29th Annual Mishawaka Summerfest started Friday afternoon

Despite an ongoing burn ban in Mishawaka, there will still be fireworks at this year's Summerfest. Friday afternoon food vendors and inflatable games were set up at Merrifield Park in Mishawaka.

This is the 29th year for the festival which will feature entertainment both Friday and Saturday. Friday night there will be local and regional bands starting at 6:30 until the fireworks show. Anyone can catch the show sitting close to the park's north side.

“We met with the Fire Chief Thursday and they are watering down the area Thursday and continuing into Friday afternoon. We have several trucks on standby we don't think there are going to be any issues. We are going to reroute fireworks they will go over the river, but we've taken extra precaution so there are no incidents that occur,” says Carmen Carpenter of the Mishawaka Summerfest.

Something new this year, there is a beverage garden at the Merrifield Park Ice Rink Friday night and Saturday evening.
