Ladysmith Soldier Killed in Afghanistan Laid to Rest

A Ladysmith soldier who was killed last month in Afghanistan was laid to rest Monday (July 3, 2006) morning.

Twenty-eight-year-old Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert died June 21 while on a reconnaissance mission.

The funeral was held at Ladysmith High School, where Lybert wrestled and played football before he graduated in 1996.

Lybert served in Iraq and had re-enlisted for another five years. He was the second soldier from Ladysmith High School to die in the last two months.

In May, Army Sergeant Nathan Vacho was killed by an explosive device in Iraq.
