It would be the largest economic stimulus package Congress has yet to consider. Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, is behind the plan.

House democrats are talking about infusing up to $300 billion into the American economy.

"I don't think there's any way we can really get a handle on it. It's a little bit like talking about how far is it from here to the sun. It's simply, the numbers are getting so big, they have no reality, and that's dangerous," shares Patricia Frazier from Michiana. "My question is, we talk about $50 billion here, a $100 billion here, where does that money come from? It doesn't seem to be real money. It seems to be a promissory note for my grandchildren."

"Clearly the economy needs to be stimulated. I'm concerned that the last stimulus package seemed to have little effect," says Kent Hull, also from Michiana. "I think we need a much greater and more coordinated effort to basically deal with the housing crisis which is the fundamental problem that we are faced with right now. Until we can stop these foreclosures, we're not going to be doing anything to solve the problem."

The plan includes some money for roads and bridges. Food stamps and unemployment benefits would also receive some funding. And most Americans would get a tax rebate check like they did in February.

"My sense is we tried the first one already, and it didn't help very much," Nelson Mark, an economist at Notre Dame. "What we saw was there wasn't a big sustained effect on consumer spending. In fact, what a lot of people did with their tax rebate was that they saved it. If you're saving it, it's not going to go into the economy."

"We would put it back into the economy and it would end up helping everyone in the end if it was to come to us," says Heidi McCullough, a local resident, who supports the rebate checks.

The White House said Tuesday President Bush will not consider a second stimulus package, but is open to good ideas.

Lawmakers return to Washington November 17th.

I am kinda of confused on how the stimulus check is working this year. Are seniors the only ones receiving a check or are the lower class families going to receive them as well? Please let me know what is going on I really would appreciate it.

That would be so great right now if we could get more help, we certainly do need it.

So should i be expecting a check in the mail soon.

Posted by: HB Location: Ohio on Apr 16, 2009 at 10:27 AM
See they are not helping us. They are just trying to make us think they are helping us. They are idiots. My husbands work didnt even make the change on his check. They are going to leave it the way it was so no one gets screwed at the end of this year and owes money.

Posted by: Jason Location: Virginia on Apr 13, 2009 at 11:50 AM
I have seen a $30 increase on my check this past week. The only thing that bothers me is that my federal withholdings went from $39 a check to $9 a check. So at the next year when I do my taxes my federal withholdings will only be $200 instead of the over $1000 that it normally is. I claim two kids so I always get it all back. So pretty much the government is giving me and advance throught this year and taking it from me next year. My tax advisor said I could adjust it so that I could get it back at the end of the year but that means theres really no extra money there.

I have read many of the stories here about how many people are struggling. The problem here is that the politicians don't read these comments. They don't have time because they are so busy deciding how to spend our money and then tax it. If you really want to make an impression on how things go, send e-mails with your story to your congressman, in fact, send your story to all of the congressmen and to the president. This will make more of a difference than complaining on a comments page.

Well it looks like not everyone is getting that tax cut on there checks. It was supposed to take affect last week. Everyone I know has not seen that. So who gets it? And also all that money they are giving to loan companys is making it worse. We went to trade our car in and we have never been late on a payment and we have traded our car before. The man told us that they made it next to impossible to get a loan even if you have perfect credit. So how can you stimulate the economy if no one can buy a car or home or anything at that. People in my area are hurting. The main factory we have is a supplier for honda and they have laid off tons and are getting ready to lay off almost 200 more and go down to working 3 days a week. They are going to lower pay wages and that is the lowest paying factory there is and drop insurance. Obama is making things way worse. What is wrong with him. Help the people who will really stimulate the economy. Way to let the loan companys take advantege of you B.O.

I have been saying it from the begining that the only way to stilmulate the economy is to put it in the hands of the comsumer, but it has to be a real amount, because the $12.00 we get in our paychecks is doing NOTHING. No one will go out and buy a car or a house or do any home improvements on that. We have to have something that is going to make a difference. And the bottom line is - it is our money, give it back to us so that we can make the difference. Putting the money into already bankrupted comanies that is just throwing it is away. Please we have just wasted too much already, the entire country is running scared and is starting to hort all their money which is making matters worse. Give us some breathing room!!!!!

Paying off our loans would be a better stimulus package.......

So has anyone seen this so called $13 dollar increase yet on there check we are supposed to be getting in early spring? when will that take affect. Wow the ecomomy will flurish when people get that increase. Is Obama the biggest moron ever. How can he get the economy going when all he is doing is giving money to these corporates that cant handle there businesses. And is making so called jobs for us and most of them are goverment jobs. We are the only ones that can get the economy back. We need the jobs and goverment needs to downsize to save some tax money. Even unemployement is ripping us off. They are supposed to help for 52 weeks. Only 6 months with me and I have worked full time at the same place for 6 years. There is no jobs in my area or any where near the area. Thank god my husband is in the Aero space work because we would be screwed like everyone else in this area. But he has to drive over a hour to get there. Obama help the people not the greedy corporates.

I guess I'm one of the people that are in the group of people that haven't worked outside of the home for a number of years and had our own paychecks,I'm not old enough yet to draw Social Security and the last few years has been told that I don't even qualify for disability because I haven't worked for the past seven years to have enough credits to qualify. But what about all those years I did work, don't they count for something? (There are so many people US that are drawing either SS or SSD and have never worked a job to earn a paycheck.) My question is, are we the only ones that won't receive a stimulas check of any kind??? One that is falling thru the cracks. I need financial help too, so that I can hope-fully find a way to move on and get on with my life without the person that I have to rely on for a place to live. 24 miserable and empty years of being married to someone who is not who or what I thought he was. He is the most SELFISH person I know.

Posted by: Heather Location: Ohio on Mar 13, 2009 at 10:46 AM
The big change in your check? You mean the whole $15. Wow that will save the economy. Right whatever. What will $15 do for people who cant find a job? NOTHING. What bills will that $15 pay. Not much. Wont feed your kids or pay for a place to live if you cant find a place to work or one that pays as well as the one that just screwed you and laid you off. And not everyone gets $15 its up to $15. And in 2010 it drops to like only $7 instead of the $15. So it dont last. The town I live in its next to impossible to find a job even in other cities around it. And even if you have a college degree you wont have any luck. So they need to do something that really will help the economy. And the only thing with today is the unemployement may be at 8% but in some areas the unemployment is running out. Like where they where giving IOUs in california. What does that do? And where I live in ohio our unemployement is getting ready to run out. I feel for the families where both providers get laid off.

It's absolutely egrious that the actions which big banks/companies put this country in is considered only "immoral" by the administration and not CRIMINAL. Taking bailout money (which only rewarded bad behavior)and putting it into their own pockets, paying out bonuses while continuing to dine off taxpayers IS stealing! The average middle class taxpayer would go to jail for that. When I saw the tolerance for this kind of behavior, I gave up hope for any change. The matters for big business will never be transparent!

WAKE UP people! We are NOT getting another stimulus check-we are getting it each week in our paychecks. The government is reducing the amount of federal taxes pulled out of our checks in place of it. I noticed a nice change in mine last week (that's when it started)!

There won't be civil unrest and here is why. The current national unemployment rate is around 8 or 9% (higher in places like Elkhart, lower in other places, and so on...). The unemployment rate during the Great Depression reached a whopping 25%. There was no revolution. Why? Because there were still 75% who were NOT effected. It's majority rule. 75% still had a good thing going. They weren't going to vote for someone who was going to change things on some fundamental level and undermine their good thing, now were they. Instead, they did their best to look busy, spear headed initiatives, etc. and waited for 6 long years for the economy to do what it was naturally going to do anyway, which is fluctuate and reverse direction. If we have another depression, we know that the winners are willing to wait a long time for the same old same old system to right itself - they'll wait up and until the day they feel hunger pangs in their own bellies, and that will never happen.

Wake Up America! Especially those of us at middle class and lower. The government and those with money to blow do not give a rats A** about anything but lining their pockets. Its all about those with money. These Aholes alone could turn this country around. The only time any of these people help anyone out is if it helps to push them higher up on the ladder. The government and the rich have done nothing but screw those below them. The sad thing is..those of us who struggle daily just to feed and shelter our families, we are the grunts and the backbone of this country. You want to turn this country around, heres some tips for you. Pull our a**es out of these wars. Make the rich and powerful pay all the taxes they owe and stop supporting BS in other countries and put the money here where it really will help their fellow americans. Bring companies back to the states or make them pay employees who lost their jobs to going overseas businesses. m4...you are correct...Chaos is coming.

And even if they bring our jobs back, There is a lot of people that will still need bail out money to get there bills caught up. I know in my area tons of people where laid off and no jobs to get not even small jobs. Even if you get a job it will be real hard for some to get bills caught up. And some places are running out of unemployement. This is screwing up people lives bad. Even people with college behind there belt are losing there jobs. And if they give us the bail out money it wont be so bad for us to pay it back then. At least it was given all to the people who need it and we can afford to then because we will get our own selves caught up. How does the goverment think that if you give big business the money they can get back on track. If the people owe the money then they haft to pay it back. If business are coming back for more money then a red flag should go up. (GM)

Posted by: Heather Location: Ohio on Mar 1, 2009 at 10:28 PM
I agree with giving us the money. And you know what if we buy cars and tvs we will get the economy caught up. I lost my job through Honda because of GM and Chrysler. So buy the cars get a lot of jobs back. Give us the money and we will get our own houses and bills caught up. And a lot of people can afford there houses until they lose there job. And the middle class needs the help the most. These big business are screwing us bad. They wont get no business no matter how much they get because we wont do business with them if they are causing us not to be able to survive. Again send us the bail out money since its going to come out of our living money!

Posted by: dayle Location: tennessee on Mar 1, 2009 at 07:05 PM
we hear all the talk about economic bailouts. the fact is that we would not need any bailouts if the government (who is supose to be looking out for our best intrest) would bring all the jobs back to this country that have gone overseas. I live in a small town in west tennessee. at one time not so long ago we were a productive town with plenty of jobs. within the last 4 years we have lost all but 4 of our factories. and the factories that are left have a freeze on hiring. there are no jobs within a reasonable distace of our town. all the factories that left packed up and went to mexico. tell me how the government is going to counter this growing trend.

Posted by: Julie on Mar 1, 2009 at 05:24 PM
It's no wonder there's so many stupid people out there being ripped off by scams about stimulus checks... at least in our area we can say that WNDU is partially to blame for continuing to have this story with the ridiculous (UNTRUE) headline about "seeing another stimulus check in the mail". IT'S AN OLD STORY PEOPLE = NO CHECK, NO CHECK, NO CHECK!!!!!!!

Posted by: m4 on Feb 27, 2009 at 07:53 PM
you arent getting anything damien. typical obongo voted. gimme 10 thousand dollars so i can buy a car and tvs. hahaha

Posted by: Brie Location: Richmond on Feb 27, 2009 at 11:07 AM
I agree with many of the comments posted. The government is suppose to be for the people NOT the big businesses. We are a country that is bleeding economically how is give these companies helping people that are struggling right now! I really believe each family married or not deserve to have equal pay. There are over a million single parent homes in the U.S that works very hard to provide for his or her child(ren) fair is fair. 300, 400, or even 500 dollars is not enough to bring this economy out of the slump that its in. 20,000 thousand dollars per house hold is fair. This will help people to get current on bills that have been neglected,ie, mortgage, student loans, car notes, food , electric, water and gas bills. This will also allow those families that have already lost their home to get a fresh new start.

Posted by: chris Location: In on Feb 26, 2009 at 10:45 AM
if they wont of bail someone out why not the people. Give all the tax payer the money not the banks and car comp. and we will pay off our houses and cars and bills. let the tax payer do what thy need to do not the banks or big comp. If it is our money then let us have it all of it.

Posted by: Tony Location: Elkhart on Feb 26, 2009 at 09:00 AM
I think that to stimulate the economy, the money should be given to the people(after all, it is our money). The people will spend the money which would ultimately stimulate business growth, which would ultimately create jobs for the people. They have it backwards. You can,t give it to businesses and hope that it "trickles" down. You have to give it to the people and let it trickle up. Businesses have no use for consumers if you give them like 300 billion dollars. Believe me, if you give the people money, they will spend it.

Elitism- It's an American tradition! The only people to blame are the ones that were living outside of their means. Unfortunately, Those are also the only people being helped by this stimulus package. I bought a house I could afford and I pay for it, on time , every month. Where is my $8,000 tax credit? I am all for a stimulus plan to help this country out of the woes we are in, I just feel that we are giving the money to the wrong people.

Posted by: Damien Location: Sacramento, ca. on Feb 25, 2009 at 07:58 PM
The stimulus checks should be 5000 a single person and 10,000 for married family. The people will catchup on bills and pay off their credit cards of course but at the same time they can boost the economy by shopping (buying cars,tv's and such). Thats why this stimulus check has got to be pretty thick cause if its not big enough it wont stimulate and jump start the economy we'll be basically right where we left off. It sounds crazy us americans receiving a big check like that but you all are familiar with that saying "you got to spend money to make money", and thats really what we need to do. Its a plan that can work if done properly which means make these checks 5000 and 10,000. Thats the easiest way to stimulate the economy. Its not crazy, its helpful to us middle class americans.

Posted by: Amber Location: MI on Feb 25, 2009 at 01:02 PM
TO Heather in OHIO - I said here in MICHIGAN, where the state tax laws are different than in OHIO, we pay State taxes on federal rebate money. We pay it on our previous year's federal tax return, when we got that little $300 rebate last time - the STATE of MICHIGAN counted it as income and taxed us on it...so if you are in OHIO, please dont say those of us in MICHIGAN dont know what we are talking about and "just like to complain".

My comment is that the middle working class taxpayers will in the near future have to pay for the bailout of these big corporations and companies. They live in their extravagant homes, their children get better schooling opportunities, but we the middle class struggle to just make ends meet with trying to decide if we should pay a bill or put food on the table. The middle class has to tell their children we don't have money for college and can't get a loan. The stimulus checks that were sent out before didn't help because middle class taxpayers were trying to pay bills from the high cost of everything, not to mention that the check amounts were ridiculously low for even considering stimulating the economy. I don't understand why the government is so quick to give to the big Ceo's of these corporations but the American middle class are give the short end of the stick. The government it seems is design to keep the hard working middle class down. Stimulus checks this time should be $2000.

Hey how about that Huge $13 extra dollars you get a week on your checks starting in June. Then in 2010 only 7.50. Is he nuts. Or really that dumb. We get to pay all that money back which means even worse for all of us. Again we should have all got both stimulus packages only to us. The people would have got there own selves caught up and would have bought cars and houses. We would have paid our bills off. That means we will shop more. Even if our taxes would have gone up a little bit we would have had more money. Now our taxes will go up but we will not have more money. But the goverment will have more jobs. And we will not have more jobs unless we give them the reason to give the jobs back. What jobs can you give us if everyone is tight with there money or broke. Even if I got my job back I will never spend as much as I did before. People that lost there jobs it will take them a long time to get there lives caught back up.

Posted by: Heather Location: Ohio on Feb 23, 2009 at 11:02 PM
The stimulas check does not effect your taxes. I never get anything back. This year I did turbotax as I usally do. We made the same amount as we did last year. Turbo tax asks for your stimulas first. Then your tax info. I actually got 1000 dollars more than last year and we never get more than about $400. We didnt change claims or nothing. It also didnt effect my inlaws or any of my family. I dont know where people get it affected there taxes. I added my income together and the $1800 we got was not included in that income. I also looked at my moms and dads and sisters and inlaws and again the stimulus was noted but not added as income. People just like to complain. And if obama wants to help he needs to send us the money and no one else. And how is he helping us when he is giving the money to all his sponsers and to produce goverment jobs. All of the money should come to us. Apperently he lied and is not here to help. A lot of people lost there jobs in my town. No more jobs to get!Help

I wish the nearly trillion dollar stimulus bill would be given out in a check! That would be $3000 per person ($12000 for a family of four!). If you save it, it would give a good stimulus to the banks. If you buy a new car, it would help the auto industry. Even if you burried it in the back yard, you'd have to buy a shovel.... better than wasting it in washington.

would be abolished. this would mean laying off a few hundred thousand government employees who do little to nothing anyway..they would be forced to get real jobs and could replace the jobs of the illegal immigrants that we deported...and immediatly start paying off the 10 trillion dollar debt....there you go everyone....i will be running for president in the next election if we still have a functioning government...please vote for me....i have a plan to fix pretty much everything else too...the only problem is that im only 23 years old which makes me ineligible to run for president. but then again president hussein wasnt born in the united states but hes president. not to mention that i have completely given up on the political process in this country.. i think its time to resort to more drastic measures :)

Posted by: m4 on Feb 19, 2009 at 09:30 PM
for those of you that didnt see it, this is my plan to fix the economy. heres how to fix the economy..first eliminate all HB1 and all other guest worker visas, cancel those already issued, next round up all the mexicans and send them packing..these 2 things alone will do more for the economy than any ridiculous stimulus scheme. next place large tariffs on all foriegn goods imported..free trade means white americans lose jobs to third world countries. next you reregulate the financial system..try convict and execute those who orchestrated the sub prime loans mortage meltdown. make an example of some to incite others to do whats right. require accounting of every nickel of us government bailout loans. any evidence of financial fraud, try, convict, execute those responsible. the prisons would need to be cleared of the worst of the vermen..most would need to be executed. next cut taxes and then cut the federal government to about 1/4 its size. entire government agencies...

to ANON on Feb 17,@2:54AM - Again, i know i posted this waaaaay back, each state is different. Here in Michigan, we pay STATE tax on Federal return $$. SOOOO, YES, HERE IN MICHIGAN WE WILL PAY TAXES ON ANY REBATE WE GET FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Posted by: Jim Location: Bourbon on Feb 18, 2009 at 03:48 PM
Exactly hello this was last year and listen to what is in the stimulus package and do you hear you will get another check and if you did what would $600.00 dollars do for the economy well I say just what this package will do nothing. Hey but you can take a nice train to disney land. Most fitting. I think we should call it the circus train.

Chris, you are an idiot. "A loan from uncle sam" Did you pay it all pack? NOPE! You just had to pay taxes on it. Where I come from, that is not a loan. Dummy. Stay in elkhart.

Does anyone realise this story was from last year?

Posted by: chris Location: elkhart on Feb 17, 2009 at 10:46 AM
i got 600 last year and it came out of my return,so it was just a loan for uncle sam is all it was, the government are legal scammers period.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 17, 2009 at 02:54 AM
You have to claim how much your stimulus check was for to make sure that you didn't get shorted. YOU ARE NOT PAYING TAXES ON THAT MONEY. If you got $600 but according to your tax return this year you should have gotten $900 then you will see an extra $300 added to your income tax return amount. A lot of people are saying that you have to pay taxes on that when in reality you do not and will not.

Posted by: David Location: Southern California on Feb 17, 2009 at 12:39 AM
I think the stimulus plan is very short term and the only thing it will do is start from square one next year, I wasnt upset but it was kind of funny when I received a stimulus check last year just to see that check come out of my taxes this year, dont be fooled you arent getting "hooked up" this is a temporary get out of the hole idea which is just going to be exactly the way you spent it temporary, my suggestion which I know is frowned upon, put it in your savings account use it only in an emergency because you are paying it back next year. I am sure some people will say my ideas are not going to help the economy which I do agree with, but next year your going to pay for it anyways, especially if your unfortunate and owe taxes at the end of the year. By the way our government should focus on the housing market with this money! A home is a long term asset not a PS3 or Xbox for your kids! Sincerely, THE TRUTH

Posted by: Helloo Location: South Bend on Feb 16, 2009 at 05:41 AM
No one-time deal check, it will be going in the form of lower taxes on your paycheck over the next year to 18 months. So if you were bringing home $400 a week, now you'll bring home $420 a week yippee!

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 15, 2009 at 11:17 PM
To everyone that is calling themselves poor, and saying they need handouts.. How was it you bought your computer? Who is paying for your internet service?? Maybe you need to work harder, and spend more wisely.. Just a thought :)

Posted by: Mike on Feb 15, 2009 at 04:21 PM
You pay tax on it like income... meaning if your check is for $1000, you would pay your income tax rate on it... so like 30%. $700 would still be good!

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 15, 2009 at 04:19 PM

When george bush issued a stimulus package obama criticized the plan. What does obama do, issues a a stimulus that is more costly than the previous. What coward. One other thing that seems to bother me is the fact that we are paying tax dollars to help with the cost of abortions. I think our founding fathers would be very disgusted with our efforts to make america a great nation.

Posted by: POOPOO2005 Location: TN on Feb 14, 2009 at 12:26 PM
I think their should be a second one issued. Because you do realize how hard it is out here for middle class people. And TN has the lows paying jobs out here . And they are laying off cutting us from 12 hours shifts to 8 hours shifts and making us take hour lunchs . I am struggling please help me .

Posted by: B. on Feb 13, 2009 at 03:11 PM
Another check would be nice, but they expect folks to spend it by buying things. Most have bills piling up from not working and will spend the check to pay the bills. Personally I think the rich should be encouraged to buy things that would stimulate the economy. They are the ones that have the money to do so. Maybe the government should of included money to buy items and then resell them or donate them to charity. I am on disability and don't see how any of the ideas will help me personally (the one plan to raise SSI for awhile would of helped a lot) but I do have friends and family who could benifit and hope this plan works out for those out of work and those struggling to get by.

How can getting more money from the stimulus package be put back into the economy when so many americans have to feed their families with it since they have no job. Get them jobs. Get them back into a home and the problems would go away. A Bandaid isn't going to help heal the deep wound that's been created. We need major surgery now.

I support another check. I put mine to good use and I feel like as long as it is being used for the economy why not!! So OBAMA send some money to the working americans so they can stay afloat.

The problem is that all of these corporations shipped thier companys over seas to asia, china and mexico to cut back on labor costs to make goods. This isnt anything new, everyone knew it was going to heppan!!! Our goverment put us in this postion by looking out for thier own special interests and ignored this problem. I dont believe Obama is going to make a differnce i think that WE have to make a differnce this isnt going to be a quick fix a stimulas check isnt going to save you!!! Get up and find a job!!! Another issue is that over the last 10 to 15 years we have been living off our credit and not off the money we actually have getting houses cars we cant afford living beyond our means!!! And the banks are hurting because of this!!! Its going to be a sad day when the peso is worth more then the penny!!! Obama said over is campaign over and over again YES WE CAN!!! That means that we can not him we the american people can!!! Cut back deside what you need and what you dont need!!!

Posted by: Heather Location: Ohio on Feb 4, 2009 at 12:42 AM
The last stimulas package did not effect my taxes at all. You claim it to make sure that you was not shorted. Tons of americans did not claim or did not get what they was supposed to. The house needs to send all of us the money instead of these banks and car companies. If we have the money we will get our own self out of debt and get everything rolling again. 100,000 to 200,000 will allow us to get bills caught up. That will help the banks get caught up more houses will be bought. Also alomost everyone will buy a car which will get alot of jobs back including mine. And almost everyone will trade there car in about every 3 years. And if you are caught up on your bills the more people will shop. That is the only thing that will get us back on track. Anyone that thinks you can just make new jobs when the goverment is already causing us to lose all of them is crazy. We need our jobs back but first we need a good size check our families can survive and we dont loose our homes.

I lost my job three weeks ago due to the recession. I had that great paying job for 8-1/2 years and before that another great paying job for 11 years. In nearly 20 years I have paid off my home, helped family, paid for 5 or 6 vehicles, put two kids through college, and basically paid an ex-wife to go away. That being the best many spent in the last 20 years. I also have managed to save nearly $350,000.00 while I look for a new job. I did this without the benefit of a college education. How? I learned how to play the stock market while I was in high school. Read seveal books and try it for yourselves. Start small and be willing to be disapointed at first till you get sharper and you will get there. Learn when to get out and set in something safe until the market improves, etc. If this is not what you would like to do, then don't. Do something else because nobody owes you anything, but you owe it to yourself to try.

After reading some of these comments, I truly think alot of people need to go back to school and pay better attention in English class and on Spelling assignments. It's really sad at the number of adults who can't spell or use correct grammar. As far as another stimulus package, I don't think that will do any good. They need to put that money into things that will create jobs for people.

If we think about it, giving cash to the nation won't help the economic. The government need to create new jobs with that billion dollards simulus check. we all need to have a job and be financially stable. sending a check to people is not the best option. if the unemployed people get a job and those whose house going for foreclosure get a fix loan once they get a job, that will help a lot more. People need to stop being greedy and afford what they can. a lot of people went ant get a big house they can't even afford not to mention that they dont even get a fix rate loan. Who paid the consequences? we all did! All we need is JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Stop waiting on free money! It's nice to have free money but somtimes it's just not the right time.

I think that with the fuel prices the way they were back when the first stimulus checks came out , people saved that money to help pay for their bills like: Gasoline, Heating oil, natural gas bills, light bills, ETC.that means they very well could not spend it on anything else !! Maybe if the stimulus checks were bigger and the prices of our fuels and supplies werent so hi maybe people would spend it at the stores, go shopping !! moreover if the auto makers like GM. would build cars that people actually want like Ford did sales would go up !!! But for this round of the stimulus package people just might be in fear and not spend it !! basically keeping it for a " Rainy day" if we could get money to spend and help the AMERICAN WORKING MAN AND WOMEN !!! keep there jobs and make any taxes go up for anyone or anybody then its a good thing !! what the gov. should do is drop taxes and bring back industry back to the UNITED STATES !!! we are and should be proud to by AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS !!

The unemployeement comp. needs to be longer because there are no jobs. Very good peoples wanting to do ugly things. More food stamps because people are going to starve. The crime rate is going to go up. People are losing hope and the faith. There are so many young kids donot feel the need to continue their education. They said why should I go to school there are no jobs. but the drugs are still around and they think that is the way to make money! We need GOD! The world is at its test. We all need to help one another. There are large hotel that throw good food out and people are starving. People should give clothes that they wear to people who needs them. Give, give what you don't need. That can help the world. Start up car pooling and baby setting some young people had to stop schooling is because there was no money to pay for a setter. We all need to help at. This world is going to fold if we all donot come togather and help one another. We are far to advance to have ever let this hapn.

you are being bribed with your own money. then you will be taxed then again upon this money that you have already paid taxes on in the first place. A fool parts ways with his own money and seeks it back with an interest tacked upon it. We are fools for this type of spending.

"could see another stimulas check"? Are you kidding me? This was a campaign promise made by "THE ONE". This should already be a done fact and ready to mail out. By the way, why did Obama say the stimulas package that Bush pushed out the door was a bad idea and would not stimulate the economy. The left pushed that message through the media and most bought into the thought while they cashed their checks. Yet that was a fundimental notion that got him elected. I WANT MY CHECK!

I think that we should get a bigger stimulus check , I think if we had a bigger amount the american people would not hold on to it as much, I think that everyone would spend it and it would boost the economy up. I think that all this Money if it had been spent on the American people we could have paid bills off and then EVERYONE would be able to spend more money, right now we are trying to make ends meet and alot of Americans can not do that .

We need the help. It's not easy paying the bills. Older people who are on social security what help do they get. If you do the tax break it won't help them. We are always leaving someone out. We need help bad. You never know if you are going to have a job tomorrow it is pretty scary out there. Alot of people racked and scraped for Christmas. Lets have a better year and get the help we need. Stop bailing out these business when we are going down and nobody helps us pay our bills or bails us out. Everyone could use the help to pay off bills or just buy a new pair of shoes. Lets think really hard about this we all need help not just the business again think of the elderly people. Big shots always get what they want it's the little people who go without. Ask some of us what we want.

I'd love to see a stimulus check. As I watched the swearing in of Obama I had to wonder why every new Pres. needs new furiture, a china pattern, new paint and curtains.People are starving , losing jobs and homes and the new Pres. and his family can't use whats already there? Why can't there be ONE china pattern for the White House that all use. Wake up capitol hill and quit spending our hard earned dollar on all this meaningless stuff. Shame on our Presidents for allowing this to go on when the rest of the country suffers. I'm tired, mad and feed up with the way our goverment is handling our funds. Obama proved to me already that things won't change. The spending just keeps going and we the people keep on suffering for it.

If they would give each taxpayer an amount that would matter, it would stimulate the economy overnight. Imagine what you would do if you received $50,000? Do you realize how many people would buy a new car? Put their child through college? Go on a vacation and spend more money on tourism? Update and remodel their homes? Buy a new house? They need to help out the citizens of this country instead of giving it to the big corporations that are responsible for this to begin with.

Do you really think Obama is going to give it to us? I hardly doubt it. These CEO's are still flying corperate planes and have mulitmillion dollar country clubs. But lets give them more. While many of us, are trying to figure out how to pay our next house payment and heat. Have any of you seen the limo Obama had built for the inaugeration? It had to cost a fortune, who paid for that? We all did! And YOU REALLY think he is going to change things? hardly! the economic stimulus didn't help the economy out because it wasn't enough to help out...if we help out these billion dollars companies why can't we help out each hold house, most of us are living pay to pay check, so when you get the stimulus check it's spent on a bill. But if you treated each houselhold like you did the business (since it's our money anyway) the economy just might start an up swing

The government should just allow people to print their own money instead of the goverment printing it. That way at least the Gov. could avoid the printing and mailing costs. This is eventually going to run it's course, and we will be dealing with the nastiest case of inflation we have seen since the 1950's.

lawl. Get rid of debt? Sure! Why not pay off all my student loans while they're at it? Why not pay off the peoples' debt who purposely DIDN'T pay it to begin with? Let's all get a fistful of credit cards and max them out so when our debt is 'wiped out', we're effectively stealing.

Posted by: David Location: Indiana on Dec 28, 2008 at 10:36 AM
In my opinion, the ones is getting the bailout money is the companies that the CEOs is making 32 million dollars a year, the ones that needs bailout is the taxpayers that is making under 60000 a year, (I dont even come close to that it is 33000, and I am stuggling with that) Greed has took over America. If the government doesnt see what is going on, then they must be getting KICKS BACKS from these CEOs

Posted by: hopeful Location: anywhere on Dec 27, 2008 at 04:44 PM
How about they just wipe out everyones debt,(those who make $100,000 or less a year)instead of bailing all these companies out and let the people start fresh. If they have no debt to pay they will spend more to boost the economy. People are having a hard time just feeding their families let alone worring about trying to boost the econnomy. Do something right for once government people.

Don't hold your breath. It only goes to the banks and auto who did such a good job at losing their money. The people will get nothing and we are the ones who worked hard to pay our bills and keep our houses. The rich will keep getting richer and the poor and middle class poorer. This is how our great government works. Merry Christmas to us all!!!

The stimulus money that I received went to living expenses. People were told, not to pay bills, go buy something, I bought my sons new shoes, my daughter a new dress, and my wife a shirt. With the rest I bought another month of a place to stay, and another month of power.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 20, 2008 at 03:17 PM
Well since not to many people have jobs anymore they should put the money into unemployment and food stamps and quit snubbin people away. Just because a person dont have an army of kids don't mean they should go hungry. Old people and single people need to eat to. I think old people should get food stamps with their social security every month. We need reform. We need to help people in need not just people who lay on their backs so much they can't work. Making babies is not a job and these young girls need to realize that!!!!

The check will not fix anything. You shoudl not get a check if you didn't already pay into the system. This hsould be in the form of a tax cut for everyone. This is economics 101. The tax system should be flat for everyone not progressive like it is. If you wanted to be fair, it would be degressive and the poor would pay a higher rate as they use the same roads, etc. There should not be a second stimulus check, just a tax rate cut. That will encourage those who are actually working. The economy has changed for some time, I do not feel bad for those in the RV, Manufacturing, and Auto. The signs have been there for over 10 years that this was going to happen. Bad economy is not the cause. Over paid workers and bad management are. They sure seem to work in mexico alot cheaper than here. That is where I would send the jobs instead of to the UAW, who stole from their OWN future by negotiating inflated wages instead of the $10 and hour, in which they could be replaced by.

Some people spend money like water. It's easy to spend when you have it. What happens when you dont have it? Hard, isn't it? What amount do they think they can give us American's that will actually help us? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the stimulus checks. It's hard to try NOT to save it, though. When the money is gone, then what? Back to square one... But then again, you can't save money you don't have. Have they cut spending on the war yet? GO OBAMA!!!

Posted by: Angela Location: Florida on Dec 16, 2008 at 08:22 PM
I think a stimulus check would be great for 2009. Everyone is suffering from this economy crash. I hope Obama really does approve the package so we can all get back to the way it was.

Are we getting another check. We really need it.

Posted by: Anon on Dec 15, 2008 at 11:41 PM
No -- No stimulus checks are being issued by the Federal Government. Do not expect another one in the mail. "Free" money does not stimulate the economy when it is readily transferred to debt collectors.

Posted by: Donna Location: PA on Dec 14, 2008 at 11:54 PM
Alot of people really need help right now and I think if they gave even a higher stimulus check then the last time, it definitely would help the economy. People can't spend money if they don't have it!

If we bail out the car companies....we should all get a car. At least those 50% that actually pay taxes...

SO, MY QUESTION STILL REMAINS, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF FOR SURE THAT WE ARE GOING TO RECIEVE A SECOND STIMULUS CHECK

Posted by: jessica Location: dallas on Dec 13, 2008 at 06:00 PM
hey. HAS everyone been asking, when the next stimlus check will come. as this world comes to an end and eventually it will be very hard for some people to manage alot, i personally think it will help alot out in the long run, i however am having a child and most of everyone esle in the world will be needing the help, as someone is knows god and his ways, this world is gonna get alot tougher, so save money on the side just in case something happens....

I have sat here and read all these comments and still do not knw if the stimulus check is coming or not. The one thing I have learned is that we the people are very criticle of each other at a time when we should be supportive of each other!!! It is no one persons blame. It is the vicious circle of life and death. I have worked hard all my life I have siblings who have not. This may seem harsh but they choose to live the way they do.I do not condone there way but I cannot judge them for those who talk to soon may find themselve in the same boat to nowhere. The goverment owes us this there is no question to that but do we the people have to be so hard on each other this is what they want a country devided so we give them a reason not to sign the papers For those who do not need it GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND THANK GOD FOR THAT AND FOR THOSE WHO DO NEED IT GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEE AND PRAY FOR IT.

Posted by: Stop Foreclosure??? on Dec 9, 2008 at 09:23 AM
Tom, you obviously are not educated... Why should we stop all foreclosures? Those who took the loans took them, they were not forced to sign the loan documents. Last few loans that I took, I knew what I could afford. THIS IS NOT THE BANKS JOB. The loan officer works for the bank not the loan applicant. Keep that in mind next time you go for a loan. The subprime mess just goes to show how many uneducated morons we have in the US. I don't think there should be ANY regulation on how the banks loan money but the penalties shoudl but more severe. You should not be able to walk away. You should not be able to file for bankruptcy. My vote would be work camps... Those who are in foreclosure created their own problems. Be in they worked in the RV industry, auto, etc... That was just waiting to collapse for more than 10 years. FYI - The RV industry has nothing to do with high gas prices, but mismanaged companies.

lisa i agree 100% with you why give the money to the banks? what are they doin with it? it isnt helping us out. same with the auto makers why should we give them more money they are already charging 40k for a car that probly cost 5k to make. if they bail us out and pay our debt then the money helps everyone.

this is what we get when all the "educated" poeple try to fix something that was so simple As most of the cuurent economic turmoil was brought on by the Housing/Mortgage situation and subprime lending practices or "Educated Scams" talking poeple into buying something they cannot afford these are the poeple losing their houses The "Educated "fix watch the news as it unfolds. what should have been done.STOP ALL foreclosures period. Then weed out the legitimate foreclosures from the liberal loans let the legitimate foreclosures go forth and the others sit down with an arbitrator figure out what payments are fair and affordable. The homeowners stay in their houses and the Mortgage companies and banks while not getting the original profits maintain a positive cashflow and are not claiming total losses. As for the credit markets if someone hits hard times and misses a couple of payments the interest skyrockets as does the balance "education at work again" there has to be a better way

Posted by: Rhonda on Dec 6, 2008 at 07:51 AM
So many of the comments are true...Hows come "we the people.." can figure it out but they can't? Face it people, they don't live in the same reality as us. They don't understand what poor is, they don't know whats its like to have soup for dinner all the time, or cry over your heat possibly being turned off. IF they don't understand it how can they fix it? And Alan from Elkhart is right... We need to make products here so that means stop buying cheap crap from China and be proud to pay more for American made products and do your part to help out!!!!

Posted by: lisa Location: ny on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:11 PM
I'm in favor of the stimilus check. I feel instead of bailing out these banks and coorporations, they should have divided up the $700 billion to give to the tax payers. that way we could use it to pay our mortgages, credit card bills, car loans, ect... If that happened it would bail out the banks, car companies, and the economy in general. It's alot easier to get out of debt if you have the money to do it. Helping the banks and car companies is not helping us pay down our debt. so the banks will still be in debt for those loans that aren't being paid so they will be in the same situation if not worse in a year or two. more and more people are losing their jobs, that means more and more people not able to pay their bills.

My wife and I agree that the stimulus checks do help a great deal. The last one came at a crucial time and we used it. We thought the government would see that the American people got one before Christmas and you know people would have put that right back into the economy which would have helped a lot of businesses from going out of business. My wife and I cannot wait for Pres. Obama to get into office and get the American people out of the mess that has been created. Please keep in mind though that those stimulus checks are a great help especially for those of us who are on a fixed income. Thank you for listening.

I THINK THEY SHOULD LET PEOPLE START THEIR CREDIT OVER THAT WILL HELP OUT A LOT THAT WAY YOU WOULD HAVE LEARNED FROM THE PASS HOW TO MANAGE YOUR MONEY BETTER,PAY BILLS, SHELTER AND SUPPORT YOUR FAMILY ITS ENOUGH OUT THERE FOR EVERYBODY THAT WANT TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LIVE COMFORTABLE

we dont make anything in this second world nation. all i hear from the baby boomers is why dont people go and get a job and why people are foreclosing is because they wont go and get a job. where show us where you can get a job and dont say flipping burgers that insults me. even back in 98 it was a little ruff finding one in southern koskiusco county but know its like living in grant county back when the economy was booming and there was nothing down there but flipping burgers and it still took several months to get that crap job. the dollar is backed by thin air and they print it whenever they want. the dollar hasnt been backed by gold sice 1971. i wish i was a baby boomer cause i would have had it easy with rainbow pension and health care for life. that lifestyle is gone forever sadly. atleast know they are starting to feel the pinch and that is awesome cause then they can stop being the problem and start being part of the solution. they wont bite the hand that feeds them.

Posted by: Alan Location: Elkhart on Dec 1, 2008 at 03:17 PM
Lets see... $25,000.00 just ought to bout do it. That would pay off my son's college loan (whats left of it), the new furnace I had to buy, a couple credit cards, and then I could refinance my home with whats left and quit paying the mortgage insurance... which is bs anyway. Look around folks... if we don't start making products in this country again nothing will change. Nothing. We need to halt import items.

Student loans shouldn't cost so much--the kids get screwd and the Wall Street fat cats get fatter and fatter. I am sick of it. I say we all quit paying taxes!

Posted by: Thomas Jefferson on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:04 PM
And all because the average fella isn't smart enough to question the practice of buying things with money we don't have. They can tell lawyer jokes, they can talk loudly in bars about those politicians they don't like... but that's about it.

Posted by: Todd Location: Mishawaka on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:36 AM
Please don't send me a check. Pay off our national debt first. We don't even have the cash to cover it. We HAVE to stop borrowing from China. It puts us in a VERY bad situation. I can't believe they did it to begin with. It's like taking a loan from the mob. How stupid. Student loan rates are good right now...it's the lenders who are not lending the money that is the problem. They are not sticking to their word under the bail out.

Posted by: Voice of Reason on Nov 29, 2008 at 08:57 AM
If the govt wants to make a difference they need to use some common sense. 500.00 doesn't make a difference--but maybe 5000.00 would. Let's quit bailing out Wall Street-lets drop the rates on student loans to 1% so the kids can attend college, get good jobs, pay taxes and not have a debt loads that pull them under. Tell the big three to make only 4 cars each and they have to be energy efficient - CEO salries need to be cut way down and no freaking bonus packages until the entire loan is paid back to the tax payers. No private jets, no big name spokes people, no super bowl ads, no more nonsense.

The saddest thing of all is that we couldn't even rise against for fear of being a terrorist. Barley holding on to the right to bare arms, that they want to say only a militia should have acess to guns, which if we tried a militia, we would be called terrorists. Already trying to get us to freely turn in our guns. ( In Portland,Ore, they recently had a gun turn in, get 75 bucks for a working firearm, worth hundreds.) want to dissarm us, chip us, and make us more like slaves than we already are. And WE THE PEOPLE are letting this happen. What are we going to do? If we petition, or write letters to our senators, will they even care? Please if you are in a position to stand up for the citizens of the US of A. Do so before it is to late.

let alone any of the other nessecities of life.. and forget about ever having anything you want, because were already we allow the "Rich and Famous" to strut around and get paid mczillions, fluanting everything they have. Making enough money a year to support at least 40 families each. Ungratfull shmucks that they are. God has given them riches and do they share? I'd say no, except for the charity crap that they write off on there taxes. Next thing you know they are going to want us to get the v-chip implanted in everyone, so that they can keep tabs on us 24/7, violating our "civil rights" that we will find that we no longer posses.. Once again thanks to our government who will go to no ends to sell us out.

Posted by: andrea Location: ridgefield,wa on Nov 27, 2008 at 04:28 AM
one could only hope that our DEAR american government would help its own citizens... bah humbug i say. they have 7 billion (or some outragous amout) and they are going to give it to banks and the auto industry... i am out right appalled. what about bailing out the people that work like slaves? Forty plus hours a week, with no benifets. Heaven forbid we need a doctor, or be able to have a running car or insurance. The govenment has let it be that things are to expensive for the average joe to afford, yet we need these things. Our government doesn't care about us, it doesn't care that we are losing our jobs, or are in need. All it cares about is getting money to the banks so that it can loan money. (due to all of the forclosures.) Now if we acutally made wages the would support peolple to live, from single, to married, with or with out children. We wouldn't have to be worrying about forclosure or a drop in the economy. A pathetic minumum wage that wouldn't cover rent.

Posted by: andrea d Location: ridgefield,wa on Nov 27, 2008 at 04:21 AM
A second stimulus, would be good, but i fear they get our hopes up, many could use that money for food, or the holidays for there families. many with out food, job losses, and losses of there homes, yet the government cares more about bailing out banks, and auto industries. I for one won't be applying for any loans. especially now, that they have proved to me there goal is NOT to STIMULATE the economy, but to keep the RICH, RICH. And the poor starving, and overworked with no medical. crap for state assistance, if they even qualify you. No help for the needy, you have to have money to get help, and they won't even help us with that. trillions of dollars on war, while we starve. Billions to industries who could easily restructure, or file for bankruptcy. the claim it is to keep jobs, what about those who have already lost theirs?, where is the help for them? if you have made it this far i hope the truth of this frustrates you and rots in your stomach as bad as it does mine. GoodDay!

Yes, we should get a 2nd stimulus check. It should be enough to help pay off somethings instead of just 500.00. You give to banks for their debt. Give back to the people, we will then put that money back into the economy. It will go to stores and banks, but it will help us as well. Things will be paid off. The business' receive money and we, the people, have less bills. Most of us work hard for what we have and to lose it like we are is terrible. Help us to help you. We want our children to learn from what we do. MAKE THE BEST OF A BAD SITUATION!

this is why this country is in the shape it is....washingtons thinking throw money at every problem that will fix it......when they are done it might look good on paper but they will have such an artificial fix nobody will know how things really are, but then what the heck some more money thrown at it will fix it look at the housing market a few years back looked good then (on paper) but the true condition is now here

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 25, 2008 at 08:08 AM
thea, giving people this money to pay off debt to satisfy lending companies does nothing....this is a stimulus check the idea is give money and everyone is suppose to go out and spend it (new spending) this is why this idea is a very bad one, although its good for the politician, makes them look like they care whats going on but most of these payments go to paying off debts already ran up does nothing to "stimulate" the economy

Posted by: thea Location: ne on Nov 25, 2008 at 04:38 AM
Very valid points all the way around. It makes sense that the ones that are feeling it the most are the hard working middle/lower class, disabled and aged. I don't think the elite have had to worry too many times about food for their tables (why would they?), or how they are going to meet the utilities (gas, propane, electricity) or medical that are a necessity to live and provide a good home. Granted, the ones that don't want to work that can, I agree should not be carried by anyone. That seems to be their choice, but for the earlier mentioned, it is not. I wanted to say amen to the one who pointed out that the big guy should not continue to get bailed out. They should have given this to the ones that need the help to pay off the debt to satisfy the lending companies. It would have met both ends, and this in turn would have stimulated the economy as the major real debt would have been addressed and would have freed up more funds for the majority to begin again purchasing.

I totally think that hard working Americans should get the stimulus check to help financially. This is a little off the subject but it get's me when people who actually need the help CAN'T get it but those people who sit on their butt's all day and do nothing can get all the help they want and they take advantage of that. So giving money to help with food stamps and that sort is great, but shouldn't people who get the government help actually be trying to help theirselves and shouldnt they have to take a drug test to get the help...I have to take a drug test to work and help them with what they have. It just really buggs me that those of us who need the help can not get it and those that abuse the help could care less.

i think what the Government should do is NOT bail out mortgage companys and give every tax payer/home owners $250,000.00. 1)most people would pay off thier homes, cars and back bills and that would stimulate the economy and clear up peoples debts and have money in savings.. 2) the banks and mortgage companys going to have plenty of money and we wont have to bail them out... thats just what i think. delow from iowa

I believe that people really don't know what they need they say that they need more money but I tell you that I am a single mother of 3 and I work 40hours a week. You know what we need right now is lower food prices right now it is hard for everyone I do not make alot of money but you know what we are glad we have what we have and you know I have 3 boys and my boys know that we may not even have a Christmas but you will never see my children starving and they are happy for what they have so you tell me why we need to get another stimulis check because you know that people are not going to spend more they are going to pay bills and you know that is not going to help anyone in the long run, maybe they can pay there bills one more time but they will be in they same situation next month. Start cutting back on things that are not going to hurt. I would rather shut of my internet then have my lights shut off people really need to prioritize we do not need everything.

Now keep talking about the poor people that need help..And GOD BLESS YOU THAT'S IN NEED BECAUSE BELEIVE THAT YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES. Just like i said once and i will say again I work hard for what i have and i am thanking GOD that i have able and stable body to get up to go to a job. I think that we should of had the 2nd stimulus check sent out already because more than likely everyone would use it to purchase Christmas gifts. I was hoping that would be the case but I think that it is too late now.

As much as we need money, I don't know if a second ck would really help. I don't work-I have an adominal hernia with no health ins. S.S. sent me to a dr. I had to gather myself after they pressed on my hernia. S.S. turned me down for disability. I would love to get medical help and forgiveness on student loans before another ck that will not get me far.

I think the government should buy each family a brand new American made car!! Do you know how many jobs that would bring?? It would not only help the auto industry, but all the jobs that pertain to the auto industry and trickle down for the whole econmy!! If a 2nd stimulus repeat check, it needs to be bigger than $300/$600. It needs to be at least $2000 each person to make a difference.

Cancel your cable and internet and try reading a book, car pool, learn to live on less because it is inevitable. Turn your heat down, put on a sweater. Shop wisely, don't buy prepared foods and wasteful cleaning products that harm the environment. Use vinegar and baking soda to clean. If people would learn to cook from scratch again they would save a ton of money at the store. I work full-time but still make time to cook meals from scratch. I do a lot of cooking on Sunday for the week ahead. We Americans are very spoiled and need to learn to live within our means so at a time like this we don't need to panic. Too many people think they need to have fancy homes and expensive cars. Learn to live without, you will be much happier and less stressed in the long run. Try enjoying the simple life.

The problem with the stimulus check is it wasn't enough. If they had taken that $700 Billion and given every American $100,000 that would have definitely jump started the economy! And it wouldn't have taken $700 Billion.

Teh stimulus check is just another redistribution of wealth. Why should my paycheck go to someone on disability or welfare? THEY DID NOT EARN IT. Just because they are in the situation, it is not mine, or the governments responsibility to support them. If you think I am saying that they should nto recieve medical attention, food, etc... That is exactly what I am saying. This is what makes a capitalist society so strong. The strong survive, the weak die. We however have over the past 30 years reversed this, which is why our country is where it is right now. Too many poor because genetically we pay for them to reproduce, which creates more poor morons... Universial healthcare is a joke, it does not exist anywhere, someone has to pay for it, you will see a mass exodus of doctors if this happens... So you will have a way to pay for it (to an extent that they steal from the upper middle / wealthy) but no one to perform the services.

CHRISTINE, you live in Florida, and dont have to pay a gas bill. YOUr WORRIED about a turkey, while here in the Midwest, people are more concerned with PAYING a heating bill. CABLE...you could live without...4 kids..that was your choice to have them. Christmas is over rated, and no one has died from not getting a gift. The media has this country stupid around this time. So...go to the beach and shaddup

I am tired of having my tax money thrown back at me to get my vote. I am a REAL AMERICAN and can take care of myself. I don't believe in handouts to anybody. Especially when it's money borrowed from communist China.

I think the stimulus is a great idea and I hope the government has enough compassion to see how the American families really need this. My husband and I were in the RV manufactuing industry for the last 18 years and had both of our jobs ripped from us. We were living comfortably but now face possible bankruptcy and are without healthcare insurance. I only pray things dont get any worse for all us Americans.

I think we do need another stimulous check its not just poor people, there are people on disability. that still don't have enough to pay there bills. im waiting on my disability an its been over a year and i can't even get medicade unless im pregnant that is what i was told but because i have breathing problems i can't get medicade so i can go to a decent dr. yes, us poor people that are waiting on disability don't want to die waiting! we need some help bad!we need another stimulous ck. help the people not just the upper class or middle class!more people than that need it!

Posted by: Melissa Location: science hill ky on Nov 18, 2008 at 07:42 PM
It wouldnt hurt the government to give the American people another check. It helped me. If they want to put the money back into the economy they need to give alot more than they did with the first check.

i think that another stimulis package would help. it would help people like me pay bills off and would help take care of things for my children and help with future bills, also. i would hope that Bush would consider the idea. Just think of this and that is what if he was in our shoes and he was facing the same issues the economy is facing what would he want the president to do?

well let me see, how does one answer this question, my rent is due $1300, my waters due $144.00 my cable bill is due $158.00 my insurance is due $273.00 no job cut backs just file eunemploy ment but tha t a week wait list, no money for food. 4 kids,, annd how many other people are out there in the same sitution as we are, turkey day almost here and ain,t no turkey xmas around the corner gas comes down food still going up. so what dowe need.

Posted by: Jen Location: ligonier on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:10 AM
If the gov't really wants to be sure that a stimulus package will go back into the economy(and not be put into savings) then they need to send out something like a VISA gift card. That way people have to spend it on retail or restaurants, etc.

Posted by: angela Location: newnan on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:52 AM
so we will not be getting a stimulus check

Posted by: roger Location: waycross, ga on Nov 18, 2008 at 12:01 AM
well, the first might not have helped the country like it should have. BUT it did help alot of people that needed an extra boost to the checking account for bills. A larger check would let people catch their bills up and spend some of it at retail stores. Some might think it was a waste of money, but others did not. So if you think you DO NOT like a stimulis plan. Then when you do you taxes maybe the GOVT can put a little box on the tax return for the ones who don't need it or like it to opt out of their stimulis check. So all you have to do is put a check mark in the box and do you part for the country ,so the ones that do need it may have it. I WOULD BET MY LIFE NOT A SINGLE WORKING CLASS SOUL WOULD CHECK THAT BOX ON THEIR RETURN. Also lower class and just about every person in this country.

I THINK A SECOND REBATE CHECK MAY HELP OUR ECONOMY. I KNOW THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE DEALED WITH BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FAMILIES THIS YEAR THAT WILL NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY GIFTS FOR THEIR KIDS OR TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS PERIOD. EVEN IF NOT FOR THAT PURPOSE IT CAN HELP PAY SOMEONE'S RENT OR PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE . THIS COUNTRY IS ON ITS LAST LEG AND IT NEEDS ALL THE HELP IT CAN GET. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP THE HATING AND TRY WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. OUR KIDS FUTURE IS ON THE LINE AND SOME PEOPLE ARE MORE WORRIED ABOUT SOME BLACK AND WHITE ISSUES.

YES, WE ALL KNOW THAT THE GAS PRICES ARE DOWN,AND THE FOOD PRICES ARE UP.AND THEY DOWN SIZED ALOT OF THERE ITEMS LIKE WASHING POWDER, CEREALS, MEAT, ETC. YES WE NEED THE SECOND STIMULAS TO HELP WORKING CLASS FAMILY THAT MONEY COULD GO ON GROCERIES AND OTHER NECESSTATIES, THAT WE THE PEOPLE NEED.HELP ON GAS AND LIGHT BILLS, CHRISTMAS AND GOD KNOWS WHATEVER ELSE. WE NEED ALL THE EXTRA HELP I CAN'T GET HELP ON ANY ASSISTANCE. SO, YES I COULD USE THE STIMULAS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

I believe that another economic stimulus would be beneficial to our economy as our low to middle class seem to be the ones who are severely suffering from our suffering economy!! Also what about our children who are growing up in this poor excuse for a world, what are they all going to do?

Posted by: Joey Location: Indiana on Nov 17, 2008 at 04:25 PM
I agree Meryl. It wasn't necessarily the amount that was wrong but more the timing. If the sole purpose for pumping money is to get people to spend it at Walmart give it to us before Christmas! The only thing is though is that it doesn't really help the economy much when most of the toys sold in our retail stores are made in China and Taiwan. So don't forget my fellow Americans... BUY made in the USA

Posted by: meryl Location: florida on Nov 17, 2008 at 10:32 AM
the first stimulus helped alot-People put it where they needed it, whether it was to pay a bill or to make purchases that they needed. Look at the economy now and the upcoming holiday season-no one has the spirit or the money to make holiday gift purchases-I think a check would be helpful to jump star the season-i forsee this being a poor retail hoiday season. Don't you?

Too many Americans are in debt. Our government is in debt. But, heck, let's throw more money out there into our economy so that somebody's already too spoiled kid can have a merry christmas. Doesn't anyone see the idiocy of what this nation has become? Please don't tell me to leave the country. I'm staying right here. But I want real solutions to our problems. Hint: money is not the solution. Community-Values, Hard-Work, Back-To-The-Basics --- these things will carry us forward (assuming that we have any jobs left in America, or that the Chinese don't come collecting on all the boat-loads of money we've borrowed from them).

Posted by: Laurie Location: Alderman on Nov 16, 2008 at 12:18 AM
To the person who wrote to To Laurie AGAIN: It's not our responsibility to take care of everyone's children?? How warped are your values?? Children are the innocents in all of this, and no child should go hungry or not have care when they are sick. As far as health care, I would rather wait in line, than have costly "medical advancements" at the sacrifice of other human beings. And again, some people deserve and need disability -- you should try to be in my shoes for awhile. I worked 30 years before I became disabled. I am educated--I have a masters degree in a health care field. I can make a difference when I am able. I just can't be wonderwoman and manage serious illnesses right now and be a "full, productive working citizen". No person could manage to do so. And there is still no excuse for letting the severely disabled rot from a lack of health care--come see my world, and maybe you will grow a heart.

The govenment gets its money from WE THE PEOPLE so why shouldn't we get some of it back? If you work you make to much for any food stamps or gas allotments because the bills you pay do not apply but if you're on welfare letting me and every other tax payer pay for your heat, rent, food, cars and anything else you were given because you can't work to support your children and pay for your medical bills then it's okay. Well I believe the 2nd stimulus check is more than well deserved by any working american at this time because it sure would be nice if I had the money to buy my kids some food for once. Oh thats right I work everyday so I can't afford it.

The stimulus checks are nice to get, because it helps alot of us working people to save our homes a little longer, and helps put food on our tables for our children. When you lose your job, or get hours cut, and you can't seem to make ends meat, it is nice to get some relief even if it is for a little while.

How blessed are we to live in the United States and have the freedoms that allow us to do a lot of the things other countries can't, be thankful and look at what you have, not what you dont. Pray for our country, we are going to need it.

Right now I am going to school, and trying to look for a job. Reality check. There isnt any out there. I also have to kids and a single mom. My EX doesn't pay support. He is $16,000 behind in support and is still running around. The courts won't do anything to him. So I guess I could use the money to.

Posted by: crissie on Nov 14, 2008 at 06:19 PM
to the twit who says i am on welfare, i never said the problems was societys you did..how much of your possesions is really yours and not on paper? My husband is very good at what he does..his age became an issue...why pay for experience? If there has never been a lack of enployment for those who are good then why the layoffs and cutbacks, and plants shutting down?those people had been in the field a long time and very good at their jobs..Its time to grow up and see things for what they really are..Ignorance is Not a virtue...

Posted by: To Laurie AGAIN on Nov 14, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Laurie, you need a reality check. It is not my responsibility to take care of someone else child. If the parent who had the child could afford to take care of them then we would not be in this mess. In reality 66% of people NEVER pay their hospital bills which then gets shifted to those that can. Hence, why healthcare is so expensive. If they could deny healthcare to those who could not afford it then we would not have a national crisis. The issue becomes one of supply and demand. A socialised system eventually ends up in return on investment as they do in England. They only have so many doctors, hospitals, etc.. Those who are wealthy go to a private facility that is better. If you want to stop innovation of medical advancement, go ahead an socialize. You will get less medical care then you have now and will have to wait longer. That is reality. As for you loosing your job, you can educate yourself to do something different, if not you would be worthless to a socialized system

Posted by: To Crissie on Nov 14, 2008 at 03:51 PM
To Crissie, food stamps and medicade is welfare. So you are a drain on society. Two kids with medical problems is not a problem of society but a problem of yours. There isn't anything about being too good to be in that situation, just educated. If your husband is "experienced" I would wonder what trade he is in, there have NEVER been a lack of employment for those who are GOOD at what they do.

Posted by: Another Rebate on Nov 14, 2008 at 03:47 PM
There is no need for another rebate. It should not be called a rebate because a rebate makes it soudns like you actually paid something, where many have not paid anything are are getting money back. The poor are poor for a reason, of their own doing. The "rebate", especially a second one, will not affect the economy. To the government, stop giving others the money that I earned, while they created their own sitution. ie, having too many kids, not educating themselves, etc...

I know of several spanish people {husband and wife} who live here in plymouth that recive food stamps and medicaid becouse they work under different names. This makes me so angry!! I dont need food stamps but I know that some american people do and they are denied. I also had a white friend who applied and was denied but when they got a new name they recieved benifits. HMM.. This is how our government works. IF YOUR HONEST YOU LOOSE!!

I agree with the person about the people on welfare to take a drug test. If a job requires it so should the state to get help..that would cause a-lot of people to get a real grip..the way I see it if you can afford drugs you should not need government help with food, money etc...

It can happen to anyone.Get off your high horse..We don't own credit cards or are driving in new cars.I was always taught if you can't pay for it with your own money its not yours, especially if its on paper...maybe if people would stop and practice not going in debt on a nice car and furniture, stero systems, and such trival things the country wouldn't be soo bad and need a bailout..a car is transportation to get you around not to look good..I have seen soo many people choosing to buy on paper rather than use good sense. Its all about greed..yet with what my family has we are happy and have lots of love..Also we don't recieve welfare money.

That is hard to put into perspective so think about this….. Tiger Woods will be the first sports billionaires - he will EVENTUALLY earn $1 billion (Just one billion ! ) we spent 10 times what Tiger Woods will earn in a lifetime in ONE month in Iraq - DING DING DING !! This is to the blow-hard jerk from Nov.1 - I did not LET myself get into that situation. That was during a time when all the factories were laying people off in our area, just like now. I did find another job, but it was minimum wage and I was very young. My ex-husband had already took off with his HO and they took almost everything in our apartment while I was at work. I didn't know he was cheating on me because I was too busy working. Sometimes life can really stink, but I was a survivor. I didn't get welfare and I had no family to help me out, but with a friend's help, I was able to climb out of a bad situation. I paid my bills, but there wasn't much money left for food. I never want to see ANYONE go hungry. Thank God for food stamps, welfare, etc. is there for most people so they don't have to suffer. Unlike you, I realize people are more important than money.

Jessica the point is not to spend it wisely they don't want people to pay bills with it or save it or do anything like that they want you to blow it so it goes back into the economy.

Posted by: Jessica Creasman Location: Alabama on Nov 11, 2008 at 10:20 PM
ok people. You keep talking about wanting another one sent out at christmas time. Why? all your going to do is blow it wheather its on kids or yourself. You dont really need the things you are going to buy. What you need to be doing with it is spending it on bills or anything like that which will help you in the long run. If you put it on stuff you want, how is it going to help you. People say well my bills are always going to be there. Well, so will those things you want, but your bills can be elimiated if you just pay them with it or pay them off. Wouldnt that be smarter. Thats why they are sending them out is so the economy would hopefully be smart with it and use it wisely. The economy is so bad right now, we dont know whats going to happen next. Dont be stupid if we get another one. I got 1500 and spent is wisely but, i do think we should get more than 1500. 2000 or 2500 would help me out and im sure others out a lot. 1000 is nothing these days. Gone in a flash. We need more!

You call bush an idiot why? The first time this came up the dems said no don't do it but bush wanted it and the pressure came on and it happend. It didn't do squat for the economy. Why would he want to put more money in your money hungry hands that isn't going to help again. Get off your lazy butt and work. This is america or well it was i dont know what it is now. And you complain you can't get your kids christmas stuff? Skip the gifts and worry about whats important. People are so hung up on material things its sad. And if you say you need this money to support your kids i'm sorry but you need to stop breeding.

ANOTHER ONE ! Diden't get the FIRST ONE. Diden't even get a letter explain why we didn't get the first one. Some noise about back taxes ( news to me ) - they say we owed. Mean while we carry on earning less than $1,430.00 - for two senior citizens. The gov. say's this the( top amount ) guide line for one person to earn. It sure would be nice to have a little extra to buy medicine or to pay the doctor bills.

People will be more likely to spend it on gifts, etc. For us, who have had the worst year financially that we've ever had, it'll help pay the bills.

I truely appreciated the 900.00 stimulus check I received in Feb. I have 1 child at home. Unfortunatly, I was unable to keep any of the money because I was in the middle of filing for bankrupcy. I had to turn any money I had to my attorney. Another check would be helpful to get Americans like me back on their feet.

I agree 100% with the stimulus check's I could totally use it right now.I am about to lose everything I have worked hard for I think it is time for the government to step in and help us hard working people.I have kids that don't understand why mommy is always broke, they do not understand why mom lives paycheck to paycheck and let me tell you it is hard not only do we need that check but we also need our property taxes droped as well, because of that I have to sell my house on short sale.I bought my house 3 years ago at 95,000 and I have it on short sale I just signed an agreement for 58,000 that is so sad but I have to do what I got to do just so I can save my credit. What I am trying to say is the government needs to help us american'S instead of sending that money to rebuil Iraq or what ever else they want to use it for.Help your fellow people.

Great lets give the people who dont work or pay taxes more money! These are the same people who vted for Obama, all they want is a hand out. Get out and work, and if you cant afford another kid, Dont have one! Or are you just wanting some more Gov't money for that kid, so you can stay home and watch Opra. Whay ever happend to "What can I do for my country" not What can the country do for me. All we are doing is making this country weak! Go out and Work your way up, dont look for a handout!

Another check would help alot of people. Me and my husband where both out of work. Unemployment didn't help much. We could use the money to help us alot with christmas. We have started back to work but our checks just go for bills and food for our family. Sence they say we made to much for food stamps go figure.

Posted by: kim Location: ohio on Nov 10, 2008 at 09:31 AM
If they were going to do it they needed to get it out befor Christmas so more people would be tempted to spend it insted of hold on to it.

Posted by: michelle Location: north wilkesboro nc on Nov 9, 2008 at 11:17 PM
another check would be great, us hard working people with children would love for them to have not only a good christmas but much needed winter clothes and shoes. it is getting harder and harder to make ends meet from paycheck to paycheck. And it is really bad when your employer can not afford to pay over time, so that for extra is out of the question. Please help the working class and I do not mean those that sit at home and work help those of us that have to leave our sick kids to go to work in order to keep our jobs. We are far from rich or anywhere close to it. We need help late bills or how about when it is cold at night and you put extra bed covers on the children because you can not afford to turn the heat up because of the power bill getting to high. We are the one that need help or not knowing from one day to the next what you are going to feed the children when you get home from work knowing they didnt eat much at school. we need help. About to losse everything you have.

wow, all you "suffering" people who are seconds away from financial death can afford internet access and free time to spew garbage "feel sorry for me" in news forums make me sick. I guess times have not gotten hard enough for you to actually change your lifestyle to live within your means and plan for something to happen in the future and this would not affect you. sitting pretty with disability, short term disability, life ins, and cash on hand,-bill. Sucks to be you.

another stimulas check would be greatly appreciated. The cost of everyday living keeps going up, but the American paycheck does not. It is getting harder for people to keep up with their bills. I heard from a friend that we are suppose to get a second check before christmas. I have not heard any thing about this. I keep looking on the internet for information but keep coming up empty handed.

My questions is how big of a "super" refinery can 300 billion dollars build? Then make gas at a fixed rate of $1.00 or 1.50 per gallon and it never goes up or down. Sure we are going to run out of oil supposedely and we know this. When it come it's gone we have from now to then to come up with better means of fueling our cars and trucks, If not, get out your bicycles and or your horses and that has to be better then relying on other countries for oil or anything as far as that goes. If gas was a 1.00 per gallon I think the RV market could still be saved. You know I have lost all faith in our goverment. Greed will destroy our country and we can blame the goverment from the president all the way down. we would be flabbergasted by the foolish spending. If the goveremnt tighted up like all of us have been forced to do maybe we would not be in this position. Thanks US goverment.

I think that getting a bigger stimulus check will help build "our economy"! As long as the people use their check for the little things such as christmas and paying off a little bit of their credit cards. Buying things that they have been needing but didn't have the extra cash to get it. I am a single mother of 2, and let me tell you a second check would mean a much better christmas for my children and pay off some of my bills that are on hold right now!!!

Posted by: Michelle Morris Location: Houston,Tx on Nov 7, 2008 at 07:00 PM
well i feel that we should get another stimulus check because most people used thier first check to catch up on the bills and get other things that thier households may need

Posted by: Gus Location: IL on Nov 7, 2008 at 06:48 PM
We for sure need another Stimulus check. But Bush is not going to even consider it. He is out in January and the only things he will do these last like 2 months will be to help out his rich friends. He does not care about anyone who makes under 2 million a year... In America the rich will always get richer, the poor will get poorer.. and the middle class...well...we make too much to get any help and not enough to get any help all at the same time.....

Posted by: Abby Location: Poophall,MT on Nov 7, 2008 at 05:46 PM
Maybe the Gov. should give us all a really BIG check, that would really regenerate the economy, if we can bail out the banks and morgage cos. we can bail our selves out too. I pay taxes too and sure wouldn't mind spending some of the monies that I have also paid. So h--l ya, bring the checks on!!!!!!!

Posted by: michelle Location: Texas on Nov 7, 2008 at 03:04 PM
I feel there needs to be a 2nd stimulis check - as Bush initially told us we would have one. We need some help, give us a little relief. Many of us work hard, and still can't make it. My husband and I work hard, and still live paycheck to paycheck. No extra to save for unexpected costs. We bail out the big people, how about helping us little people who struggle to buy groceries, pay bills. A little help this way, would be great. Big people need to show us little people that you really care, and don't just tell us you care.

we all know that the gov't only has to print more money, and it is an endless well that can be tapped.........

Posted by: saleanna Location: Michigan on Nov 7, 2008 at 12:06 AM
A second stimulus check would be wonderful. I know that we cannot afford to buy much of anything for Christmas and a little help would be greatly appreciated. People are hurting and need some relief.. The gas prices really did us in.. Traveling to work 30 miles one way each day took a toll on our paychecks and we haven't been able to recover. So without the help of the Government it's gonna be a pretty bare Christmas for the people let alone the economy.

Posted by: Laurie Location: Niles on Nov 6, 2008 at 10:21 PM
To the person who wrote "To Laurie": Obviously, you don't see what I see. Many people have serious medical conditions that make it so they can't work. I tried last year to manage working with a disability/medical condit. and pay medical bills. I worked 70 hour weeks, and still paid $12k of medical expenses. Plus, I had to manage my medical conditions, which took many hours a week also. I nearly died from it all. Now, on social security disability, I am able to work on my health and lessen my medical costs. Not everyone is scamming disability. Also, I work part-time with severely disabled children and teens. They are not well cared for, and don't receive needed services. Their bodies are in horrific condition. What civil society allows this to happen? Some of the children are living on borrowed time due to the lack of appropriate care. I would rather be a socialist and take care of these children, than an "American" who only cares about how much money is in their pocket.

Posted by: Matt Location: Plymouth on Nov 6, 2008 at 04:16 PM
Ya... Thats what we need is to make our National Debt worse so people can buy video games instead of paying off there bills that they have accumulated in these hard times. The last stimulus check did not help the economy why would this one?

Posted by: MIchele Location: Granite Falls, NC on Nov 6, 2008 at 02:28 PM
I feel like a second round of checks is something that many people need to make bills, buy groceries, and maybe just maybe have a little something for christmas. If the government is giving money to the banks and businesses to prevent them from failing then definately the AMERICAN family needs to receive some assistance to prevent them from failing. The lowest levels of an area always flood first... so fill up those moneybags and stop the flood! As we give the bail-out time to work lets make sure that people who are suffering the most get a chance to catch their breath and breath.

I would like to see another check but also before christmas i think that it would help because alot of people her in the south have lost jobs because of this economy and there are alot of families that would like to have christmas for there kids me included so yes i would put it back into the economy and do my part to help we needed to think about the future in our past what have we done to our childern and grandchildren will this ever end.

President Bush has caused enough trouble for this country, he should atleast grant the stimulus checks. I was laid off from my job after 8 years. The rich COO of my company let the little people go so he can keep his job. Everyone can use a stimulus check. If you don't want it, save it for a rainy day or help someone else out with it that isn't as lucky as you.

Posted by: HonestOne on Nov 6, 2008 at 09:26 AM
Nothing will fix this economy. Black/White, bi racial, president..cant fix it. A stimulus check, wont fix it. In reality, 99% of all of our lives have not, and will not change no matter if Obama won or not. My medical, dental and vision will still be the same for quite awhile. The money I lost in my 401k is just that, lost. Paying my mortgage, putting food on the table...same. Nothing is going to change..if anything, its bound to get worse.

Posted by: lori on Nov 6, 2008 at 08:57 AM
to the person who said they would never be poor! that can all change in a matter of minutes, any time you walk out your door you do not know what will happen! i not only worked 1 job but 2 jobs full time. to be able to support my 2 boys, that all changed in a matter of minutes ending up with me in the hospital for 13 days, and that 13 days cost me $179.000.00,my becoming disabled was not of my doing but because some dumba-- was driving with out a licnes with out regard for any one elis safty. i hope &pray you never have to feel like are worthless because of some thing some one elis done. if you do not like the fact that there is peopel on disabilty go fine you a country that feels the same way, there are still some out there, i feel my boys being in the service also gives me the same rights that you have. or just wait because every day our rights in this country land of the free is being taken away!

people need to realize if you do pay taxes, and you get a check, you will pay taxes on it. My problem is why is it all over the news about being so historic with Obama being president? He's not all Black, He's 1/2 white. Why do people look at him as black instead of white? People say race has nothing to do with the election, I say bull, people that are of different races came out to vote that have never voted and probably would have never voted just to say it's historical.

We need another Stimulus check NOW that the Holidays are around the corner and heating bills will be going through the roof. It's 300.00 for most people and I'm sure all of it would be spent and not saved like they say everyone did with the first one. It's a good idea along with the extended unemployment benefits as well as food stamps.

Posted by: s Location: jacksonville fl on Nov 5, 2008 at 03:44 PM
with so many ppl out of work ; they won't piss that money off on big screen tv's or "junk". they'll be paying bills to keep their home or other bills paid. creat jobs first if you want that money back in the economy.i'd love to get another check...but trust me....i for one won't be wasting it.

The stimulus check would be a great help for people in my situation that have a child and have to work to meaningless part time jobs and not makeing it by. I cant wait to Bush gets out of office so we can get our economy back. The check we got before went only on bills that i was way behind in and now i'm back in the same situation.

So just because we have a lot of children, and still would even like to have more, if you see us in public please don't assume we are sucking the system dry! We just love children! So many people are trashing others just for having alot of children. What about those who can take care of them?

I don't knwo where developed the socialist mentality that, "The measure of a civilized society is how they treat the weakest members" I would say that those who are disable may, and I mean may have a reason to be on some for of aid depending on their situtation. The elderly however have had time to plan, if they didn't save or plan for retirement then it is not my job to help them. This is called being fair, stealing money from those through taxes is socialist. If a private individual wants to help them out, then so be it. This could be churches, etc... However, the government as no right to take from one in society and give to another. Keep this in mind when you vote, "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -Thomas Jefferson. The founders of our nation would be appauled with with they see today, a welfare state, that creates a weaker society, that will ultimatly be the downfall of the US.

I think President Bush really needs to think about this. There are family's out here in this world that can't buy christmas for their children this year. I being one of them, I work from pay check to pay check and I dont know how I'm going to find the money to buy christmas. It would be really a blessing for many!

Posted by: Nikki Location: mishawaka on Nov 2, 2008 at 07:33 PM
Well- they say it takes only two weeks to lose everything. Another stimulus check would help some pay a bill or two. Use your resources. Go back to college if you can get some grants. Volunteer in your free time, good things happen to those who are positive. As gas prices are going down (yay) you could carpool to the store. Find local cheap entertainment. It's common sense. Things are going to get worse before better. Now- it is really time to live within your means. But things will get better, just stay positive. If they send a stimulis check..great...i am sure everyone has some kind of bill it can be applied to, if not save it-someday it may be needed.

Posted by: Laurie A. Location: Niles on Nov 2, 2008 at 09:11 AM
People, some people who get welfare are those who need it...the elderly and disabled. Yes, some changes need to be made so it doesn't encourage generational welfare moms with lots of children. But don't forget the disabled and poor elderly that rely on these to just survive. Should the elderly and disabled just shrivel up and die from starvation and lack of medical care as implied by some posters? The measure of a civilized society is how they treat the weakest members.

Posted by: to M. on Nov 1, 2008 at 06:38 AM
M. You have missed the point. I will never become poor. These people don't need help. They don't even contribute to the economy. If itw as up to me, if you were on welfare you would loose your right to vote, possibly citizenship. They make it too easy for those on welfare. It shoudl be embarassing, etc... If you relaize that 50% of the US doesnt pay ANY taxes, and another 60% are government subsidized. You would realize how many people are not contributing to the economy but take advantage of all the services. My question to you if why did you get YOURSELF into the situtation that you were in. Anyone can loose a job, but for the years that I have been working, I have NEVER been without on, and actualy get offers all the time. The problem is that individuals are NOT qualifed for the jobs of today and I am not talking about a college education. Those who are not qualifed (RV, Manufacturing, Many Union Members, etc.) are over paid and underworked.

Posted by: Nick on Nov 1, 2008 at 06:29 AM
This will not "fix" the economy. The policies have to be there before that happens. They need to stop given the unearned income credit, day care subsidization, WIC, food stamps, etc. We need to go back to a society where if you don't work, you don't make money, you can't live. We are building a society that is populated by weak individuals who have 6 - 10 kids, while those who actually work for a living, and earn descent money are paying for their 1 - 2 children, and actually paying for the 8-10 kids that the welfare recipient isn't raising but collecting the paycheck from the government. This cycle has to be broken. Thomas Jefferson said, "democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work" We are now in a state when this is true more than ever and our potential candidate believes exactly the opposite on the founding principles of our country. Obama is more inline with Karl Max, Stalin, and Castro.

Posted by: Nick Location: Niles on Oct 31, 2008 at 04:18 PM
However you word it, it is still Welfare. Money you didn't earn, given to you from the government, that came from taxing someone who did earn his/her money. If people want to contribute to charities that's fine, but this is forced. Don't blame you poor choices in life on other people and expect them to pay. That's socialism plain and simple. There are people who deserve these checks, but many more who don't. It isn't the governments job to make sure you have a decent income.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 31, 2008 at 12:21 AM
i still think with the economy and the workforce being as bad as they currently are...that most working-class people will use the check to pay the mortgage and more bills...i don't see the economy coming back for this reason

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Indiana on Oct 29, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Okay, even if they do decide to send out stimulus checks again, I'm pretty sure we won't get them before Christmas. The government just doesn't work that fast. So, don't get your hopes up on stuffing those stockings too full this year. I really think it's just another trick to try to get everyone to vote republican again this election year. Remember, they are only thinking about it, not promising it. I'll make a bet the discussion of another stimulus check will be forgotten about as soon as the election is over.

I think Brian has forgotten what it is like to be struggling with a family to support. Oh yeah....maybe because he has never had that experience in his life? I work my butt off also and take care of a 9 year daughter (worthless mom)and a 20 year son with medical problems (from the US Army). I do this without any help. Think about the American people and not your own pompous hind-end. I, like many other families, could use the extra income.

I don't know how much another check will help the economy, I just know that if they do it again it would be nice for the amounts to make sense. Last time co-workers at my job who were single, no children and made the same amount as me got $600 and up. I on the other hand, a divorced mother of 1 got $300. That makes no sense!

I say no more checks! Why? Because my wife and I have worked our rear ends off to get to where we are and that sadly prevents us from qualifying for the check. Additionally I have a daughter in college that I claim. She also does not get a check. Thats three checks in my family that get spread out amongst the masses. Sounds like redistribution to me and it ticks me off. Concerning the sick or elderly, let them have a check. As for the unemployed, find a job. If you're one of the people on this list that can't spell or write, go to school and pay attention this time. As for the lazy good for nothings that won't work or sit around getting high while they wait for the check... I choose not to enable you!

But who am I to complain there are others who are worse off than I am. Wish I had a extra dollar and pick the winning number on the lotto then I could see what it is like to not budget one month. they need to give every citizen a million dollars to buy a house/ pay it off, pay off all their debt then invest the balance that would simulate the economy far better than a 700 billion bail out.

A check right now would really help for Christmas. If they were smart, they would have already put it in motion so we would get in in time for X-mas...most people would spend it then, not save it! IF they want people to go shopping, give the $ at the biggest time of the year for shopping! Since most of us are laid off in the county, Christmas is going to be hard to come by for many people.

Mary, I hate to tell you but you are very wrong about the stimulus check being taxed. Duh is right. You do need to go to the website and check because you are not claiming that on your taxes for 2008. You will receive no tax form from the gov't and you do not claim it as income. They told you that in the letter you got before they sent the checks out. Check it out on www.IRS.gov . Don't mess yourself out of some money!! :)

For those of you who are complaining about welfare recipients getting a stimulus check, you are greedy and mean. Some of those people have lost their jobs and can't find another one. Some are very sick with families to support. This money will help provide decent coats and clothes for them and their families to wear this winter. It will help put FOOD on their tables, pay their utilities, put gas in their cars, get medication and so many other things they desperately need. Have you ever been so poor that your stomach hurt from hunger at night? I have! Thank God I no longer have to live that way, and I am thankful for those who helped me get back on my feet. May someone have mercy on you if you ever become that poor.

Just keep printing more and more money and handing down more inflation and debt to our kids. This is insane. Our debt is going to one day just kill this Country flat out. We're so far in hock we have to look up to see dirt! We need fiscal conservatives, real folks who know how to manage spending. Our spending in gov is completely out of control. 700billion here,300billion there...where's it gonna end? In the poorhouse one day soon is where for all of us. As it is,the money printing presses are running lights out day and night to keep up with all the monstrous spending plans. Our Gov is broken,I'm convinced. Anymore it's what can you give me,that's how we decide who gets elected, what're ya gonna give me. Imagine Kennedys 'don't ask what your country can do for you,ask what you can do for your country' speech nowadays! We'd vote his butt out of office first chance we got! Sacrifice? HA! Gimme gimme gimme!! How about living within your means? How about saving for the future, for your kids?

Myrt, I absolutely agree with you, and I've advocated mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients for years. What arguments can possibly be made against it? The cost of testing will immediately be offset by a purging of about half of the welfare rolls.....

A stimulus isn't from your taxes.. educate yourself before you spread insane comments.. look up the definition of stimulus! Plus everyone got the same amount (per person/income ratio).. does everyone you know get the same amount in taxes? Heck no! I pay in every year! And I claim 0 25.. Nothing to do with next years taxes.. sorry

They borrowed the last 80 billion dollar welfare (stimulus) check from the Chinese so that we would be further indebted to a communist country. Idiots. It's all to get you to vote for them, while they sell us down the river. I'll send mine back.

Posted by: Mary Location: Mishawaka on Oct 23, 2008 at 01:19 PM
The stimulus money isn't a handout from the government, it's a part of your 2008 taxes. So if you normally get $1500 back from your tax return and you got a $1200 check back in May then you only get $300 back. If you normally get nothing back then you will owe back the $1200 once tax days come around in 2009. Of course the 40% who never pay federal income tax are just luckier than the rest of us.

Posted by: Myrt on Oct 23, 2008 at 01:16 PM
I'll take a stimulus check if they want to offer it to me - I've been taxed enough! Also, I don't mind people being on welfare if they TRULY need it, but many people know how to milk the system. I had to pass a drug test to be employed, and feel people on welfare should have to pass a drug test in order to collect. That would eliminate many people who are abusing the system and force many people out there to find a job.

also, instead of wasting so much money by letting criminals have their one appeal after another and the many other wasteful funds on this level, housing them forever at our expense... if theyre on death row, then do it and be done with it, not years and years later of housing as well as court funds and their free lawyers at taxpayers expense... too many rights to those pathetic excuses of life and none to the ones who live the right life, the moral life.... GOVERNMENT, QUIT WASTING TAXPAYING MONEY!!! and like said in earlier note, start out by cutting the money you receive and the expenses that are wasteful at taxpayers expense!!!

Posted by: A Location: Mishawaka on Oct 23, 2008 at 01:05 PM
if govt didnt waste funds, way too much in welfare area to those not deserving of it, companies bail-outs-nothing like those who have money get more, God forbid they actually pay for their stupidity! never mind middle class that work way too hard earn diddly, have these ridiculous high costs for needed items and lose their homes, not because of frivolous living either! but bail out the wealthy... of course there are monies that went to the new colts stadium at taxpayers expense, or how about the fact these dumbarse fool politicians get paid for the rest of their life after theyre out of office... that there in itself is a huge waste of money! put huge control on costs: gas,i mean a lot less then as of today $2.84, food, nipsco n quit wasting tax money to other countries! take care of our own! if they would cut out these expenses at our costs there would be more than enough money! they give all incentive to live the wrong life, immoral even and none to live the right way of life!!!

This isnt fair. I cant get food stamps, free medical benefits, a check once a month, help with utilities, pay for my housing, and get to sit on my butt all day and drink and make babies. its sickening. The government should put a cap on how much each woman can get per child, and STOP making babies. Do like they do in China. Yeah...I cant stand being behind one of those *&^% in line with a food stamp card, and see them not even look at prices....and half the stuff is more than even a rich person can buy....disgusting... yeah...i said it....

To Laurie~ boy do you leave in your own litte niave world. My father lost his job of 30 years and no one wanted to hire someone fastly approaching 50 as he was at the time. He always paid cash for everything.. saved more than you have probably earned in your lifetime and still had to start dipping into his retirement to make his housepayment and other monthly bills (elect, gas, phone ONLY) He is the poster child for saving and living frugaly and still had huge issues when they decided to boot him to hire a youngster that would do twice the work for 1/8 of the pay! You need to educate yourself to what the real issues are. I agree far too many people live off the system and ruin it for those that need it. But there are a LOT of hard working educated people with degrees that go through major issues as well. I feel sorry the most for the ones that strive every day to make a better life for their loved ones and lose it in a blink of an eye, then the welfare brats of our wonderful country.

Giving himself the money and screw the rest is his idea. Can't wait until 1-20-09 it the end of the Bush Era I mean Error.I for one could use the money to pay some bills off. I think the stimulus check would help the economy and the families that really need it. No one else wants to help those of use that lost our jobs. I have tried reduced lunch program and help with text books and of course even though my husband and I are both unemployed we don't qualify and of course because we don't want to loose our house we don't qualify for food stamps or any other help. No wonder the banks are getting those houses back. We don't ask for help unless we really need it and we have always helped others when we had a job. So yes if the government wants to help us by giving us more money I would greatly appropriate it since no one else is will to help.

First: DIANE FROM BUCHANAN, YOU COULD USE YOURS TO BUY 'HOOKED ON PHONICS', YOU NEED IT! Second: I'm all for the stimulus checks, I think the corrupt govt we have owes us SOMETHING! They sure as hell aren't doing it at the pumps, grocery store, roads, bridges, or anywhere else around where the working people of this Country are! All they are worried about is Wall Street and the 'Big Wigs' of the Oil Companies. A comment was made in the SB Tribune today that nails it "Stop worrying about Wall Street and start working on Main St" I think Obama made this comment! That's one of the reasons he's getting my vote!!!

Posted by: ME Location: SOUTH BEND, IN on Oct 22, 2008 at 05:22 PM
I too agree that this is only talk...just a way for the Democrats to buy votes for Obama. Obama talks about lowering taxes but when he repeals the tax credits that we have gotten under the Bush administration and puts in his credits everyone will still end up paying more than we are right now. How would the stimulus check be funded?....BY INCREASING YOUR TAXES! Just a gimmick to get more votes.

It's not free money. That's an illusion. We put our last stimulus in savings, and I expect even more so with the economy being uncertain, we'd just put another one in savings and keep living frugally. I agree, what we need are jobs. Better paying jobs and adequate affordable health insurance (if people weren't up to their ears in debt already) would go a long way. I'd rather the govt took that money and used it for a more long term solution. Is it possible that an economy built on credit where consumers spend more money than they have is destined to collapse ultimately? How is a stimulus supposed to a society of people who can't afford their mortgage and car payments, gas, or their electric/heating bills?

Perhaps we need to start charging for a bushel of grain and wheat what the Arabs want for a barrel of oil. Where are the "food speculators" when you need them? Giving more to people on welfare is not the answer. That's just more food stamp money they will sell. How about giving them less and maybe they might be inspired to get off their duffs and get a real career.

I think I should stop working and let the government take care of me. I liked the graphic - food stamps and welfare, and it will only get better after Obama is elected and Pelosi runs the country. I like how people who have never really worked like to give handouts. At least McCain served his country and his wife still works too. Obama both Mr. & Mrs. are thinkers not do'ers.

I understand losing a job is devastating to a family, but most families do not live within their means. Another stimulus check would be nice, but if you are going to use it to pay bills or save it, that's not helping get the money back into the economy. Those of you who are in such deep debt are there because you buy on credit instead of paying cash. You need to live by the rule, if you don't have the money you don't buy it. The government should not bail you or these institutions out for over spending and lending. I live within my means and my taxes should not go to those who can't control their spending and lending habits. I know I am in the minority when it comes to my spending habits, fortunately the time has come, and your indebitness is going to change your spending habits for you. Too bad it has to come to this for people to wake up....

Now that the price of gas has gone down people might be more willing to spend the money. With the gas prices so high, no one could afford to do more than fill their tank to go to work and pay everyday bills. How about keeping the gas prices low and maybe the economy would pick up!

What people need is money in their pockets each week. NAFTA is a good idea but if we raised export and import taxes so high that it would not be benificial to move companies over-seas we would have more jobs here in the U.S.

Posted by: Charles Location: Maryland on Oct 22, 2008 at 01:43 PM
I agree with one of the other comments that I read concerning the Stimulus checks. People would normally just take that money and "live it up" for a day or two, or simply pay off a bill and/or possibly put the money in a savings account for a rainy day. If a Stimulus package is on the horizon, I would suggest it be in the form of a type of credit or debit card with an actual expiration date and that it be timed accordingly to the Christmas holiday...for example, (the card would expire on 1 January, so we'd have to use it quickly and we wouldn't be able to put it into a savings account, or pay off a bill, just simply spend it on something needed or wanted - - particularly along with normal Christmas shopping). This would most definitely infuse the economy with liquidity along with the normal annual Christmas holiday assets that are also going into the economy. Merchants can be encouraged to provide "specials discounts" to persons using their stimulus cards with them (20% off, etc.)

I don't know how minimum wage people even do it! I live paycheck to paycheck barely. Sometimes I don't even have enough to spend on food because of gas, rent, utilities, ect. Then I'm not eligible for any kind of help because to the government I make enough money. How could $1400 take home be enough for 2 people to survive on. This money could really help everyone out. At least get their bills caught up, stock up on grocerys, ect.

When are people going to realize all this "free" money is just someone else's hard earned money taken in taxes. I work hard, owe taxes at the end of the year, and you want me to give more of my money to you. I say get a career with a future and earn it yourself. I've noticed that most of the people posting here who want the handout can't even spell or use proper grammar - maybe that's why you don't have any money. Maybe you shouldn't have those high interest credit cards to begin with, or a house and car you can't afford. The current economic problems are self made. Sub-prime loans, people buying crap they can't afford. I've got news for you, not everyone earns enough to have 3 plasma T.V's, a brand new car and all the other crap think they deserve. You have to EARN it!

They all want to get us use to living off the government so we can be their slaves. The money comes from us who work. Let's spread the wealth around a little more with Obama as President. Moron's! Keep working towards your "I'm a slave to the Government" reward! If Obama is elected and his plan goes through, I already know of 16 people who will lose their jobs because Doctors, Dentists, and those people who are currently giving over $60,000 a year in taxes to the Government, have said they will either retire or really downsize their businesses. They are tired of working their butts off only to have it taken away from them and given to those who refuse to work. Ever heard the phrase, "Livin off the system man!". Yes the poor and needy will always be with us, but it needs to be dealt with at a State or even more local of a level. Too much waste when in the hands of big Government. Obama wants to make it bigger!

You know you guys keep complaining about these people on food stamps well some of us need that because we were laid off and can not find new jobs . Did you know even if you work you can still receive food stamps? I agree most people abuse the welfare system but you have to remember that its also there for people who really need it , and just because you receive them does not make you a lowlife. Also people that pay taxes get the stimulus checks not people just sitting around doing nothing, when you get laid off from work whats there to do other then apply for jobs that are not hiring or staying home and conserving gas ..

Food stamps and welfare??? Those programs shold be cut if not elminiated. If you don't work, you don't get paid, that will force the economy to move. All we do is pay for those who sit home and do nothing to prevent those individuals from commiting a crime. They need to make the use of those programs so humilating that it would be a last resort to use. How about the store have a special line so everyone knows. REQUIRE them to go to financial budget planning and live within their means. If they can't or they have had too many children, adopt the children out to someone who can care for them and revoke their citizenship. This has gone on WAY too long with over 60% of the country on some form of welfare. They need to elminiate welfare and let private charities take care of it, through pirvate donations. To those on welfare or who believe in the system, the government owes you nothing....

For those of you that don't want yours, I'll take it. Also, they should just put it in the form of debit cards if they want people to spend instead of bank it.

The last stimulus check was in the amount of $142, no explination of how that was figured...but I am sure that recieving that $142 will cost me a small fortune in the future. Sure it would be nice to have an extra little bit for x-mas gifts for the family but it seems to me we are robbing peter at this point.

I understand peoples remarks about wanting and not wanting another stimulus check. I didnt qualify for a stimulus check. As a single mom of 2 kids that check could of really helped. I work, go to school, and pay bills. I dont spend money I dont have. I am not asking for hand-outs, but try not to complain too much because you got one.

Uh, WNDU I think you have some wrong information. Bush is now supporting the idea of yet another stimulus package and has been since Monday. At first, yes, he was against it but since the fed. reserve spoke up he is for it now.

Workers are going to get a one time check which will be gone in a couple days, yet the dems wanna raise food stamps which if enacted will be permanent ,so the people who work will still have to go for groc with their calculator and spend 80 to 100 a week if their lucky, while [eople who sit home all day with food stamp can go and spend sometimes over 1200 a month? doe,nt sound right does it? Dems trying to buy votes again.

Posted by: Jim Location: SB on Oct 22, 2008 at 06:21 AM
Stimulate the economy by sending us a check ? Fine I"ll take and spend it. More for unemployment? fine , that means you had a job and can,t find one at this time , but more foosd stamps? NO. the only way they should increase food stamps is if they do it for the people who are getting unemployment benefits, not for the lazy people who are getting food stamps, welfare , housing allowance, etc. maybe if they,d stop giving these career freeloaders more free stuff they would get off their lazy rumps and get a job.then they could spend some of their money NOT MINE, to stimulate the economy. The dems always good for giving handouts, trying to buy votes by giving away our money to people who won,t work . Dems also tried to sneak in giving more food stamp in the bail out package. maybe if they had less food to sit around and watch tv all day they,d go out and get a job like everyone else.

People are saying that the first stimulus did not do any good. The problem was that everyone either saved it or used it to pay bills. The way I see it, Is if the govt did do another stimulous at this time of year people would use it to buy christmas presents and use for the holidays. That would be exactly what we need. It would put the money straight back into the economy. I think that this one would be a great benefit to what we need.

I am not one to turn down free money or say i didnt appreciate it. But the last check did little for me but pay my heating bill for that month. $300 wasent much to get excited over. even if i am a single person i still pay the same amount for a gallon of gas as the next guy. Whats wrong with leanding us who needs it, the money to pay off some of our debts? High interest rate credit cards, medial bills. car loans. student loans. the list goes on and on. Anything that is taking a hugh bite our of our paychecks. If we can get ourselves out of debt we will be more apt to spend again. No not on foolishness. but home repairs, car repairs. new appliances maybe. Big ticket items that we cant afford now. According to this new bailout progam, banks will loan money to people with exellent credit. SO where does that leave us everyday joe who's about to loose his home. lost a job. or just everyday struggles with inflation?

I've got a good idea!! Jobs staying in the US!!!! What good are tax breaks when people don't have jobs to pay them in the first place!!! Start repealing these unfair NAFTA deals!!!

I always seem to be perplexed as to how money in giant shipments can be handed out to save businessmen and businesswomen is always a good idea. Give money to everyday people bad idea. I see no equality in this philosophy. President Reagan started the supply side economy with the theory that the consumer would drive the economy and for many years this was a formidable economic force. Today our elected leaders are more concerned about white shirts and ties than people. I hope our elected officials see the light while there is still funds to fuel it. Frank Lalone

I think the goverment is to little to late with stimulus money. I think if they want people to spend they should first get the gas situation under control and quit protecting the rich and big buissness. It seems the rich get richer (ceo's of our failing banks)and the middle class has faded out of the picture. As our jobs get closed out in these tough times do you really think an unemployed family is going to spend the little bit of money they are talking about on extras I think not. I know I would stick it away for that at the end of the year taxes that will most surely be as it will some how become earned income. It is sad that our goverment thinks people are that out of touch or gulable. I think we need to clean up our own goverment and quit worring about fixing everyone else's. I know I am tired of hearing about how much money we keep giving other countries and in return they turn their backs on us. If I sound made then HELL YA I am enough is enough.

Posted by: stephen Location: Granger on Oct 21, 2008 at 10:49 PM
keep the stimulus package. It's not enough to make a difference. We don't need to go further into the hole. Or use the money to stop the war.

Posted by: chris Location: laporte on Oct 21, 2008 at 10:47 PM
first of all i think that they need to do something give us more money i really would like them to get up and react to whats going on in the U.S.

Another check would be like spitting in the ocean and letting my grandchildren pay for it later. More stupidity of the current failed leaders of our country. Try this idea Stop importing goods, taking pac money and kickbacks giving our hard earned dollars to countrys who dearly love us. Bailing out companys so they can throw thousands of dollars partying. Stop supporting corporte greed. Throw some Ceos and Goverment legislaters in prison. This would be a good start to watch the economy flurish Creating jobs by the Goverment building roads ect means someone is going to have to pay to keep these up. More taxes!!!! More stupidty

whew! i hope so, i have $20 between my savings and checking, living paycheck to paycheck and my 401k looks more like a piggy bank, car is in the shop with a $800 repair bill after i just put $2000 into it a few weeks ago for another major repair, and now i am racking up credit card debt, my first credit card debt in almost a decade. i didnt use the card for frivolous purchases, just to pay for the car repairs. i was doing fine, then started to get a pinch from higher gas prices, then another pinch for higher food cost and there is lees food in the package...grocery store shrink ray they call it.

speak for yourself.the check helped me and others pay on bills-ie car repairs.stop knocking president bush on the check issue.

It was on the news tonight, approximately 6pm via radio, that they are doing nothing right now. Recess till November 17th. I don't think they will pass another stimulus package. They've already spent too much money on the war and the bail out. Can I come out and play too? How about a trip to study marine life or an Elk hunting trip? I haven't been on a vacation in three years. Am I due? If I had someone's tax money to spend, I'd probably been on at least 6 vacations by now. Oh well. Hope someone in Government enjoys their time off at my expense. I don't expect a hand out, just a hand up. I work two jobs. Guess I better start looking for my third.... Oh, and just FYI, I am a REPUBLICAN!

More handouts for the food stamp crowd. That's not very stimulating to those of us working -- oh, that's right, we're not the ones spending money we don't have.

Rebate check? another one? Yes I need it! who doesnt these days, but maybe if this first check was doubled the first time we wouldnt be so deep in a man hole. Why would anyone in there right mind think that between 300 and 1200 bucks and some would save us from the dragon ? OH WELLLLLLLL!! Sure it was put to good use but a person like me would have saved half and spend half and at least I would have saved something for later toward gas.

I sure can use another Stimulus Check,Because of my bills & food costs,ETC

Posted by: Tammy Location: Michigan on Oct 21, 2008 at 08:17 PM
The check my family received went towards unpaid bills. I think most people spent theirs on bills or food. I even heard of people buying clothing their family needed. It's just crazy most people can't afford anything. The poverty levels are going up. People that had good credit are starting to have bad credit. My husband and I are one of them. We are living pay check to pay check. It has been probably close to 11 or 12 years since we've had to do that. It's just a sad situation we are in. It would be nice to get another check. I can already add the bills up I would pay. Mine wouldn't go in the bank that is for sure. Shame on the government for allowing the economy to get this bad. They should have stepped in a lot sooner. That is just my opinion.

Posted by: David Location: Elkhart on Oct 21, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Stimulus Check? Why not call it a 'Bailout check' ? Individual people are hurting, just like the banks. With all the problems involving job losses, foreclosers, and just plain being able to pay bills, people need Money. Isn't it more important that I (as a comsumer) pay my bills, than buy a coat? We, the consumers, are going to have to pay to bail out the banks, won't the government allow us (the people) have a bail out, then pay ourselves back?

Hmmm the dems who were against the first stimulus pack are now backing another one with 2 weeks left till the election. Election strategy maybe? Even though they haven't given a thing they promised when they got in.

Posted by: kc9ixv Location: communist america on Oct 21, 2008 at 06:32 PM
most people did not save it that notre dame guy is ate up. most of it went in gas. bush doesnt support another stimulus because he would rather help his rich buddies on wal street out and the rich banks that were so greedy that they victimized buyers. the money comes from the federal reserve and the federal reserve is not federal in any way. the federal reserve is the world banks and all federal tax goes strait to them just to cover the interest on the debt we owe these banks.fact we will reach a time where we will have so much debt that the federal tax we all pay wont even pay the interest and the dollar will collapse and then we will be forced to go to the amero and if you have any money in dollar's you will get only 2 cents for every dollar you have so say bye bye to your savings 401 k whatever it may be. gold and silver are the answer due to the fact they hold there value no matter what. canada america and mexico will be one country with one currency the amero n.a.u.

Teaseing talk is cheap. It's free. Why would you even talk about it ? Get my hopes up and then let me down. This makes no sense. I could use a stimulus check yesterday. Tomorrow is ok too. False hope this seems to be. When I recievged my last $300.00 stimulus check the next day my Medicaid was taken away. That was nine hundred dollars of mine ago. It hurt me more than helped poor little 'ole me. Get it ?

Posted by: Mike on Oct 21, 2008 at 06:17 PM
Oh, that's just great. This is just another government handout to the people who don't work enough to pay any taxes. This nothing more than a wealth transfer from the hard-working to the non-working.
