Today is known as "Getaway Wednesday" and while many major airports are packed with people, it was a different story this morning in South Bend.
Around five o'clock this morning a few people were in line to head off for their holiday travels.
The average wait time at check-in was only a few minutes and security moved just as quickly.
Although airlines offered cheap last minute fares, many folks we talked to booked their trips well in advance, and some to places a lot warmer than here.
“We usually fly this early in the morning to get a good start and make sure that if we do have trouble along the way there's more options as you go along. I don't know, South Bend usually isn't overly crowded,” says Greta Hammond, who was traveling this morning.
The majority of the travelers this morning were college students heading home for their Thanksgiving break.
And for those who are driving to their destinations, the interchange at I-65 and I-80/94 is back open.
All of the ramps opened for traffic late last night. They were closed to reconstruct ramps at the interchange.
Officials hope the improvements will result in less traffic merging and better flow on the highway.
