We are getting closer and closer to the holiday season.
And one area food bank is stepping up its collection efforts in time to bring some holiday cheer to hungry families.
The Salvation Army is getting help from the Elkhart YMCA in helping families in need this holiday season.
It is called the "Can the Van" food drive.
The goal is to see how many times the YMCA can fill its vans with food says YMCA events coordinator Jennifer Keen.
"We haven't really set a goal, we're hoping to fill the vans each at least one time, and get it over there," she added, "Right now we're at about 900 cans, so that was just what was collected this week and so I would like to maybe see that number doubled or tripled by the end of the day today."
They also want to remind you that every child that brings food in gets a free Frisbee.
You can donate food to help stock the Salvation Army's food pantry for the holiday season.
Boxes will be left in the front lobby for at least another week.
