around for next season. I just hope the good kids we have don't transfer out to a school where they can win a championship. C-ya Charlie, can't say it's been fun these last few years. I had great hopes and expectations...what a farce this has been. Don't let the door hit ya in the hiney!

I think Mrs. Weis should get ready to call Cressy-Everett realty on Monday morning-cause Charlie is gonna be gone.

Before NBC carried ND football, WNDU had ND games that weren't carried by a national network. I enjoyed Tom Denin (hope I spelled his last name correctly) as the play by play man on WNDU. Than came Jeff Jeffers. Jeffers is such a homer, and I like homers, Ron Santo being one, that I was cheering for the opponent to win just so Jeff would sink into an emotional abyss and almost begin crying. NBC's commercial breaks are far too long, but Jeff made watching an ND football game unbearable.

I predict today's game against USC will be an upset! YES all real Notre Dame fans will be upset again! Do I think Notre Dame will play in a Bowl game, yes if they go to the toilet bowl. Sorry Charlie-over rated, number 7, definitely over rated. Clausen the only reason you chose Notre Dame over USC is because you would have been on the bench for Pete Carrol, and I think that hate you carried for Notre Dame growing up, shows in your play for Notre Dame now. You missed a wide open Golden Tate in the enzone against Syracuse? some of the best hands in college football! The former AD gave Charlie Weis a extended contract and then got he heck out of Notre Dame to go ruin some ones else program, otherwise Charlies contract would be over and there would be nothing to discuss, next time let's wait until the Coarch has proven himself before we give him an extended contract. I actually thing the second string quarterback if given a chance would have done better than Clausen, he did last year.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM
I hope ND wins and fires Charlie. Besides where the program has gone since his big superbowlrings arrival I heard from several people that have associated with him that he's a grubby, dirty, rude, arrogant, jerk. Hope he goes to the Lions and coaches them to a spectacular 2-3 wins for the next 10 years. Father Ted, you know what the right thing to do is...

The musical group Steam has a song....Na, Na, Na, Na - Na, Na, Na, Na - Hey, Hey, GOOD BYE! Charlie, you are HISTORY!

Posted by: Kamble on Nov 29, 2008 at 09:28 AM
well if every team had a winning season there would be no number 1 at the end of the year....and you cant go firing all the coaches each time you have a bad season its ridiculous...you can coach bad which is true but if the players play badly its not always the coaches fault...you don't see them kicking players off the team

the spread is only 30 points... Take SC.LOL I do think that regardless of tonight, ND should go to a bowl if for nothing else but the practice. We all know they desperately need it.

Posted by: Sad on Nov 29, 2008 at 05:27 AM
It will be one ugly game tonight. ND will get spanked by a REAL football team today.
