Months ago Dr. Robert Zimmerman was ousted as superintendent of the South Bend Community School Corporation. James Kapsa took over on an interim basis.
Monday night, the board voted to remove the interim title. Now, Kapsa is officially in charge.
James Kapsa joined us in the studio for a chat Wednesday on NewsCenter 16 at 5:30. Erin Logan and Maureen McFadden talked with Kapsa about his plans and goals for the next five years.
“It all boils down to two major goals,” said Kapsa. “And that is the budget, and trying to improve the graduation rate. And every other topic fits under those two categories.”
“A lot of it is going to have to do with what the community will work with us on, as well as I’m very much concerned about the General Assembly that’s meeting in January. It has to do with funding. It has to do with various waivers and whatever for the corporation. So we’re monitoring that. We’re lobbying with those groups and seeing what we can do.”
