Man arrested for a string of local burglaries

Detectives from the St. Joseph and Berrien County Police Departments arrested a man at a South Bend inn for a series of burglaries in Indiana and Michigan.

A search warrant was served at the Royal Inn on State Road 2. Police say they found 36-year-old Edwin Brooks inside a room and arrested him on burglary charges.

Police tell NewsCenter16 they retrieved several items such as a flat screen TV, radios, DVD players and disks, and two guitars that were confirmed as stolen.

Police say this arrested wrapped up the investigation into ten unsolved burglaries in the area.

According to a police report, Brooks is no stranger to jail. St Joseph County Police say he has been booked into the county jail twelve times since 1990. Records show he has also seen prison time in Wisconsin as well as Indiana.

Brooks signed extradition pages and was transported to Michigan. Police say Brooks will be charged with several counts of burglary in both states.
