After a bump in the road on Monday with mother nature stalling the Republican National Convention, local supporters say it ended with a bang after both Palin and McCain’s speeches.

St. Joe County Republicans got together Thursday night at the local headquarters to continue talking about Palin’s speech a day later. They say the “co-pilot’s” speech fired them up and really emphasized what Republicans stand for.

Caitlin Sullivan says, “ I think she did an excellent job highlighting her roles when she was mayor and now the Governor of Alaska and how she turned around Alaska’s economy. I think she really did steal the show.”

Jack Flock says, “I really like the fact she stood up and said she was proud to be from small town America. The key for Republicans tonight is to see how our “pilot” does.”

After watching McCain speak, Flock said “I think it’s two key things. One is on the economy. We’ve got a choice this year. It’s going to be about more government or more Washington. Solving some problems or whether people get to solve those problems. And it’s a reminder of with history - we’re one week away from the seven-year anniversary of 9/11 and it’s still a scary world out there and we want someone in charge who’s got experience to handle that war on terror.

McCain and his campaign are weak. Republicans I know you are unable to look at anything purely as an outsider like others can do, but when your boy spends more time trashing the other guy than telling me what he stands for, then I have question him. That goes both ways too. Then lies upon lies. Mis-information. McCain didnt know what kind of car he has or how many houses he owns. Seems like a person who is on top of everything, in the know so to say. A bit out of touch is more like it. If a family was hiring someone to watch their children, wouldnt you want them to tell the truth? Would you not want them in the interview to not try and decieve you? Would you not want to know about how good they really are for the job and not how bad the competition is? Political beliefs aside, do you not think that we as Americans deserve better than cheap political tactics and being taken for complete fools. The president is our countries babysitter, and I would not trust anyone who is deceptive.

Erin, how wonderfully bigoted of you; preaching "diversity" then prattling on about rednecks and white rich people. And if you think Obama is exemplary of Middle America, it is a good indication of how vacuous and easily manipulated you are.

Posted by: Erin Location: South Bend on Sep 13, 2008 at 10:11 PM
I'm sorry, but after seeing row after row of white people at the Republican convention in contrast to the delightfully diverse crowd at the Democratic convention, there is no doubt who will better represent ALL Americans, not just white, rich ones. I know, Sarah Palin does bring in some of the redneck crowd, but that does not quite equal all of America. Obama has his flaws, but I can more easily believe that he understands Middle America's important issues. I just cannot take eight more years of "I am rich and I want to do it my way regardless of who is hurts or kills in the process.” Even more amusing is McCain’s blatant use of Obama strategies. He mocks change and celebrity and then uses them as part of his campaign. (John, keep your eyes on own paper.) Also, what is up with Cindy McCain’s need to be four inches from her husband’s side at all times? Nancy Reagan ring a bell anyone? We need a break from the right and I will gladly be voting for Obama.

Well it's nice to see that the libs haven't changed their shrill whiny ways. McCain must have done something right with all the democrat caviling going on.

Posted by: Tom Location: Cincinnati on Sep 7, 2008 at 10:03 PM
1) Tony in Mishawaka got it right. 2) Palin got more executive experience her fist day as mayor than Obama's or Biden's careers combined. 3) Why does a professional journalist not see the redundancy in the phrase "seven-year anniversary"? Etymology, anyone?

Posted by: jw on Sep 7, 2008 at 04:43 PM
Ok, you guys win Lol. But i'm still voting for obama.

Posted by: Bill Location: Dark ages? on Sep 7, 2008 at 02:05 PM
JW- Obama has just as much experience what are you smoking? Seriously McCain has been in government 26 years Obama is a first run senator! McCain has 100 times more experience than Obama educate yourself please. Don't take the "shape of our Country" as grounds to not vote McCain, Bush was more experienced than Obama and look at the mistakes that have been made. You really want to put a freshmen in charge of our country? Sarah does has more experience running state and local government than Obama, Obama has never come up with a bill on his own accord. He has baby-backed bills that he had nothing to do with you can look that up these are facts! Obama is a superstar, all glory, look at me! All fluff, no depth. The economy is where it is because of market conditions has NOTHING to do with the president!! Actually, the bush economic plan has probably saved our country from a major recession. Gas prices are the major motivator of economic stability the entire world has the same issues.

Posted by: to JW on Sep 7, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Are you really that stupid? Forget President Bush, John McCain will stand on his own 2 feet. Are you so brain washed by the media and the Obama people that you can't see that the cheap shot tactic of trying to tie Senator McCain to an unpopular President is all they really have going for them? By the way when you do what is right for our country its not always popular. Now on the other hand Obama is more likened to running for Prom King which IS a popularity contest and takes no experience, which Obama has NONE. Saying Obama has as much experience as Senator McCain is like saying a drug dealer is as educated as a Pharmacists. WAKE UP! Use your head for something other than a hat rack!

Why does everyone think the pres runs the economy. Congress makes laws, pres only suggests policy to lawmakers. Hmmm maybe 8 yrs of repub pres isn't so bad because he did not control the economy. People who are totally clueless on how gov't works or the constitution should not be able to vote. I do think it's funny when you show the world your ignorance and post messages about how bush killed the econ, and mccain is just more bush, obama will fix everyones life on jan 20th and on the 21st, there will be no more money probs, foriegn probs, job education etc. Keep posting, I need some more laughs..

Posted by: rick on Sep 7, 2008 at 03:09 AM
the fat lady has sung. sarah palin has single handidly killed the GOP. thank you rupert murdoch and karl rove.

Posted by: jw Location: obama country on Sep 6, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Come on Bill. Are you telling me Palin is not a community organizer? Obama has just as much experience as Mccain. Mccain is to be commended for his devotion to his country, but that doesn't mean his experience is any better. This guy sided with bush on many occasions, and look where we are.Technically, to be president, i'm not so sure either side has enough experience to handle this country. But,i will continue to support obama. Considering the shape our country is in right now, i think the last 8 years was enough time for the republicans to "change" our economy. Do you really want a 70 year old man as our next president? With his running mate Sara Palin, do you think she has enough experience to run this country?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2008 at 09:47 PM
Hey JW WAKE UP! Stop following the rest of the democratic sheep, media included. Start thinking for yourself, if that's possible. The high unemployment and high gas prices STARTED 2 years ago when the democrats took over in Washington. President Bush actually lowered our taxes. Obama wants to raise our taxes and create more taxes to support the democratic give away programs. And don't forget that both Polosi and Obama want to tax our pensions and give it to the ones that were too lazy to work and earn a pension. There are so many holes in Obama's fantasy boat that it couldn't make it across the St Joe river without sinking. McCain and Palin in 08!!!!!

Posted by: Bill Location: Common Sense on Sep 6, 2008 at 12:54 PM
JW- what are you thinking, vacations? Look The O would have us with MORE taxes, Bush is a strong supporter of supply side economics as is McCain, and but for the troop surge, McCain and Bush differ on many issue's. McCain has the experience needed to put us back on track, and if you heard his speech McCain is NOT a supporter of War in general he even said he would do everything in his power to keep us out of war! Obama would not know what to do if a situation arose that warranted such action. You want to put in a community organizer in charge of the most complex country in the world! This is what you don't get on CNN, MSNBC it takes experience to run this country, Bush had hopes, like Obama, but as we have seen hopes can become big issues if you don't have the experience to tackle the problems that WILL come. And what does Bush have to do with oil prices? He lowered taxes dramatically! And high unemployment has nothing to do with Iraq, it's a slow economy, which is cyclical!

Posted by: jw Location: marshall county on Sep 6, 2008 at 08:26 AM
Bill, you need to wake up and look at what the republicans did the last 8 years. High unemployment, gas prices, taxes. What more are they going to do for us? We can't even afford to take vacations anymore. Yeah, let's go ahead and vote for Mccain, since he was a staunch supporter of "Good ol' George."OBAMA IN 08"

Posted by: NAN Location: Nappanee on Sep 6, 2008 at 06:20 AM
You know what's funny? You all think this is about who our next President will be and what they promise to do, but it doesn't really matter what party is elected. It's the big money that runs our country...runs our world. Everything else is just a front. They want us oppressed, want us to fear, want us divided. It's looks to me like it's working as it has in all years past.Time to rethink things! You want change? Start by thinking about this.

Posted by: Bill Location: Elkhart on Sep 5, 2008 at 11:40 PM
And for all you "change" lovers out there do you really believe Obama can do anything with change. Change is not always for the better, McCain is NOT Bush, if you want to know what he will do in Wash. go to his website it is all there waiting for you to read it. Oh wait you probably need a government official to come do that for you right? Or you will probably just turn on CNN, MSNBC, to get your info right? Obama would be a lot of nothing, steam he would make a great lobbyist! McCain/Palin 2008!!

Posted by: Terri Location: Indiana on Sep 5, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Ann---How dense can you be?The reason this country is suffering is because it has a Republican for a president!McCain/Palin feel the"same" as Bush. There is no logic in all of your questions.Where have you been the last eight(8)years?

Posted by: Bill Location: Rick is an idiot on Sep 5, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Rick what is your problem man? You rant and click, click, click your an idiot. Take your hate and republican bashing and eat a big one. You vote dem. be a good little "followar" and see where we are in 5 years, then you will really have something to complain about, high taxes, bigger government, less opportunity for the American spirit, oh but wait we will be out of Irak so everything will be o.k. Dang what was I thinking? Ya we get out of Irak and our little world will be perfect. Obama has never run so much as he does when he goes from position to position, surge works better than expected, but no the surge is not working? What is your answer Obama? No for me I want someone with experience that matters in Wash. I want values, pride in America, someone with strong sense of what is right and what should never be right! Obama is driven, but he is driving down a one way street the wrong way, you still want to follow him? Oh just get us out of Irak, clicking heals 3 times.....

Posted by: Terri Location: Indiana on Sep 5, 2008 at 11:18 PM
Judy---You are a mental case. You and your frame of mind is exactly why McCain selected this woman.

I am voting for McCain/Palin because I'm a woman, just like she is. I don't care about the economy, 100 years in Iraq, etc, all I can about is one of the candidates sharing my gender.

Posted by: rick on Sep 5, 2008 at 08:07 PM
did anybody else notice all the fidgiting, bored, clock watching, yawning and ready to pass out republicans standing in front of john mccain waiting for him to get to his checkers part of the speech so they could get out of there and do a little larry craiging? whuy are republican sex scandals with boys except for john mccain. i was a pow, you owe me the presidency. no we do not mr. mccain, you sir belong in the last century. dirty old man. cindy is a saint she told us so wearing a $300,000.00 outfit and she is not an elitist. well toots you are and i was offended at your self praise fest. get sarah before the people for some questions, otherwise she is a fake and a fraud. should have actually vetted your ticking bomb of a vp bomb. i hope the jail cels are nice in alaska.

palin: hillary is a whiner. palin, they got dirt on me, bad media, bad media, whine whine whine. hey i didn't drag the obviously pregnant unwed daughter into the public eye now did i? the libvs are evil and oboma is satan. the woman is on the cover of the enquirer. sarah palin is horrid. she shrieks hate at anyone who isn't part of the republican base and her type of christian. she wants to censor and ban books she doesn't like. love that cindy, i have loved him since that day 30 years ago when he dumped his wife to marry me because i was a hottie and had lots of money. hey how about sarah do some hard news sunday shows? what she isn't available for questions? only prepared texts and speeches. sarah palin doesn't pass the smell test and they are hiding her and using her only for divisive attacks. and thems the facts jack. did you know john mccain is an adulterer, i don't thinktaht can be stressed enough in light of past GOP actions.

Posted by: rick on Sep 5, 2008 at 07:55 PM
i love all the praise for miss unwed mother of an unwed mother and mr. adulter. didn't cindy look regal? wow she sure is no elitist, man she is the second coming of princess diana. cindy, not sarah. sarah is just another person who claims great moral standiung and is in reality nothing but a girl who got knocked up had to get married and now has a daughter that got knocked up and has to get married. the mother wants abstinence only sex education and thinks dinosaurs lived 4,000 years ago. cindy mccain wore a $300,000.00 outfit swo she could tell america that she was a saint and that her husband who she cheated on with while he was still married to his now 70 year old ex wife. my husband john was a pow you owe it to him, he's 72 he doesn't have forever.

What a happy cheery wonderful load of false propoganda. McCain is going to sprinkle us with magical fairy dust and lower are taxes, empower us to hold are schools accountable, fight the war on terror in the wrong country, wish us some jobs, cut the fat in washington, guns for all, obortions for none and these morons eat it up. McCain and W have had there chance and all they have done is alienate us from former allies like russia, germany france and all of the opec nations. During this admistration the oil companies have been allowed to price gauge this country into recession un checked. Blaming higher prices on everthing from increased consumption in china, katrina and bill clinton that's a new one blame bill again. Economy and Jobs should have been issuse 4 years ago but bush supporters are so oblivious to reality they didn't know it then. Somehow the majority of the people will end up voting for this grinch like creature for a McSame continuation of the bush channey ara.

After 45 years of voting straight Democratic, I have repudiated that party and will vote Republican/Independent in all future elections. For 38 years the party of FDR, JFK and Truman has been taken over by a weird assortment of strange characters with a god-less platform and anti-American agenda. The great Dems of past years would be ashamed. The emergence of Sarah Palin on the national scene is a breath of fresh air and gives me hope that America will come to its senses and return to the decency and values of of the pre-1960s. Governor Palin stands miles above the current Democratic candidates and their negative messages of entitlement, special rights, modern(evil) institutions. God has given us a decent candidate and another chance to reject our wrongful path. Don't reject McCain/Palin voters! The handwriting is on the wall.

How long has J. McCain been married to Cindy. Are any of the 7 children hers?

Posted by: Ann Location: Elkhart on Sep 5, 2008 at 04:47 PM
McCain/Palin were fantastic! They will keep America on the offense which means safety for our country. That means a better economy! No one is going to invest in a country that gets blown up by its enemies. You want a strong economy - you'd better have a strong country. You want to keep your job - you'd better have a safe country. You want more money in your pocket - you better elect someone who doesn't believe in bigger taxes and bigger government. You want medical care - you better choose the candidate that wont stand between you and your doctor. You want affordable electric and gas - you better elect a candidate who will drill now. You want to be able to protect your home and your children - you better elect a candidate who will allow you the right to carry a weapon. Now, if you're only interested in your welfare check, killing babies, gay marriage, more taxes, larger dependence on foreign oil, bigger government, and oh well it wasn't me who got blown up - vote Democrat!

John McCain said he cannot wait to introduce her the Washington crowd. Wait until she goes looking for a home in the DC area, she will have to go all the way to West Virginia before she finds a trailer park to live in. Sorry, but the Washington DC crowd will never except her. The Soviet Union and China are asking themselves, "What the hell is a Hockey Mom?".

To Ms. Sullivan - You must work you're tails off over the next 2 months. We cannot afford to have Obama in the most important Office in this Country - if not the world. We need strong leadership and that is only going to come from Sen. John McCain and his running-mate. With Sen. McCain, we know we have an honest-to-goodness American-born man in the Whitehouse. Be ever vigilante and guard against the attacks from foreign-born individuals.

Republicans are kind of silent as far as comments go. . . I'd be interested to hear how they felt about the RNC. It seemed a bit of a missed opportunity to talk about the issues to me. (I'm independent.) Yes, John McCain is a war hero, yes, he wants to fight, fight, fight. . . but there are millions of other people who have served in USA's Armed Forces and they neither expect or receive the kind of acclaim that McCain seems to be courting. Come on, you did your JOB. Unfortunatly, I'd rather not allow Bush to have another 8 years. Just one opinion. . .

Posted by: M on Sep 5, 2008 at 11:55 AM
I guess we need someone to handle the "WAR ON TERROR" like Bush has for the past seven years. McCain has the same views as Bush and he will not be getting my vote. I have a cousin that has served THREE terms in Iraq. I thank God everyday for returning him safely to America. I feel for all of the lives lost as a result of PRIDE!

I'm so proud of the GOP in this election- I thought Palin was OUTSTANDING and McCain's speech was incredibly classy and patriotic. This morning, I heard Obama criticizing McCain for skirting the issues- I don't even think Barack listened to Mac's speech because John covered ALL the issues, impeccably. Obama and Biden seem to be throwing out unbased criticism, hoping people didn't actually hear Palin and McCain's speeches and would think for themselves. Nice try, fellas but Americans are capable of making our own decisions and forming our own opinions. We don't need Daddy Government to do everything for us. Go McCain/Palin!

Posted by: jw Location: marshall county on Sep 5, 2008 at 07:19 AM
Mccain has never did anything for this economy besides side with bush on everything. He never once said what his "PLAN" for the economy will entail. Just a bunch of promises. We are all tired of "promises". If he is so interested in helping the people, why didn't he start a long time ago? Typical republican promises. The last 8 years should show that. Sorry, but the only way "change is coming" is "Obama in 2008"!!!!

Posted by: saint clair Poindexter Location: South Bend on Sep 5, 2008 at 05:50 AM
John McCain is a liar. He cheated on his first wife. When he met Cindy he lied about his age. Now hes taken over Obamas Theme about change. What is he going to change? He would have to relearn all over again whats hes been doing for 26 years. Again hes a liar wanting people to feel sorry for his Vietnam experience.
