All this season, the Fighting Irish have been honoring their championship coaches.
And it only seems fitting that the last home game of the season was saved for the greatest college football coach of all time, Knute Rockne.
He is still regarded as the most famous coach in the history of American sports.
He put Notre Dame Football into the consciousness of America, where it still resides today.
He took the game from one of brute force, to one of speed and skill, he created the Four Horsemen, and gave one of the most famous speeches in American history, imploring his to win just one for "The Gipper."
"You just really loved him. You'd break your leg for him. You'd cut your neck right off for him if he asked you to do it," said one of Rockne's former players, Adam Walsh.
