An FBI task force in Benton Harbor has reopened a cold case involving a murder committed a decade ago.
24-year-old Jermaine Bland was shot and killed in his own home in the 1000 block of Superior Street in Benton Harbor.
South Bend Police Lt. Cindy Kilgore says police suspect he knew his killer because there was no sign of forced entry.
At the time of the murder, a suspect was arrested and charged for armed robbery, but police do not believe he was the shooter. They say the shooter was likely from the Detroit area.
They’ve reopened the case in hopes that enough time will have passed that people will share new information.
“Somebody always knows something,” Kilgore says. “Maybe ten years is enough for somebody to feel comfortable coming forward.”
