Drivers will be paying more on the Toll Road beginning April 1st. The cost to drive across Indiana will increase from $4.65 to $8.00.

That's not the case if you use the i-Zoom pass. The prices for those drivers will stay the same.

Here's how the i-Zoom works. It's just like Illinois's i-Pass and the E-Zpass. Those will also work here in Indiana, just like the i-Zoom will work in other states.

The pass costs $50. Ten-dollars is like a security deposit. You will get it back when you return the tag in good condition. The remaining $40 is for tolls. Your balance goes down as you use it. Once it hits $10, you will automatically be charged to be brought back up to a $50 balance.

There could also be some additional charges. If you use a credit card instead of a checking account, you will be charged $1 a month. Also, if you choose to get your statements in the mail instead of by email, you will also be charged $1 a month.

Gary Amacher's company is called Adz in Motion. He drives a truck with moving advertisements on its side. So when driving through the neighborhood is your lively hood, an increase in tolls can take its toll. That's why he choose to get an i-Zoom.

"You don't have to worry about all the change. Which is nice," Amacher says. "And I know they recognize it now in Chicago...or around Chicago...so we won't have to keep throwing that 50 cents out. Every time you turn around it's another 50 cents. This way you just keep on."

The i-Zoom won't only save you money, but time.

"An electronic tag will move you through three times as fast as a manual," says Matt Pierce from the Toll Road. "We can process about 300 vehicles per hour with a manual collector. With an electronic tag, we can do an excess of 1,000."

You can get an i-Zoom pass several ways.

You can pick it up at the i-Zoom Customer Care Center at 52551 Ash Road in Granger or call at 1-888-iZoom90. You can also apply online at www.getizoom.com

This will be my last post here, since I've grown bored with the raving, but since you asked - Bush? Absolutely. Look who the alternatives were. My only regret is that he isn't more conservative. And faced with the current sad selection of options, I will choose the least of all evils.

Hey Mej . . .even with your three jobs, I'll bet you don't make as much money as Willie from Niles. Now go home and get your shinebox . . .

Posted by: Mej Location: South Bend on Mar 27, 2008 at 01:51 PM
I'm signing off. My dialog has nothing to do with politics. I'm neither pro nor con to any political party. God Bless, we'll need it in the days to come.

Posted by: Mej Location: South Bend on Mar 27, 2008 at 01:36 PM
I bet I make more money than you Willie, but that has nothing to do with the level of fact my statements are based on. Fine if it makes you more confortable, I'll move to Niles instead of Canada. Let me guess Willie of Niles- you voted for Bush???

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Mar 27, 2008 at 01:16 PM
Sounds like Mej ought to spend less time raving on the internet and more time looking for a higher paying job. I hear lumberjacks are in high demand in Canada... :)

Unpaid toll.

Anyone know if the I-Zoom will be taxed at the new state tax rate that goes into effect June 2008???????? I get it- Cap the property tax- effective 2010, but increase the state tax rate 2 years before home owners see any relief. Then when I buy everything else I need in Indiana, the state will get 1 percent more- Every time I make a purchase! (This compounds way faster than collecting property taxes twice a year). Canada here I come!

I also plan to invest in some Euro companies to strengthen my US dollar that will be worth less than monopoloy money when this war in Iraq is over (1-Euro /Mar 27/ exchange rate: 1.5790 US dollars). Then maybe I will be able to afford the I-Zoom. Don't be so blind to the facts!

CityEmployee- Only if McCain and baby Bush come too.....

Posted by: CityEmployee Location: South Bend on Mar 27, 2008 at 10:31 AM
Mej - any way you can run over the Candian pig michael moore when you get there. Also, any chance you can take luecke, kernan, and b. pat with you? Take off, eh . .

To the few who got upset regarding my comment, please direct your ignorance to the person who you obviously voted for. Along with buying the I-Zoom, why don't purchase other items by bulk because it's cheaper by unit price-THAT I DON"T USE THAT OFTEN (because that makes so much sense). You read the story again, and if it still is o.k. with you then you're one of rich people in this world that is immune to bad politics and poor planning. Wille, Joel and Me- please give me a break. Who in their right mind looks at the increase of prices by this much in such a small amount of time and thinks this is the last time the rate will go up. Get a grip or maybe a I-Voom! I am over it. Canada- HERE I COME.

I am uncomfortable with change . . .I hate having to reset my clocks twice a year. I can't figure out technology. Technology is bad. Will someone please bring back Studebakers? Oh . . .help me. I am a Northern Indiana moron who sees no value in progress. Idiots! That Toll Road has been for years, and still is even with the increase, a bargain. But the mind-locked fools around here refuse to move ahead with everyone else. That's why this area is the butt of every joke about Indiana.

Get an IZOOM. Load it, and go. It is good in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio(I don't know about PA).

We have the I-Zoom that we already use in IL, (we travel to Iowa for family and hunting)alot in the Fall and Winter. It is awesome to have. And not that difficult to get set up. Just slow down and keep going, it is a snap, try it you will like it.

Do a little research see how much tolls cost in other states. With the pass you'll still be paying less than any other neighboring state. Also before you decide to boycott the Toll Road think about all the Hoosiers you'll be hurting yes the Toll Road is now leased by a foreign company but they still employ many good people from your hometown. And if the road gets shut down due to an accident it is for your safety the safety of the officers and workers on scene as well as those involved in the accident.

Mej.....please move to Canada. I'll come help you pack. It's common knowledge that Canada is far superior to America.

Posted by: Me Location: Indiana on Mar 26, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Move to Canada...use other roads... have you idiots even read this? Get the Izoom and the price stays the same.. What bunch of whiners.. Geez.. trying to be more efficient and people whine.. and for the guy that is complaining about the rebate checks... give it to me when it comes in June if you hate it so much.. I'll take your $600.. come on peopel grow up!!!

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Mar 26, 2008 at 01:04 PM
Read the story again: "That's not the case if you use the i-Zoom pass. The prices for those drivers will stay the same." If you can't handle the technology involved in keeping your cost the same, maybe you SHOULDN'T be driving on the toll road. Stay home and complain to your TV about the only Governor in years to do anything to advance the state. Or go ahead and move to Canada; you can live on the dole and complain about the snow.

i knew this was coming thanks mitch, see last of you after the next election

Posted by: peter Location: Buchanan on Mar 26, 2008 at 12:05 PM
How will they be using the extra funds??? Two weeks ago I went to Chicago, there was a flashing sign that read "stay in left lane, rough road" The toll road is a mess in areas. What about the terrible job they did over the winter, did'nt they realize that all winters are different??? How many accidents shut down parts of the toll road this year?? I would'nt mind so much if they would address these issues.

I'll be using an alternate route to South Bend now. Mitch wants to sell off Indiana piece by piece to foreigners; I'm not going to contribute to their earnings.

Posted by: Joe Mishawaka on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:28 AM
This is Bull. I wont use the toll road then. This state keeps up the stupid Crap there wont be anyone left here.Yea Mitch STUPID!

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 26, 2008 at 08:57 AM
Nice try at making us feel good about spending more money. I will be avoiding the toll road.

Posted by: Brian Location: Elkhart on Mar 26, 2008 at 08:46 AM
Thanks Mitch!!!!Way to go.. I've talked to several people, especially in the trucking business, and they'll go and even drive out of their way to avoid the toll road. I thought this sale, oops, I meant lease, was supposed to be a great thing to Indiana. I wonder really how much Mitch Daniels cut was to get this thing passed, I heard he got 12 million.

Does this really suprise anyone?!

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Mar 26, 2008 at 08:04 AM
So the government runs the toll road since circa 1956, electronic tolling has been available since the early 1990's, and it takes a private company less than two years to bring it up to par with neighboring states. Maybe if state and local government acted like a business, and not like a drunken sailor with a blank check, we'd all be a lot better off.

WHAT? Almost double? That is just plain ridiculous! From now on I'll use I-94 to U.S. 23 South to Angola and pick up the Ohio Turnpike there. Later for Indiana!!!

Posted by: Mayr Location: SB on Mar 26, 2008 at 06:57 AM
But will the place in granger switch out my I Pass for the I Zoom?

Posted by: Mej Location: South Bend on Mar 25, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Increases in tolls, gas, food...this world is going to HE double hockey sticks in a hand basket-fast! I wish for days that were as slow and simply as Mayberry. Bush four more....to finish us off! Anybody who voted for him is a fool. The rebate he offered the first couple of years in office was nothing but a setup for his war budgets and the one we get later this year will do nothing but help me put 16 gallons of gas into my 4 cylinder car at the whopping price of 50 dollars, economy stimulation my rear end, it's more like just getting by. Canada here I come!

Posted by: Me Location: Mishawka on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Time to move out of Indiana!!!! what a joke!

Posted by: Mike Location: Elkhart on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Nice going Mitch. Why don't you lease out something else???
