Harvest for the Hungry to help Michiana families
South Bend Tough times hit food banks especially hard. That's why WNDU is holding an event during Newscenter 16 Saturday morning to raise money and collect food donations for Michiana families.

The phone seems to be ringing more than usual at Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
That also means more foot traffic in the pantry.
"The need is greatly increasing as this economic situation continues to unfold," said Lisa Jaworski, director of Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
Also, a more diverse group of people seems to be coming in for food.
"They are people who just can't make ends meet. They cannot make their mortgage payments, and pay their utility bills, and put gasoline in the car to look for a job and buy food," said Darlene Scates, pantry coordinator at Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
"Unfortunately, we can't give them as much help as we'd like to," she added.
If you want to help, please come by on Saturday morning from 7 to 10 a.m. at one of these locations:
WNDU parking lot, 54516 SR 933, South Bend
Food Bank of Northern Indiana, 702 S. Chapin Street, South Bend
Fun Tan in Granger Station, 12980 State Road 23, Granger
Some of the best food items include protein--like peanut butter, tuna, beans or items with cheese. But if you want to help in the most efficient way, you can donate money. For every dollar you donate, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana can buy roughly eight dollars worth of food.
