Westview's Ultimate Warrior Aspy has boys from Emma in Semi-State

For the first time since 2008, Westview is in playing in the boys basketball Semi-State. Senior Chandler Aspy is enjoying the ride.

"It's a crazy feeling," Aspy said this week as the Warriors prepared to face Cass. "I never would have expected this."

Aspy is the type of player that gives you everything.

"He's going to work hard, work for all the loose balls," fellow senior Damon Hersberger says. "He works hard down low. It's great to have a guy like that on the team."

"We really like to get emotional and give it everything we got," Aspy says. "It's a really great feeling when the crowd goes crazy and you can go crazy too."

With about two minutes left in last Saturday's Regional Semifinal game against Noll, Aspy caught an elbow above the eye and blood immediately began pouring out.

"Personally I liked it when the blood was running down his face... that looked real good," Coach Rob Yoder says with a big laugh. "That picture we're going to put in our locker room."

Aspy left the game briefly to get bandaged up. He had to change his shirt due to the blood and get his cut butterflied.

"I was sitting out in the hallway and I was going crazy and I was freaking out and I wanted to know what the score was and I was just ready to get back in there," Aspy explained.

Aspy was back within a minute and led Westview to a double overtime win.

"He was a warrior," Yoder said. "He just fought and scrapped, got bloodied up, taped it up and kept playing."

Now getting the chance to "keep playing" is all Aspy wants---because a couple more big shots this Saturday will send Westview to the State Finals.

"It would be unbelievable," Aspy said. "I don't know. its hard to describe the feeling."

Westview and Cass will tipoff at 4pm Saturday at Huntington North in the 2A Semi-State.
