Nappanee It was just about two months ago NewsCenter 16 introduced you to a group of people working hard to provide free meals to its community. Something Nappanee has never had before. After serving meals to, at times, 112 people in one night, things are changing.
The Nappanee Church of the Brethren joined forces with Faith Mission to provide free meals twice a week to their community. After seeing the need and having the support, they will now serve free meals four times a week.
Anyone can come in Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday from 5-6 p.m. at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren. The church is located at 301 Mack Drive in Nappanee.
The free walk-in meals coordinator Deborah Lehman says this isn’t a soup kitchen, this isn’t a food pantry, it’s a place anyone can come to get a good meal.
“We didn't want people to feel like they had to prove that they had low income or that they didn't have a job or they were in desperate needs. We wanted everyone just to come in and feel like this is just a free meal and sit down in fellowship with other people and get to know people inside the community,” Lehman explains.
Free meals will be offered this Thursday, March 6 from 5-6 p.m. Starting Monday, things will change to four days a week. Again, the church is located at 301 Mack Drive in Nappanee.
