2nd goal line stand secures undefeated season for Irish

After beating Stanford midway thru the season with a tremendous goal line stand in overtime, #1 Notre Dame did it again Saturday night to secure a 22-13 win over USC in Los Angeles.

This victory sends the Irish to the national championship game on January 7th against either Alabama or Georgia. Notre Dame is 12-0 and its defense is a major reason why.

"Unbelievable goal line stand," said Irish coach Brian Kelly after the game.

With Notre Dame up nine in the 4th quarter, USC drove down inside the Notre Dame 5 and had a 1st and goal at the 2. But instead of punching it in for the touchdown--the Trojans moved backwards and turned it over on downs as Notre Dame made another goal line stand.

"It's awesome," says senior captain and defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore. "If you put the ball down and there is time on the clock--we're going battle. We're not going to give up. This team--especially the defense--we have a lot of character, a lot of guys that play hard. They play hard and they play with heart."

"We had a dream and we put in the work to make sure that dream comes true," captain and linebacker Manti Te'o added. "Now we have to put in the work to make sure we put in the work to prepare ourselves for the national championship."
