A four-month-old baby has died and another child is in critical condition after they were both found trapped inside hot cars.

Both incidents happened near Indianapolis this afternoon, where temperatures reached 105 degrees.

In the town of Fishers, police were called to a store parking lot when someone reported seeing a child locked inside an SUV.

They broke the window to rescue the 16-month-old girl.

Police say the temperature inside was 124 degrees.

"This is a very dangerous situation,” said Tom Weger of the Fishers Police Department. ”People have got to use common sense and know that you cannot have a child inside a locked car with the temperature being a hundred plus degrees outside."

The little girl was taken to the hospital after suffering seizures.

The mother, 30-year-old Meg Trueblood, was arrested and charged with neglect.

Meantime, police in Greenfield, about 25 miles west of Indy, say it appears the four-month-old baby who died had been left in the car for "an extended period of time."

Her father, Joshua Stryzinski, 18, is now facing charges.
