2 injured in three car crash after one driver falls asleep

A crash that occurred Wednesday evening on US 33 West of CR 1 left two people with minor injuries.

The accident occurred when Daniel Matthews, 19, fell asleep at the wheel of his 2001 Ford Ranger while traveling East on US 33.

Matthews while sleeping, veered left of the center line and side swiped a 2004 Dodge Durango being driven by 56-year-old Charles Hall.

Matthews then continued to veer left and collided nearly head on with a 2010 Nissan Altima, which was being driven by 28-year-old Brock Burden.

All vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Matthews was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with lacerations to his face, arm and legs.

Burden suffered a broken leg and multiple lacerations. He was also transported to Elkhart General Hospital.
