Monday in South Bend, “Rudy” made it clear who he is rooting for this election.

Actor Sean Astin played the title role in the movie “Rudy,” about a walk on Notre Dame Football Player.

Astin stopped by the Democratic Headquarters in South Bend Monday to give a pep talk to campaign workers.

“We’re going to elect the first African American President in the history of this country,” Astin said.

The last time Astin came to town was in February, when he campaigned for Senator Hillary Clinton at a rally in Mishawaka.

Today, Astin made it clear that he is firmly in the camp of Barrack Obama.

"I called my friends in the Obama campaign and said, do something with me, let me go somewhere, tell me where I can be helpful,” Astin said. “People of goodwill have got to learn how to work together, we can't be about fighting anymore and that's part of Obama’s whole message.”

Sean Astin lives in California, but his wife’s family is from LaPorte County.

I really don't care about this guy or who he voted for. Why is this news?

Posted by: Lori Location: LaPorte on Nov 4, 2008 at 06:26 PM
That makes me soo sad, because, just once in my life, I would've loved to have met him. =(

Who cares who he votes for? So long as he votes! Just like EVERYONE ELSE, REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU VOTE FOR JUST BE SURE TO VOTE!! Many have fought and died for our right, don't let them down. If you love your country, prove it, take a stand and pull the lever. If you don't vote you have lost the right to complain and gripe about our country and what is happening.

He wasn't Frodo, he was Mikey Walsh the kid who saved the Goon Docks and found One-Eyed Willie's treasure with Mouth, Data, and Chuck...despite his asthma.

Um. Sean Astin wasn't Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was Samwise Gamgee. He's an ACTOR, not a "fantasy actor"; he's played many different roles. And he is a citizen of a great country where he's allowed to support whatever political party he wants to and can speak freely about it!s

Astin played Sam Wise Gangy not Frodo. I have had conversations with both the real Rudy and Sean when he was campaining for hillary and Sean is much more interesting. As for thoughs making fun of the voter, welcome to Indiana, and welcome to the working class. McCain voters keep talking about how they're small town people but then turn around to make fun of them if they are not voting with them. Bet none of you would callenge that guy to a fight. Rick, leave off the "and vote for Obama" its just illogical to be a catholic. Hopeful, stop stealing our slogans first "change" now "hope" If you are so intelligent then be more creative. Now go out and vote until Indiana turns Blue!

Here we go again. Ch 16 putting out Obama statements again. Why didn't you ever report anything about McCain. I know why. So does everyone else.

I think Obama and his VP Sarah Palin will make a great team... Oh wait, that is not his VP but many of Obama supporters didn't even know the difference. Just goes to show you they are voting for him because of 2 things, he is black or he is a democrat. Seems like anyone who wants a handout will vote Obama, which sadly at this point in history, over 60% of the US is getting a handout while the other 40% actually work for a living.

And look at that slacked jaw troglodyte typical SJ County dem lever pulling moron he's posing with. And we wonder why the city and county are so messed up . . .

What to know how many dumb Americans their are? Look at all the people voting and supporting Obama! Wow scary isnt it!!

Rudy is an A hole and who really care if the actor that played him is in town. I think that was his worst movie EVER. Is this really news? Why not talk about the 9 shootings in a week, or maybe the fact that South bend is Dying. Lets talk about the fact that the Mayor still wants to cut police and firefighter jobs. HMMM.... I want to do the drugs the Mayor is doing, cuz maybe then I can see the city the way he does. Safe City my BUTT!!! I was asked for money 3 times in the half block walk to my car, then was told that if I didnt give a CRACKHEAD money he would stab me. Way to go Mayor, but hey its a "Safe city".

Kinda seems appropriate since Obama is Hollywood's "precioussssss".

Posted by: Jim Location: SB on Nov 3, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Enough with the Rudy thing. For Petes sake he was Frodo in Lord Of The Rings. They made 3 of those movies. I liked all the movies. But to keep calling him Rudy is just dumb. I can garuntee he has recieved more attention and fame from LOR than Rudy. The only people that even remember Rudy are people from this area and ND fans.

I think you should have read the above article to see how to spell Obama!

what do hobbits know about politics lol

Posted by: hopeful Location: granger on Nov 3, 2008 at 08:52 PM
I pray that he won't. If you are truly educated about this election, you will vote for what is best for the country.

Posted by: Heather Location: St Joesph MI on Nov 3, 2008 at 08:42 PM
I met Sean when he was filming Rudy. He's a smart man. I'm proud he's voting Obama !!!

Posted by: ? Location: SB on Nov 3, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Brian, what does that even mean?

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 3, 2008 at 08:25 PM
isn't that guy a fantasy actor...fitting.

Posted by: DB Location: Nappanee on Nov 3, 2008 at 07:57 PM
Who cares what this guy has to say - seriously he has about as much common sense as obama and the obama kool-aid drinkers.

Posted by: rick copen Location: granger on Nov 3, 2008 at 07:50 PM
Its illogical to be Catholic and vote for Obama. To vote for Obama is like challenging God to wrestle. The Cathoic church teaches that to vote for a politician that supports abortion is like participating in abortion. (paraphrased) All other issues are insignificant compared to that single issue. Hitler never gave it a thought that murdering jews was wrong. His supporters didn't either.

i think abama will win a long shot
