We're exactly three weeks from election day-- and as the countdown gets shorter it seems political emotions are growing higher-- especially in one South Bend neighborhood on the northeast side.

Several McCain supporters in that neighborhood are speaking out after getting a nasty, anonymous anti-McCain-Palin letter in the mail.

Newscenter 16 spoke with three families who got the letter in the mail on Tuesday.

They say the mailman said he delivered about eight of these letters to their northeast side neighborhood.

All the families targeted have McCain-Palin or pro-life signs in their yard.

The letter doesn't threaten the people, but takes jabs, with some "choice" language, at their political views.

“I feel like the individual is very angry about some issues,” explains Rita Nedvidek, who received one of the letters.

The letters are handwritten, all addressed to "occupant", and postmarked Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The sender takes jabs at McCain and Palin's characters and writes, "You Republican hypocrites turn my stomach."

He or she also says, "It takes a lot of audacity to put Palin's name on your front lawn."

“The audacity to put Palin's name on my front lawn!” exclaims Kristen White, another neighbor who received a letter. “I mean, I can put whoever's name I want on my front lawn.”

“It makes me really angry that someone would send this. It's fairly anti-American, whole process is. I get to vote for who I want to vote for and you get to vote for who you want to vote for,” adds White.

“I think the letter was sent towards pro-lifers. I think a lot of the comments that were made were regarding Palin and her family and her families’ choices and what they've done,” says Petra Farrell, another neighbor who got the letter in the mail.

Those who received the letter say they're all for free speech, but find it troubling that the sender didn't sign his or her name. “When you are expressing your freedom of speech, you need to sign it. When you send it anonymous, and it's ugly and threatening, then you're using intimidation,” adds Nedvidek.

Meantime, a spokesperson for St. Joseph County's Democratic Party says the letter is out of line. “Obviously, the Democratic Party doesn't condone anything that is threatening anyone in any way, shape or form. We definitely do not condone that,” says Debbie Ladyga-Block, Vice Chair of St. Joseph County’s Democratic Party. “This is definitely someone voicing their opinion and it's unfortunate that they chose this manner to do it.”

“I feel if they really were passionate about it, put an article in the newspaper, put your name in and let people write back, I think that's a good forum. I think it gives everybody a way to sit down and write out their views, let the people post it on there,” says Farrell.

Despite the letter, the neighbors we talked to say their signs are staying up.

Newscenter 16 also contacted South Bend Police about the issue. They said other than some stolen political yard signs, they haven't had any major issues so far this election season.

Nope, not buying it. Obama the arugula-eating urbanite using the "lipstick on a pig" phrase was about as random and innocent as Hillary bringing up Bobby K's assassination. So we're not talking about "anyone" using the term, we're talking about a political opponent using it several days after the reference. And the point is not that it's necessarily a "hateful" comment, but that the Dems are engaged in the same sort of "mean-spirited" politics they accuse the Repubs of perpetrating. As for Barack Hussein Obama's middle name, apparently it would be less "hateful" for me to call him "Barbie", which I am perfectly willing to do... =)

Posted by: Chaz Location: South Bend on Oct 27, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Lipstick on a pig has been a comment for a long time. The fact that caribou barbie used a joke that contained the word lipstick does not mean that anytime someone uses that term they are referring to her. Meanwhile, using his middle name is fine but you clearly are trying to make it an issue by doing so. That makes you hateful.

It's pointless arguing with "a mom"; it's very clear that she only hears what she wants to hear. Obama can throw out the "lipstick on a pig" comment and get a pass, but apparently using BHO's full legal name is somehow hateful. I also think she should study up on the principles of communism and socialism before she decides to defend The One on those charges.

To "a mom on Oct 23, 2008 at 10:50 AM" Actually, Governor Palin did answer the question of what newspapers, and magazines she reads. Her answer was, "All of them", which can easily be translated into, "Too many to discuss in this short period of time". The idea that a governor busy running in a Presidential campaign should be asked to endorse any publication is ludicrous at best, and the best proof of that is no one ever asked B.H.O. the same silly question.

To "a mom on Oct 22, 2008 at 09:44 AM" You propose to support Obama who fought against a bill in Illinois that would have forced doctors to assist the live delivered babies of failed abortions. Instead of being rendered necessary medical assistance they are left to die. When you support the man you also support his deeds. You are concerned that Obama's middle name of Hussein is used. I consider that to be rediculous since Obama could have easily had it changed years ago if he didn't like it. He kept it which leaves people free to use it, and such are the facts. I cannot tell you if a comment offends me without knowing its content, but I do know that the report of someone yelling "Kill Obama" is false as it has since been reported that the Secret Service found no [ZERO] coroberating evidence of anything of the sort having happened, but you may be interested in this ... http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2008/10/video-kid-playing-kill-sarah-palin-computer-game.html

Shelby: The WMD is not what caused 9/11. I agree we had to look into it, but not at the time we did. Bin Laden was our enemy, Bin Laden killed our people. Sadam needed to go don't get me wrong, but we fought that fight at the wrong time. America should have focused on Bin Laden. That is a much more immediate threat. How did we get from Bin Laden to Sadam? In my opinion, we were deverted. I like McCain, I am just sick that he has let people, including Palin, spew such hiddeous things about Obama. When someone yells out "kill him" or "terrorist" I EXPECT a member of our government to say STOP. under NO circumstances should this be allowed. And to me Palin just plain does not know what she is talking about. I think that when she gets her feet wet a little more, she will be good. Now is not her time. She can't even answer what newspaper she reads..make something up, pick one, but sound intellegent at least. Frankly, I worry for this country no matter who wins.

mom, first of all, the secret service has proven that those comments were not said, the roperter from MN has been proven to have lied. 2nd, you're acting like freedom of speech should be censored by having them stop it. 3rd to everyone who doesn't know why we went after Saddam, our leadership decided that we would end the possibility of radicals supported by the gov't so 9-11 would not happen again. ask a soldier why he/she is there. We have not been hit again have we? This kind of rhetoric helps me understand why you would vote for someone who is endorsed by communists and socialists. That is reason enough for me, not to mention his policies to kill jobs and increase taxes are absurd. Since when is it racist to use someone's full name? that IS his name, is it not? Conservatives disagree with obama because of policies, not racism, but the stage is set in your mind to blame us for being racists when he loses. good luck with that.

Posted by: Shelby on Oct 23, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Mom - that's my point about the MWD. Our entire government from the President to his staff to the House all the WMD were there. To include Obama and McCain. Heck US Troops found intact jets buried in the sand dunes so it is plausible to believe that the WMD are buried as well and Saddam used them against Iran in the past. Obama will not withdraw our troops - sure we will have less of a presence but we will always have troops there. Why? Iraq is floating on a sea of oil and the only countries who have oil are the only ones with money today. Iraq was unstable and someone was going to go in there and take it over. Did you want Iran or Russia to invade it and grab all that oil? Obama has slung his fair share of insults towards McCain and Palin its just that the press is pro Obama and seems to select what they want us to hear. We only hear the bad press about McCain and little leaks out through the major networks about Obama. You have to listen to the radio to get the real picture.

Posted by: a mom on Oct 23, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Shelby: I believe our troops should be looking for the people responsible for 9/11...so then explain how we ended up searching for WMD? I am deeply concerned about the amount of money, not to mention lives, we are spending and Iraq has a surplus? I do not believe in this war...had it been Bin Laden we went after like this, that's a different story. I support our TROOPS and I thank God we have them. I am not voting for Obama because of charisma, I am voting for him because I think McCain/Palin have run an absolutily DISQUSTING campaign. Palin, in my opinion, has made a fool of herself. Whoever gets elected will mess up sometime, I know that. I cannot get past the hate filled comments the Rep have made. Even that Michelle Bachman, what is wrong with her? People have lost their minds. They have let human decency go down the drain. I don't think anyone has the absolute plan for Iran, Iraq or Afghanistan, but we have to do something.

Posted by: Chaz Location: South Bend on Oct 23, 2008 at 09:19 AM
To ME: Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the 2 books he has written that both made him millions of dollars? McCain lives in 8 houses that cost substantially more than Obama's. How does any of that matter? I'm astounded by the idiocy of the average person. You get the government you deserve...

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 23, 2008 at 08:58 AM
People with small sallaries can live in very expensive homes. Not that it is your buisness and it is weird that you care that much. But in Chicago area salaries are extremly higher than here therefore you can afford a more expensive home. Duh 1st of all and 2nd the houses that are over a million in that area are about comparable to a 250-300k home here. When you buy homes young and start building up your equity know what happens? You can afford a bigger and more expensive home... you are paying for a 150 k home but living in a 300k home. Or in Chicago area maybe a 400k home that is worth 1 million. Isn't that exciting? I know it is complicated to some (clearly to ME) but it is possible.

Posted by: ME Location: South Bend, IN on Oct 22, 2008 at 06:22 PM
To Denise: I have gotten smarter as I got older. That is why I will NOT vote for Obama. McCain may be wealthy but he sure gives back. Obama lives in a house that costs over a million dollars. Where did he get that kind of money? At least McCain has a background that can be checked out for where his money is coming from. Can Obama stand up to that.

Posted by: Shelby on Oct 22, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Mom - Obama has stated some scary stuff about how he plans to deal with Iran. If our relationship with Iran, Russia, and Venezuela continues to deteriorate then expect more troops defending our liberties and invested interests. As for the current war, don’t forget why we are there. We are searching for the people responsible for 9/11 - an attack on this country. It does not matter where they are. Also recall who the Secretary of State was when we invaded Iraq with the full endorsement of Congress - Powell - an Obama supporter. So don't vote for Obama because you think he will withdraw troops from the Middle East. He can't and he won't. We will always have a presence there just like we have bases in Korea, Japan, Germany, etc. I am voting for McCain - a proven tested leader. Obama is not proven and he is not tested. Neither is Biden and neither is Palin. So I will side with an experienced leader to deal with our current state of affairs. Not for charisma.

how can someone create jobs when they are taxing the rich more? Think about it. Who BUYS RVs (ppl over 250 000) Who Builds RVs(ppl under 250 000) if the people over 250 000 chose not to buy them good bye jobs (as we have seen)

Posted by: a mom on Oct 22, 2008 at 09:53 AM
And just for the record...I would be EQUALLY outraged if Obama or his campaign or the democratic party were saying the same things about McCain. This has NOTHING to do with the party...it has absolutly everything to do with the morals, values and decency of people. It is just unacceptable for ANYONE to do this.

Posted by: a mom on Oct 22, 2008 at 09:44 AM
To Danno: I am for Obama, although I do NOT support live birth abortions. I am sickened at the thought of it. Saying that democrats spread "lies and filth" it would be more honest to acknowledge that BOTH parties say lies and filth. Do you condone what horriable things are being said about Obama (terrorist, Muslim, using his middle name against him, and the newest is communist?) I'm not asking you anything about his policies or what some say is his lack of experience, I am asking about the horrible words that are being said and the hate and fear that those words are putting into the heads of all Americans? Do you support or are you appaled by those comments?? I do not know of any comments as severe being said by the democrats about republicans. My point is, regardless of who you think would do a better job, the HATE comments must stop. What makes America great is that we can vote for whoever we want, but what happened to human decency??

Posted by: Conservative Location: here on Oct 22, 2008 at 09:12 AM
I read the posts here and one thing sticks out...if you dont vote for some one with NO EXPERIENCE, and radical left terrorist ties you are a racist... some one here commented that if you are on welfare you should not be able to vote. That is not a very politically correct thing to say...smart though, honestly if you are not a purpose server in our country why would your opinion matter to the people that WORK? lets face it people, poor lazy non- purpose servers will ALWAYS vote left it is an insurance policey that they will continue to be allowed to be lazy on hard working peoples dime. Hard working people will continue to vote right so they wont have to support the non-purpose servers. Ok there is my rant...now all you non-purpose servers can flame me for being a heartless SOB...but remember this heartless SOB and the rest of us right wingers are the ones that are supporting all you non-purpose servers.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 22, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Oh Danno... how sad you are. And delusional. Stop glorifying it.. sorry to break it to you but things are just not that exciting. Step into reality. This is not Lord of the Rings.

Posted by: DannoJyd Location: Niles, MI on Oct 22, 2008 at 05:38 AM
It seems that the nastiest tactics always comes from the pro LIVE BIRTH ABORTION democrats. Again, here is the proof that democrats spread lies and filth. They must feel the need to go negative due to their candidate being less than qualified to be POTUS. It is certain that B.H.O. could never get a sensitive job in Washington as he cannot pass the security check. In the meantime, ACORN continues to produce falsified mail-in votes with stolen identities. Democrats cannot win without those. Even Joe Biden is warning us that B.H.O is the wrong choice as B.H.O. will definitely make decisions that America will not like, but at least they will make sure you will be allowed to go on welfare. I would be ashamed to be a democrat today, thus I am proud to be a McCain supporter. God Bless America!

Well looks like on November 5th everyone will be conforming to Islam... you people that believe such unbelievable things are just sad.

Posted by: Joe Location: Goshen on Oct 21, 2008 at 01:03 PM
The sad thing is that most projections have Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois going to Obama. But Indiana leaning towards McCain. It would be nice that when the first African American president is elected two weeks from today, our state doesn't stick out like a racist sore thumb. We've watched hundreds of thousands of jobs go away for the last eight years, we see dozens of homes for sale in every part of almost every city, and we watched as republican leadership has failed far too many people. Yet we're probably going to be a red state again. Don't be afraid to consult sites like craigslist and look at some of the comments. Unlike here, anonymous comments don't need to be approved. So we can see people showing their true colors. Racists and morons who believe any rumor they read that backs up subconcious racism. That's who's giving away our 11 electoral votes and we get to go down in history with that unfortunate label in this election.

Posted by: Emily is Ignorant on Oct 21, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Emily, you are the ignorant one. Obama's policies are socialist. Taking from the well off and giving to the poor who did not earn it. if it was up to me we would all pay a flat tax. I am not talking percentage of income. What I mean is if you can't afford to pay to live in this country you should loose your citizenship and if you are on welfare, you should not be able to vote. You can't take are of yourself so how can you make a decision about our leaders.

Posted by: a mom on Oct 21, 2008 at 10:47 AM
to continue...I do NOT condone these letters either. I would NOT vote for McCain/Palin BECAUSE of this childish behavior. I can't get past it...using someones middle name against them! Having a POLICE OFFICER stand up and use his middle name in an attempt at growing hatred and fear... a POLICE OFFICER for God's sake! Have they NO shame! Argue health care, jobs, economy, Iraq (not to mention how did we go from Bin Laden to Huessin...has that question EVER been answered? Our kids are DYING and being DISFIGURED, PTSD, PARALIZED, LIMBS MISSING for people that had NOTHING to do with 9/11. God Bless our Men and Women and their families. Protecting America is our responsibility I believe, but does no one think we fought the wrong person? Really..no one?? I am off on a tangent but I cannot believe that people can be so stupid. Yes stupid...no matter which party you are for, this "hatred" talk has to stop. Some wacko with a gun is gonna kill Obama, and for what, for his middle name.

Posted by: a mom on Oct 21, 2008 at 10:37 AM
I am truly amazed at how guliable some people are. McCain/Palin should be ashamed of themselves. Using Obamas middle name in a way to spark anger amongst people..shame on you. He no more has control of his middle name then you or I do. "Palling around with terrorists" are you serious. First off, if any of the Muslim, terrorist garbage was true, don't you think it would have been an issue LONG before this? The Republicans are like little girls at a cat fight. Shame on you for allowing and provoking this spu of hatred. All the shouting of things at their rallies..shame on them for not stopping it. Let's make people FEAR him in order to win. To those that say Obama puts out negative ads..you can't compare ANY of his ads to these examples. If you had a decent bone in your body, you wouldn't condone it either. No matter who you vote for, this is so wrong it shames the human race. Stick to the issues, drop the terrorist garbage. I cannot believe we have come to this.

Poor people have been voting for democrats for the last 50 years and they are still poor.

Posted by: Shelby on Oct 20, 2008 at 07:15 PM
Dang my last sentence made no sense. Curses on trying to edit with a limited number of alloted characters. What I meant to say is that a Democratic president with a democratic congress is not good for this country. I do not put blame on just one party - both sides are to blame. But we need a balance. They each have their own special interests and they forget why they are there and who they represent. Putting blame on only one party is nonsense. So rather than bicker on who Obama hung out with when he announced his run for the senate (you are judged by the company you keep), what Palin did not say during her interviews and Bidens lackluster academic record we need to start holding all elected officials responsible. Lighten up, open your eyes and don't be swayed by charisma promises that you know are not good for the current America.

Posted by: Shelby on Oct 20, 2008 at 02:50 PM
Emily - everything that you have said also has been said about Obama/Biden. Palin is no fool. AK is not an easy state to govern being so close to Russia and with an 80% approval rating she is doing something right. I have family living in Wasilla, AK and they have met her several times and speak very highly of her capabilites. And they physicians - not moose hunters. Her hesitation with the Bush Docterine question does not imply ignorance. To me it looked like she was overcoached and trying to remember what she was supposed to say. Look at all the flubs Obama has made and yet people look the other way. And yes, look at the corruption in the police and FD. Look what the gov't did to the lending institutions. Many time when the gov't steps in to save the day the situation gets worse. We are in challenging times and I firmly believe that Democratic President should lead this country out of its current state. A Democratic house led us here and they should not keep leading.

Wow, Shelby. Do you ever use the police or fire department? Aren't those supplied by the government? Are you a socialist? And who is Sarah Palin? When you vote for McSame, you're also voting for her. Talk about vague words-all she can do is to read from a teleprompter. The press has been easy on her after they found out that she's too ignorant to answer a simple question (Bush doctrine). If you should find anything frightening, it should be the hate and division that the Republican Party is stirring up. The Obama campaign is refusing to respond to all the negativity. My wish is that Americans will start doing their homework-and stop believing everything that they read on the internet.

We need to vote for the man who will make good decisions and come through with his promises! However, I am not sure that the next 4 years are going to be any better than what we have with President Bush! We need to hold on to our hats because it is going to be a bumpy ride with whomever gets into office! You know like a roller coaster!

Contrary to what alot of people think, the US will not abandon a free market system. As many people like to point out, history tells of only more corruption and abuse under socialistic leadership. Why have Germany and France elected more conservative governments in the past 5 years? It does not work. It really does not matter, greed and corruption will exist in any form of government, and always exist. The more people that take personal responsibility and become pragmatic about their situation, the better off we will all be under any political party's leadership

Posted by: J on Oct 19, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Vacant promises? Well if McCain wins remember he said he would not raise taxes for anyone (Just like Daddy Bush "Read my lips, no new taxes). He will have to, the debt is so large it will be the only way to pay it off and if he wants his special programs they will have to be funded by something. So I think you are just fooling yourself thinking McCain is the Maverick and can do it magically.

Posted by: Shelby on Oct 19, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Does it not matter to people who Obama is? I do not believe in his vacant promises as to what his plans are for this great country. His words are so vague that he can mean anything. And when he has provided more detail, he backtracks all over himself. So I have no clear idea what Obama really believes in. I do believe that he has a close association with Ayers – a known domestic terrorist and Wright - an anti American hateful racist. His brothers’ activity in Kenya is frightening. I also feel his political views border on socialism and his analysis on Israel and Iran is unsettling. But what scares me the most is our Congress and I feel certain they will support him. The notion that he inspires people that Colin Powell stated is not the only criteria I look for in a national leader. I am not seduced by his palpable charisma and sweet rhetorical talent. I just hope Americans sober up and come out of their Obama induced comas on Nov 4.

Obama believes that is he TAXES big corp. that this will save us. This is applying socialist theory to free market can't be done. Heres why. In a socialist Govt. the Govt controls every aspect of the market from tax to cost of product. With Obama he is going to control just TAX. If I make a product and want to make .50 cents on every sale I have a mark up so i can make that .50 cents if extra tax drives up overhead (cost of making product) then I raise the price to still keep my profit. So who really pays for the TAX. Thats right the comsumer You and Me. Big corps are not leaving the U.S. because of cheap wages, that is what the Dems want you believe. The real reason most corps leave is as follows in the U.S. we have 2nd Highest corprate tax in the world, the most strict EPA standards in the world, Osha red tape, and the list is longer yet. most of these regulations and Govt. control are from our friends the Democrats. Think about it.

Julie, in a few years, when obama is president, we will have to REMEMBER what was said back in the good ol days. How could you possibly, in america, vote for anyone who advocates in regard to capitalism, "one of the reasons I am running for the presidency, is to bring this philosophy to an end"-anyone who intends to end a whole philisophical ideal that this country was founded on is NOT rationally electable by we the people. Stop thinking his promises of government being the answer will fix your life. You are better than that.

1/3 of the Acorn applications are not faudulent or have discrepancies. In fact less than 1/10th of 1 percent have errors or issues. But don't let facts get in the way of your ignorance.

If the local Deomcratic party doesn't condone their actions, then why don't they spend some of their money to find out who did it and put a stop to it. They won't try to find out of course, because they are condoning it. They condone it by their very silence in not trying to find out. Don't let some moron deter you from getting out to vote or expressing your opinion on who is the better candidate. These are the rights you have by choosing to live in America.

I don't condone what these people are doing. I'm afraid for this country. Obama is about peace. Do your homework, and don't believe everything that you read. Factcheck.org. Use it.

The fact that Obama is not outraged at the widespread fraudulent activities of ACORN seals the deal that I could never vote for him. How lame is the excuse that fraud has not been committed yet. Look how much time/money will need to be spent by voter boards, officals, judges etc to protect the sanctity of our right to vote and have a fair election process. Dems are saying this is a Republican ploy. Please. I guess Ohio should just look the other way when 1/3 of their new voter registrations have discrepancies. Obama equals fraud. He preys on the uneducated that don't realize he can't possibly deliver anything close to what he is promising. Many don't even know what socialism is. I choose to vote for someone with a long track record of serving this great country not a "community organizer" who has barely served in the Senate because his campaign has taken up most of his short Senate term. Also note Michelle Obama is not "home taking care of the children" as you claim Sarah P. should be.

Follow-up to my earlier comment... I've read more of your comments and I feel I'm being insulted. Loyal Americans are only Republicans? Well, I wore the uniform of the USAF in my younger days and laid my life on the line for the USA. I work hard and don't take monies from government programs. My family has been here since the first: Mayflower, Jamestown, and even signed the Declaration of Independence. Maybe we need a Native American in this seat and see what goes on...? You want to talk socialism? The programs that keep you going are from FDR: SOCIAL security! Remember the TVA, CCC? Socialism, in moderation, gets us back on our feet. Stupid LIBERALS? Please! I know a lot of them, and they are some of the most well-educated people I know. Stop the stone throwing, or your house will get shattered, too. No one is perfect, and I still don't see who can help. And ACORN, been around for years.. Just a few zealots that threw an iron in the gears.

Taxes should go for defending this country not for paying for some bum that is to LAZY to get a job. To Liberals SUCK on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:37 PM: I think you might want to watch some McCain ads and see that he attacks Obama also. Nobody said that they do not care about the unborn. I, being a woman, think this is a personal choice for every woman. She has to endure the emotional problems that it causes and answer to God. About Iraq and Saddam, we were suppose to be finding Bin Laden for being the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, why didn't we find him, because the Bush family and his family did businss together. Are you saying you do not care about all of the people who died in the 9/11 attacks, but were so worried about the people under Saddam. Bush only went up against Saddam because daddy couldn't do it when he was in office. Yea, Obama should lose because he probably came around and picked up all the signs himself. Talk about a whiner or should I say weiner.

This is to ME the 56 year old, I though you were suppose to get smarter with age? He has money and no matter how everything turns out he will go back to his lavish well off life style and if he goes into office he's going to make it easier on the wealthiest people who don't need handouts

Your argument is fundamentally flawed, Incredible. If I were a "barely graduated high school, minimum wage yokie" (with, presumedly, few job skills), I would be BETTER OFF voting for the candidate who cares about big business, since I would depend on those big businesses for my employment. Unless of course, you assume me to be lazy as well, in which case I would definitely vote for the entitlement candidate.

Just for the record both democrates and republicans are hypocrites. No one is perfect and to think your party is, your not to bright. You need to look at the issues and what the long term effect will be. Example a wild animal if feed in captivity long enough will accept its captivity. Something alot of liberal groups oppose such as peta and wwf but isn't it funny its ok for us humans. Scare us with economic woes tell us we will go hungery then say I will take care of you just follow me. What will we give up? Have we not learned from history? We have lost what first made our country strong. Freedom and I am sorry to say I think we going to loose it to people who just do not get it. Trinkle up won't work! Share the wealth is another way of you give me what you have I will just wait while you do the work. Sorry there is more takers then givers in this nation anymore.

Not that I think Obama is some "savior", but he sure as heck is a better choice than McCain. I have to sit back and laugh at all these barely graduated high school, minimum wage yokies who think that Republicans such as McCain care about you. He cares about money and big business! Wake up!!

I am 56 years old, grew up on the west side of town that is truly democratic. I have not voted Democrat since John Kennedy. All that the Democrats belive is tax and spend. Why is it that once you have held governent position you get health coverage for life? Holding an government position is a job! If I was to leave my job my health benefits would be terminated. Why are they any better than me? What other President after holding office for only 9 months has had to face the challenges that President Bush has had to face. Ask yourself where we would be today if 9-11 had not happened? Just what is this country going to be like if Obama should happen to win. With his Muslim, terrorist and radical ties, just where is this country heading. Everyone needs to get out and vote for Mccain/Palin. They will look out for the people and our countries best interest!

Some even try to use his middle name against him.If his middle name was Joseph would he be a communist like Stalin? Alot of people are ignorant! Deborah, I, too, voted "Christian" when I voted for Bush. Now I know better!!! We are not voting for God in this election. Both of these men are just humans with flaws, as we ALL are. As a Christian, I have learned to keep politics and my religious beliefs separate. After all, at the end of the day, God is our ruler! HE is where our faith should be, not McCain and not Obama. That's basic Christianity. No need to be radical about it. When women and men make decisions affecting their personal lives, we (as Christians) should exercise the fruit of the spirit. I am ashamed at how my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ are acting, but I am praying for unity, peace and love throughout the U.S.A. regardless of who our next President will be. There is enough hatred already.

To Jon in SB: What I meant by "I'm tired of helping people who won't help themselves" is...there are too many people on Welfare and SSI who shouldn't be. Someone needs to regulate these programs better. If you have 2 arms and 2 legs that work properly then why can't you get a job too? Too many women on welfare go out and have babies just so they can stay home! This money should go to those who really deserve and need it! Like to the couple who both work and don't have ins. because the husband is "technically" a temp., but they make just enough that they don't qualify for any help! I see people all the time who tell me they can't afford to pay their bill because they are on a limited income(SSI), but yet they stand in front of me and smoke cigarettes! Hmm, how'd they get those? That's the kind of crap I'm sick of!

Interesting that this is big news when Republican individuals, who have chosen to put their political views on display through yard signs, get mail that attacks their political choice, but when the Catholic Bishops make not-so-veiled threats to withhold the sacraments from Catholics if they vote for a Democratic candidate, it isn't news... Yet again we see the hypocrisy of being told we should feel sorry for the Republicans whose feelings get hurt, but the Democrats need to just deal with it because it is part of the political process.

Hey Larry, you seemed to FORGET that Palin IS existing Govenor of AK (not AL btw). She is in charge of not only their government but also their military. You seemed to forget also she was the person that fought against the "big oil companies" and bargained a deal where EVERY Alaskan received monies from that money. You seemed to forget too that she has more years of public service than Obama's meager 143 days in the Senate. OH, and when he was there, and there was a vote on the floor that needed his attention, all he voted was "present"!! What the hell is THAT for a vote. Now doesn't that just give you a really warm and fuzzy all over??? (It gives me shivers!) Go ahead and vote for him. It's your right, but don't come back here bitching that "he wasn't the man he said he was"......ALL Democrats believe in "share the wealth" which means MORE taxes for everyone. They have to keep up their aircraft yeah know? Oh, Palin SOLD her Governor's aircraft in AK, did you know that??

Looking at all the comments vote for who you believe is the best to keep our country safe, help the economy without taxing you to death and saying they will take care of you.Since when do free people have to pay to be taken care of? The mentality of people, that they are entitled to a retirement,Good health insurance have you ever wondered how are grandparents made it? They did not have all those things. We have raised a bunch of spoiled brats. Its time to work people get your hands dirty and earn what you want in this life. We are are suckers believing a president not the do nothing congress is to blame for our woes. You should look at what they have past the last two years. These people live high on your tax dollars they have a great salary, pensions, and healthcare.Remember when gas was $4, Nancy Polesi said not to vote and go on break. You want change? Clean house get rid of all career politicians, Cut their pay make them have to pay thier way then you will see less pork.

Let's not forget that he sat for 20 years under a paster that discriminates against whites or forget his terrorist ties to Ayer who bought him his first home. Obama doesn't need to worry about paying more taxes, because everyone else is buying for him. Only after he is in office, will the whole country see how dangerous Obama is for this country. To Observer from ND: I would just like to say that the majority of people who have posted comments about this article have expressed a dislike for Obama. So, from that, I would gather that they are Republicans. And many, many of those people have posted comments that have misspelled words, grammatical errors, and the misusage of punctuation. As have some of the Democrats. Don't make generalizations about people you don't know. I find it appalling that you would say that Democrats have a lower IQ than Republicans. All I'm trying to say is that there is absolutely no reason that we should be calling each other names because of our beliefs and who we plan on voting for. Just because I'm a Democrat DOES NOT mean I am a stupid or ignorant person. I know that I definitely would not think that of you.

I am not in support or condemnation of this person.I am simply saying there is enough hypocrisy to go around on both sides. How negotiable the lessons in the "Good Book" get when it comes to politics or anything else for that matter. We should not be hating each other in these troubled times. Neither camp,Obama or McCain, had anything to do with this persons thought process. Hatred is not a pretty thing and those of you practice religion and bashing not only this anonymous person and the other posters party, what ever your political affiliation may be, are truly shining examples of why I left religion all together. Its hard to believe that so many people want to fight and argue about something that is inevitable. Whomever becomes president is who everyone in america is going to be stuck with for a while. Vote for who you personally believe is the best. Second, i believe that when we have two canidates that DO NOT BASH each other, but talk positive about themselves and their ideas we will have found two of the best people to become president. Im sorry i can tell anyone anything they want to hear, but that doesnt mean everyone is going to agree with me and my beliefs. A president can say, "yes I WILL do this" but what most people forget is the fact that because they say that doesnt mean it will happen. Congress MUST vote yes or no to anything that a president tries to change or put in place. So dont rely on what one person may tell you what he or she will do for our country, they can only try to do it.

Anonymous, this economic meltdown affecting the whole world was caused by just a few hundred thousand new people not paying their mortgages? Really? Does that make sense to you? Foreclosures have always happened and even the large increase we've had shouldn't have caused this collapse. I think you need to brush up on your history. Banks used to only be able to lend $12 for every $1 they held in deposits. Someone lobbied the SEC to increase that ratio to $40 or $50 for every $1. At the time he was the head of Goldman Sachs. Now he's in charge of undoing the mess he created. That man's name? Henry Paulson. One of the banks that would have failed if the fed had not stepped in? Goldman Sachs. Coincidence? Doubtful. Give credit where credit is due... Republicans know how to screw you coming and going.

I was raised a Democrat. Mom, Dad, Grandma & Grandpa everyone was a Democrat. Then I grew up and was born again. Now I vote Christian. The candidate who has Godly values and believes in them is my candidate. Barack Obama says he is a Christian but doesn't stand for Godly values. Matthew 12:30 Jesus says He that is not with Me is against Me. You can't ride the fence. You are either for God or against God. I am amazed at all of the "Christians" who are voting for Obama. I think you are lining up on the wrong side. Anyone who says it is ok to kill a baby is not on God's side. You can call yourself a Christian but it is what is in your heart that makes you one. God does not look at the outward appearance but at the heart. Dr. Martin Luther King said not to look at the color of a man's skin but the content of his character. Obama's character leaves a lot to be desired. His friends are criminal, racist, and terrorists. Is this the character of we want in a President? The choice is ours.

Just like a democrat, hides who he/she is, get's the facts wrong, ignores Obama's own glaring problems of associating with an unrepentant terrorist, sitting in a church for 20 years listenening to his racist pastor spew hate, writing books claiming that the muslim view should be considered and all the while thinking he/she is so smart by driving to FT Wayne to mail it to their neighbor.

Posted by: Erin Location: C on Oct 15, 2008 at 06:51 PM
I think whoever sent it was an idiot, but I know most democrats are reasonable people. This person is just an idiot, and we should ignore him. To those who think this was a Republican ploy, grow up. If you just blindly blame the other side, we'll never get anywhere. You wonder why we're so polarized we're about ready to implode? That's why. So instead of spending our resources blaming the other side, let's actually accomplish something and WORK TOGETHER. In the end we ALL want the same thing....better health care, a better economy, better education, our brave troops home, etc. We just have different means about accomplishing those goals. Just please to each other for a change. That's REAL change.

Posted by: Amanda Location: Fort Wayne on Oct 15, 2008 at 06:21 PM
And to think that the democrats don't want us looking into the personal life of Barack Obama. The public is to overlook Sen. Obamas ties to Bill Ayres, Fr. Fleger, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, etc. Who exactly is hypocritic? And to think that an adult would call a child a whore is abhorrant.

Posted by: Jessica Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 06:04 PM
There is little difference between some of the comments that are posted here and the letter that was sent. Suggesting that someone shoot her/his self because you dislike a comment they have posted? That is uncivilized at best. Why does anonymity turn all these internet discussions into intellectual cess pools? Yes, most Republicans are hypocrites. Frankly, I think the letter writer was spot on. However, committing what basically amounts to a hate crime (harassing someone for their political views) is equally hypocritical. When Republicans spew their hatred, I just smile, nod, and move on with my day as a happy, LIBERAL woman. I have better things to do than argue with zealots. The letter-writer (their party affiliation has not been established, by the way) wasted her/his time, and ended up sounding as stupid as the people she/he is arguing against.

I have contacted The GOP and I will be displaying a McCain-Palin sign in my front yard, IF by chance the person who sent these letters would like they can come right up to me and personally hand it to me

Neocon republicans make me sick. First time every you guys try to de Americanize a presidential candidate it makes me think why? and you people know why? just go to any McCain rally and hear people call him terrorist and even kill him. I think most of you are voting against him because of the color of his skin. I was at a local store with a friend who had on an Obama t shirt can you believe she asked us if we were even allowed to vote. we told the old lady no I must first get permission from my master.

McCain and Palin is a train wreck waiting to happen. She is about as intelligant as a rock. Her dameanor is bone cringing and so is McInsane. You all think this country is on a down ward spiral now put them in office and see what happens

Posted by: Jon Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 05:32 PM
To Angie: And McCain does not tell you what you want to hear. Its politics 101 and do not act like one does something and the other does not. Those that do not help themselves, easy to say when you probably grew up in a loving environment. Try helping yourself when you are abused sexually, neglected, and abused physically. As we have seen after 8 years, America and Americans need more community and not less. I am assuming you make over 250,000 other wise you will be receiving a tax cut, is that not what the right has railed about constantly for years now. The economy is terrible, our communities are hurting, jobs have left to over seas, we are losing two wars, the deficit is higher than ever, cost of living has gone up the highest since Jimmy Carter, our infrastructure is in shambles, health care not fixed, education not fixed, unemployment the highest since Bush Sr., 401k wiped out, house values dropping, energy costs sky rocketing, need I say more....

I know that this letter is meant to intimidate the Republicans, like me,guess what I am STILL voting for McCain-Palin. I do have ONE question that I would like answered by ANY Democrat... Where is Obama getting all the monies to pay for his OWN channel on Dish and Cable TV, running constantly 7 days a week 24 hours a day, commercials are VERY expensive,I don't even want to think where he is getting the money for his own channel, so please any of you Democrats if you are educated enough, please inform the rest of us where he is getting all the multi millions to pay for this. Thank you

I don't think it matters if your 10 years old or 30, half of the people in this country haven't taken the time to actually listen to anything to know what either canidate is saying. I overheard a a man that looked to be in his late 50's say that he supported Obama because he is pro-life! Now explain to me how that makes sense? Wait it doesn't. I mean vote for who you want but at least do your homework and know the issues before you vote. I think Obama is to set in his opinions to be a good president i think on the other hand McCain might do a better job representing the people. You know the whole by the people for the people thing. McCain just just seems to be more flexible. And i don't want to see us pull out of Iraq until its done. That would be like crapping on the graves of the people who died and saying they died for nothing

This is uncalled for. My politics and yours may differ. Let's just all vote Nov. 4th and live peacefully.

A couple of weeks ago, two women came to my door from the Obama campaign and got very rude when I simply told them I was not interested. I am still in the air on the politics but if I would have had to make a decision based on that experience, Obama would not have gotten any vote from me.

Posted by: Penn mom Location: Mishawaka on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:48 PM
I applaude the author of the letter for having the b*lls to do so. However, I wouldn't have done so. Keep it in your own clique. I am voting for Obama because of the strength he can bring to our country. I'm sure there's dirt on Obama, but hmmmmm. Where is it? I don't want my country in the hands of someone who has anger issues, "just barely made it", or a "Hockey Mom" with a rifle and 5 kids who need her more than the country does. Obviously she wasn't there to prevent her teenage daughter from getting knocked up. Let the Democrats fix the country....PLEASE!? Democrat or Republican-do you people REALLY think someone would put their name on it? Was there a signature card at the entrance to the Pentagon or WTC on 9/11?....Love, Saddam and Bin Laden. Yeah, right.

Everybody should tune into the issues, not get all worked up about all the negativity. Remember, not long ago, a black man was thought of as 4/5 of a person. Now, a very articulate man of mixed race is in the hunt for the office. Think about that, you're living history! Vote for the candidate you like, but reflect how far we've come in 50 years. Let's hope this will be a great time of change and progress,.. do we ever need it!!!! O in '08!

Posted by: Mark Location: St. Joseph, Mi. on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:27 PM
Sounds more like a "Republican" ploy to scare folks. Either they want to paint Dem's as angry extremists or draw attention away from the state of the country. To the true Republicans-you were duped! Now you, along with us working class Democrats, Independents, and so on, are going to have to pay for it. 700 billion is just a start. Remember the Lehman executives made sure they got their money first, before asking for a bailout. Vote as you wish, it's your right. But take time to see who got you where your at now. The answer may not be as apparent.

Posted by: Bonnie Location: Michiana on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:24 PM
Sounds to me like you need to get handwriting experts on the persons receiving the letter. I think it is just another tactic on the part of desperation by McCain/Palin. I don't put anything past them and their negative campaign practices.

This is exactly why we will not put out any signs in our yard. Isn't it a terrible shame that this election has taken such a shameful turn where we can't even express our views without being targeted by such insanity. I was told this by a very wise man that we might want to vote for the one who promises the least and then we won't have to be disappointed. It is, totally, disgusting to me as to how all of this is going. That is why we will not discuss politics with anyone(and that includes our family. We try to listen to everyone(like CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. We are so looking forward to the Debate tonight We are independent and, most likely, will not make a final decision until the day before November 4th. I just hope & pray that this Nation will come together, regardless of who will be voted in as our next President May God Bless America and All Of Us and help us and guide us to help this Nation get back on the right road. Thanx

this is a terrible thing to happen to any one no matter which candidate you choose to endorse. but the comments on this website is just as mean spirited as the individuals who sent those nasty letters.

Sorry not everyone supports Obama. He always talks about wanting "change." What "change" is he talking about anyway? He never really mentions what he'll do differently to make this country a better place. I can't believe people would be stupid enough to even waste time out of their lives writing letters like that. GO MCCAIN. :)

Liberals Suck: Democrats don't raise taxes, hu? Funny, only real business men (Republicans) know how to create wealth within a community by doing other things besides raising taxes. Regardless, this is still kind of funny to me since the coward would not put their name or address on the envelope.... oh wait, the person probably doesn’t have an address to put since they are a democrat in a low tax bracket looking for handouts... my bad.

Posted by: Paul Location: Mishawaka on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:52 PM
so Obama supporter thinks Palin is inexperienced and naive? I'd rather have an inexperienced and naive vice president than President.......especially one who thinks that sitting down to talk with terrorists without condition is a good idea. Neville Chamberlain, anyone?

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:45 PM
Greg the truth of the financial problem the country is experiencing can be directly linked to the Clinton Administration. A quote from the Sepetember 30,1999 New York Times "Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomental growth in profits". I would encourage you to look up the article "Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending" by Steven A. Holmes. I beleive you owe the Bush Administration an apology. Thank You!

I agree with Anonymous @ 8:44am. EVIL, Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing! It's funny how often I'm hearing that lately! Hopefully people everywhere will wake up and realize this! He tells you exactly what you want to hear so you'll vote for him! If it sounds too good to be true it probably is! Question is, will he do what he promises IF he gets to office? Hope we don't get a chance to find out! He bashs McCain left and right, I particularly like the one about taxing health benefits. Personally I think health coverage is a privilege not a right anyway, but who do you think is going to pay for his(Obama's) plan(for EVERYONE to have health cov.) THE TAXPAYERS. Quite frankly I'm tired of helping people who won't help themselves! Before you vote, look at the facts and remember the President doesn't make all the decisions! And don't just vote for him because what he says sounds good or because you're a diehard Democrat! McCain/Palin 2008!!

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:36 PM
I disagree, Anonymous at 12:38PM, Palin is indeed supporting your so-called "Republican family values issue" by not encouraging her teenage daughter to get an abortion. And it is not a "fact", as you claim, that she "is completely unqualified to be a leader of this country"; she is already the elected leader of the (geographically) largest state in the union, and meets the citizenship and age requirements for the office of the President. So separate your facts from opinion if you would like us to take you seriously; you started off making some good points which soon unraveled due to your partisan rhetoric.

What a low, cowardly, no integrity having, cant say it to your face slime ball. If your looking to take shots at people you should make them face to face. If this chump was a OBama supporter then they should have politely knocked on the door and expressed the Obama case. Not attack these people for standing up for thier candidate. Things like this are reason enough for me to also support McCain Palin.

Posted by: JIm Location: St Joe on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:24 PM
I have to agree with a lot of you. I think you should have to be smart enough to at least graduate high school to be eligible to vote. Just because you're old enough doesn't mean you're smart enough to make these kinds of decisions. From some of the mentality I see here, most shouldn't have the right.

Why is it that the majority of Republicans that comment here have excellent spelling and vocabulary skills compared to the Democrats who cannot spell (even when this box has a spell checker that underlines misspelled words) or compose a simple sentence. It would be interesting to see the average IQ of those voting for Obama compared to those voting for McCain. Even though the majority of academia leans to the left they cannot possibly bring up the average IQ of the rest of the "nasty letter writing" liberal illiterates who follow the liberal media and Obama like sheep.

This is one election that scares me. You have people voting for a candidate, because they feel that god has sent him. Other ones praying that he will win. Of course I am talking about Obama. The way you idiots talk about him as if he is the second coming of Christ. He is a plain crook from the Windy City. You do not get anywhere in Illinois politics without the endorsement of the Daley machine. Illinois and Chi town has had more corruption, that makes NIxon look like a saint.

Why display signs anyway? I think it's an open door for this kind of crap. I was always taught that you keep your political views private anyway, and if you want to display who you support you better be ready to argue. And how are you going to argue views about any political figure??--They're all liars, they just tell us what we want to hear, and BOTH sides bash on each other.

[So this is different from what in today's society?] her son being addicted to a drug? given the choice of joining the military or jail time? what a courageous and brave response, Sara. good for you. the sentence to nowhere? what are you a complete moron? the woman has an 80% approval rate in the state of alaska. need more be said about that? lastly and MOST importantly: Mcain may have graduated 894 out of 899 from the naval academy, but do you think nobama has the guts our courage to do so? Now, the DNC has been running negative ads, which McCain deserves. If you throw enough crap at me, I'll throw some back.

I've always supported Republicans but I must say that it's the Republican National Committee who is posting negative comments on Obama! McCain and Palin are exactly what we DON'T need in the White House! Both endorse horrific spending ideas that will pad their pockets as well as many other things. Palin has hardly any experience with foreign affairs-do we really want some naive person(s) in the White House? I for one, don't! I'll just agree with one of the other comments-Obama/Biden will win by a landslide! At least with the debates he's more mature than McCain is!

Posted by: Harry Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Anonymous - talk about ignorant. How do you know if your candidate wasn't involved? Have you listened to his 'attack-ads', that run every twenty minutes on the TV stations? Palin is no less qualified than Obama is to lead this Country. Your guy has got a 'smoke-and-mirrors' past and he seems to change it periodically, whenever it's convenient for him. Since when have the democrats addressed an issue truthfully. Remember Billy-boys famous, "I never had sex with that woman". Talk about some serious personal issues. If you think that republicans are so bad, why are you afraid to use your real name when you post a comment. No nads?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 12:38 PM
First of all, this letter was the extreme expression of displeasure by one voter, not by all Democrats. Second, Obama, nor his strategists, personally had anything to do with this person's viewpoint. He is running a good campaign that is trying to address the real issues. Third, although the letter is extreme, the letter does not threaten anyone. Beside the fact that she is completely unqualified to be a leader of this country, Palin clearly has a lot of personal issues that would seemingly not support the Republican "family values" issue. The fact that Republicans are unwilling to truthfully address this issue is ignorant.

Not endorsing the behaivor but the reactions are typical. Look at LB - "If I find out who you is, I is going to shoot you cause you don't think like me." These are the sad individuals who feel so threatened by differing opinions that their first instinct is to kill the person who disagrees. Look in the mirror LB and find out what it is about you that has turned you into such a bitter disgrace. And then ask yourself if maybe you're doing your own hiding since making threats of murder is against the law. Thank God Obama / Biden will get that landslide victory that's being predicted by almost everybody and start healing the riffs caused by eight years of ridiculous head in the sand politics.

Posted by: Anarchology Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 11:27 AM
I agree with No Suprise on this one. Obama has spent all his time bashing McCain on everything he can find rather than focus on the issues. His way of getting elected is through kindergarten comments towards the runner up. Notice Obama's commercials, McCain does this McCain does that McCain is bad McCain is a big fat stinky poo poo head. Grow up already, if you want to be elected give me a REASON to elect you, not comments directed towards the ill health of your opposer. So now here in South Bend we have ignorant people sending mail of distatse anonymously. How cowardly they are, thats Obama, hiding behind an incognito, hiding behind his followers who conceal their faces in darkness. Completely pathetic if you ask me.

It is just a shorter term for "being fair to the less fortunate and not being so greedy."

I too will vote for the recycle man. I will not give the ANY of the people in office another chance at me and my family. They have done enough to us. Not for us, TO us. Maybe it is time for term limits on all politicians so they actually would see what it's loike in the real world. They talk a good line but no action. Forget about the financial mess, remember the 4 dollar a gallon gas that they supposedly worked on to catch the gougers. What happened to that? Try to remember all they did for us when you go to the polls. Vote responsibly. Don't vote just becasuse you're Republican or Democrat, or black, or whatever. THINK FOR YOURSELF.

Of course the letter is hateful, but both sides of this political debate have been engaging in hateful speech for weeks. Most of the worst can be found on line, in just about any political forum. Why are we surprised that the nasty speech so common on the internet has spilled over into written communication? Anonymity seems to give some people the courage to voice their most hateful inner thoughts -- for example, check out the comment below from "LB" who threatens to "fry" and/or shoot whoever wrote the letter. Irony, anyone?

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Oct 15, 2008 at 10:39 AM
I was inclined to agree with Dustin that this was a misguided Republican ploy - until I read the letter. It captures the liberal mindset and talking points too well to be a fake. Also, I agree with Anon's comment regarding the headline of the article. At first glance, you'd think that it was McCain-Palin supporters who were getting nasty. Interesting choice of words, WNDU.

Posted by: Kolin Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 10:32 AM
After reading the actual letter it seems clear the writer is angry and frustrated. I can't say that I blame him. If I were as solidly Democrat as the author I would be frustrated by the situation too. Given the current President's popularity rating and the sate of the economy (regardless of who's at 'fault' for the downturn), the Republican candidate shouldn't have a chance to win this election. Turns out his chances are pretty good. I think we can expect to see a lot more angry and frustrated Democrats lashing out.

I JUST READ THE LETTER - BOY DOES THIS ONE HAVE ISSUES. AS USUAL, SOME IDIOT HAS GO ALL OF YOU SNIPING AT EACH OTHER. LOOKS LIKE THEY GOT WHAT THEY WANTED. ATTENTION. JUST LIKE A 6 YEAR OLD THROWING A FIT, IT SHOULD JUST BE IGNORED. OR MAYBE GO WORK FOR ACORN AND REGISTER PEOPLE TO VOTE 10 TIMES EACH......SORRY, HAD TO THROW THAT IN.

How shameful to write such a nasty, immature letter to people. Doesn't the sender realize that you are supposed to say nasty, immature things on internet forums!?

Posted by: MAtt on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:59 AM
1. Abortion is 110% worng. 2. Who ever did this has mental issues. 3. Bad title, I thought the republicans were the ones getting nasty. I should have know better. 4. Another reason we dont want Obama! A bunch of hooligans runnin around causing trouble!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:44 AM
The liberal left wing needs to see Obama for what he really is...EVIL! If he is elected we are ALL in trouble! I think maybe this poor soul who is doing this is just sore that Barack is going to LOSE!

Posted by: Brad Location: Niles on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:30 AM
NOT SURPRISED: The comment "you can't put lipstick on a pig" was a reference to McCain's idea's and proposal’s, meaning you can't take a bad idea make a few changes and make it good or acceptable. It had absolutely nothing to do with Sarah Palin; how ANYONE drew that conclusion is beyond me. You like many others either did not hear the WHOLE statement or are extremely ignorant. This however does not excuse the person that wrote the letters, FREE SPEECH means EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion whether you, anyone or I agree! Political parties need to end; I choose people based on their character and qualities not their affiliations.

I applaud WNDU for posting this letter. It is about time the media showed what these Obamabots are about. To Tom Location: Centreville, apparently you have been asleep for the past few years. The democrat congress, with it's corrupt & lazy Pelosi and Reid and their cronies are just as much to blame,if not more so. They have blocked every attempt to make any headway and try to blame it on the Republicans. They don't want the corruption in congress to get cleaned up anymore than Obama does because they are in it up to their necks. It is too bad Obama supporters can't see what Obama is really doing them. It is an old socialistic tactic ... BRAINWASHING and they don't even know it. Caution: Listening to Obama could be dangerous to your mental health!

Posted by: laughable on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:26 AM
To the coward who wrote the letter: I hope you know what an idiot you look like. And I sincerely hope they find out who you are. If you're so proud of your convictions you should have SIGNED YOUR NAME. To South Bend at 6:47 a.m.: Do you really think people are going to buy your line of "If you REALLY want to reduce the number of abortions - vote for a Democrat."?! You do not speak for republicans who the majority of are pro-life (nice try slanting their position though). Barack Obama is actively FOR Partial-Birth abortion, abortion in general (let's remember he wouldn't want anyone "punished" with a baby) and AGAINST providing lifesaving medical treatment to babies born to botched abortions. And his biggest regret of his career? Helping Terri Schiavo's fight for life. People need to wake up and see the kind of person we are dealing with in Barack Obama.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:20 AM
This is obviously a republican ploy. Its funny to see all the saps that buy into it though.

Posted by: lanadee Location: Elkhart on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:20 AM
The Democratic party plans to win the presidential election one way or another. This negativity and hate for anyone who disagrees with them comes from the partisan press coverage of the election. The major networks sing the praises of the Obama ticket and plan to win the election for him. At the same time they are disrespectful, unkind and untruthful to McCain and Palin. The networks either misreport or forget to report the facts all together. It is time the networks return to REPORTING the news, ALL the news. And cease from trying to MAKE the news or sway the election.

Posted by: TJ Location: Goshen on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:16 AM
Abortion isn't even a issue this election...regardless of idealology on this subject...it will not be a deciding factor at all...matter of fact ...the Presidential election is all but over..welcome President OBama!

I read the letter that WNDU published saying that this is the letter sent to these people. It surely wasn't sent by the Democratic Party. This letter was written by some wacko and should be investigated for intimidation. Does that person who sent the letter really believe he is going to change a voters position. It possibly could have been sent by a Republican trying to smear the Democratic Party. The mailman said he delivered approx. 8 letters. I guess this wacko must have ran out of stamp money.

Hey, Dustin. I think RICO is looking for you. It's something about ACORN.

I am a Democrat and even though i don't care for McCain or Palin just like the negitive campaign adds, this person is sick. I don't listen to the negitive adds because it is what i conceder Bad politics. All you need do is show how your going to help this country if your elected. It is everyones wright to Vote or believe in what they want. I Don't care what their "past" or "background" is If they demonstrate they are capable of doing their job, then they are worthy of being in that position. Remember what the late President Kennedy said, "Ask Not what your country can do for you But what you can do for your Country. So letter writer next time if you want to express yourself back it up and SIGN Your Name.

What a great way to show your support for your party! I'm suppose to agree with someone who is ignorant and direspectful enough to go around sending disturbing letters to the opposite supporters, do you really think that is helping your cause? I'm not sure if you should be voting for Obama or Hitler...this is a free country and those people have the RIGHT, to place whatever sign they want in there yard with out any fear. Maybe someone should send you a letter explaining freedom of speech! McCain-Palin 2008!

Posted by: Pam Location: Warsaw on Oct 15, 2008 at 08:43 AM
While everything in the letter is true, I think the action, of sending these letters, is terrible. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion and to support their candidate. Contrary to some of the comments left here, not all liberals are the enemy. The partisanship of the last 7 1/2 years has got to stop if we are going to solve the important issues that we face; the financial meltdown, alternative energy sources, bringing our brave soldiers home, protecting our country from REAL terrorists, and restoring our good name around the world. This person was probably sick of the attacks of the McCain/Palin campaign and struck back in a most improper way.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Goshen on Oct 15, 2008 at 08:39 AM
Don't blame Obama supporters or liberals for this idiot. He/She says nothing about Obama, just makes an incredibly shallow and poorly written arguement against McCain/Palin. More likely he's a fan of the Libertarians......

Posted by: SuZ on Oct 15, 2008 at 08:36 AM
Whether you are a Republican or Democrat, and whether you support McCain or Obama, last I knew it was our right to vote for whoever we wanted. The person who wrote the letter should mind his or her own business! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if you (the person who wrote the letter) do not agree with it.

Posted by: Geeze Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 08:31 AM
To South Bend at 7:47 a.m. you are a looney toon or maybe you just have a guilty conscious?

Posted by: Cathy Location: Buchanan on Oct 15, 2008 at 08:29 AM
I think that who ever wrote that letter should keep their mouth shut. Just because Sarah's daughter is pregnant has nothing to do with her ability to be VP. I was 17 teen when I got pregnant and have been married to the father for 38 years. So what does that have to do with anything. You have people that get married and then have kids and end up divorced after a couple of years.I have a McCain/Palin sign in my front lawn and will keep it there. I'm proud of it. It's a free country I think so vote for who you want. The person that wrote the letter and did not give there name must have something to hide. People like that are really scared to be known. Remember that the only person that is perfect is GOD and let him be the judge of what ofther people do not you. Maybe the person that wrote the letter is a afraid that the best person will win the election.

This is EXACTLY what liberals stand for. TOLERANCE! We should tolerate them and their views, but they have no tolerance for what conservatives believe in. We have Barak Hussein Obama (remember, that is his real name) who pals around with terrorist, and we should tolerate this. He sits in Rev. Wrights church for 20 years, and says he didn't know he was a racist, and we should tolerate this. Dustin gets irate and goes off the deep end and tells us that we need to quit listening to talk radio and we should tolerate this. Dustin also seems to know that the letter writer probably doesn't even vote. Maybe Dustin is the one who sent this hate mail? It looks to me that the liberals and Dustin are so opened minded, that their brains fell out. Once again they need to practice the tolerance that they preach!

Posted by: Mike on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:59 AM
As this story unfolds, so does the menatlity of the typical Obama supporter: It's all 'woe is me,' for the government hasn't helped me get this or that, but my Republican (hard-working and honest) neighbor has this and that, so I should hate my neighbor and vote for someone who'll promise me this and that if I do. Then maybe I can get what I want.

Posted by: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:47 AM
Two facts: Number 1: It is not that Republicans don't believe in abortion - it is they don’t want the government to pay for it. I am old enough to remember when abortion became legal ant THAT was the issue. Number 2: Are you ready for this one ????? There are more abortions performed during a Republican administration than a Democratic administration. Soooo…… If you REALLY want to reduce the number of abortions - vote for a Democrat.

Posted by: Conservative Male Location: South Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:42 AM
This is expected to happen from some liberal loon. Once again, the left preaches how they are for free speech...except for when they don't agree with it. They are notorious for defacing yard signs and shouting down those that have different views.....How about that for hypocricy? I'm not ready to turn our country over to someone that would rather "spread the wealth" than allow everyone to have the chance to be wealthy. Instead of sending some cowardly letter without your name on it, how about you knock on my door and we can talk (not yell) about our differences. If you would rather live in a socialist society (as Obama would have it), move to another country.

Posted by: Not Surprised on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:41 AM
This is how Obama is handling the campaign (lets not forget his pig-with-lipstick comments after Palin was selected as McCain's running mate). He attacks his opponents behind the cover of others and then when McCain or Palin try to say "anything" about him, he turns it into a racial thing. Maybe Obama should clear up the smoke in his head because his supporters follow his lead!

Posted by: Tom Location: Centreville on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:36 AM
To Liberals SUCK, I am overwhelmed by your persuasive and intelligent argument. (Pardon the dripping sarcasm) Really? Have you been awake for the last 7 ½ years? The Republicans in charge, the first 6 years with a republican led House and Senate, quite literally ran this country into the ground. But “liberals” don’t know how to run the country? Come on, the Republicans are losing because they abandoned the people and totally sold out to the concept of power and big money. I don’t blame only the Republicans for the current financial crisis, but I do blame them for the war that is costing us 10 billion dollars a month which has bankrupted the USA financially and morally. Oh, by the way, as far as the subject of the article goes, I think that the person who wrote those letters is childish and a coward.

Posted by: Tom Location: Osceola on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:25 AM
Great idea for the optional link to view the letter, WNDU. Reading it, instead of reading about it, gives us the chance to form our own opinions about this nutjob, and not just listen to yours. It's bad form to insult the recycling man.

Posted by: Dean VanHalen on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:18 AM
Yeah - I smell a rat. This smacks of the old Rove gutter fighting, swiftboating, arkansas project. You know, the kind of people that are shouting "kill him" (meaning Barack) at McCain rallies. Ahh the smell of desperation... it smells, like, victory...

Posted by: Myrt on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:07 AM
I agree with Dustin - it this news??? Why give this coward attention??? I would consider it news ONLY IF the authorities arrested this person for intimidation. That would be newsworthy.

Posted by: LB Location: Bend on Oct 15, 2008 at 07:01 AM
Fry the person who sent those letters. They do not deserve to tbe an American. If us McCain/Palin supporters ever find out who you are, we are coming after you. I am an NRA member just like Palin and I ain't afraid to shoot.

bad title! Most people will read it as: "Some South Bend McCain-Palin supporters get nasty..." Only after reading it will one figure out their mistake.

Liberal Suck: Hey, put down the Ann Coulter book and turn off AM 960 for a while. The people who sent these letters probably do not even vote. Maybe these letters were sent by someone sympathetic to McCain-Palin in a misguided effort to deflect from the stories of hate speech and threats of violence against Obama at McCain-Palin rallies. Whoever sent them should, and will likely, get a visit from their local FBI field office for sending such threats through the mail. *To WNDU: what can possibly be gained by publishing the letters on your website? Sensational journalism at it's worst.

Posted by: Al on Oct 15, 2008 at 03:31 AM

Posted by: H Location: Niles on Oct 15, 2008 at 12:34 AM
I am proud to be a Democrat, but this is the wrong way to go about things. Yes, I would never vote for John McCain/Sarah Palin, but I would not send hate mail to anyone who supports them. Why? Because this is America and people are FREE to vote for who they want based on their own beliefs. They are also FREE to voice their own opinions and while there are some interesting points in the letter, why not announce those in a type of open forum where people aren't feeling threatened? My point is this, you vote for who you feel will do better by you and I'll vote for who I believe will do better by me, but don't intimidate people who don't feel the same way you do because in the end you end up no better than the person you're trying to belittle.

Posted by: Linda Location: Middlebury on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:56 PM

Dont let this idiot bully you this is america and you have the right to vote any way you please. To bad there arent laws against stupid people. But then again the jails really would be over crowded.

This is what Liberalism is all about, attacking the Republicans at every corner of the country! They suck, they whine and they don't know how to run the country at all. They raise taxes, don't care about the Unborn, don't care about Iraq and Saddam and don't care about terrorism in general. I hope the Messiah loses and McCain wins, that's how it should be now that they did this to our supporters!!
