The Third Street Bridge in Logansport was renamed the Trooper Daniel R Barrett Memorial Bridge after a dedication ceremony at Patriot Park.

The bridge, which runs north and south over the Eel River, was renamed with the help of Indiana State Representatives Richard McClain and James Buck, who co-authored House Concurrent Resolution 0035 urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename part of State Road 17 in honor of Trooper Barrett. The resolution was sponsored by State Senator Tom Weatherwax.

Trooper Daniel R. Barrett, a Logansport native, died in the line of duty January 27th, 2008, after a car crash on U.S. 31 in Fulton County. The accident claimed the life of the 25-year-old trooper, making him the 43rd Indiana state trooper to die in the line of duty.

State Police say Sarah and Vincent Barrett, Daniel’s parents, and brother Patrick, thanked the Cass County community, law enforcement, and Representative McClain for all of the support they have received in the last few months.

The Indiana State Police tell NewsCenter16 that the Trooper Daniel Roy Barrett Memorial Bridge is the third bridge honoring a fallen state trooper in the city of Logansport. Trooper John Streu and Sergeant Glen Hosier, both Logansport natives, have also been honored with a bridge recognizing the ultimate sacrifice they paid while protecting the citizens and visitors of Indiana.

I think that what they have done to remember Daniel is gr8! He was a wonderful boy and always a good cub scout that followed in the scout motto. I too would like to see more of this kind of action...naming unnamed bridges, streets, etc. after someone who deserves to be remembered. Like Annie said "after fallen troopers, military personnel, all heroes"

Well said Annie. Lets get off the politics it is old and a waste of time. Stretching the truth at its best. Lie lie lie. Clinton Obama Clinton Obama blah blah blah. Jezzzzz Some good NEWS would be good

Yeah - some good news to report - something other than politics - it is about time we focus our attention on the positives a little bit and forget the negatives. We should be looking into renaming other roads, bridges, etc. after fallen troopers, military personnel, all heroes instead of constantly finding negativity.
