On Sunday, May 6th of last year, congregation members at North Pointe Bible Church traveled to the Granger parish for service.
They arrived to find firefighters sorting through ashes and rubble that had been their place of worship just one Sunday before.
“We had our services right out on the grounds here,” recalled Phil Lubenksy. “Luckily it was a nice day. I didn’t know what we were going to do next or where we were going to go, but day by day the Lord took us through that.”
For nearly a year, the small congregation met at a nearby church.
“It just really wasn’t the same as being in our church,” explained congregation member Chelsea Bayes. “It was really nice that they let us in, but just really different.”
Even for a congregation, there’s no place like home.
And for Easter services this Sunday, the North Pointe congregation returned home to a new and improved building.
“It reminds me of the psalm that says, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain to build it,’” explained North Pointe’s Father Seiter. “It’s amazingly nice, compared to what it was before -- and we thought it was good before.”
Good before, and better now. Church leadership and congregation members hope that they'll now be better able to do their work.
“Before, like I said, we were focused on facilities,” Lubenksy explained. “Well now we don’t have to do that. We can focus on people, we can focus on ministries and outreach to the greater Granger community.”
“I think it looks amazing. I am so excited to be back in this building,” exclaimed Bayes. “Hopefully we’ll get some new people, and just really increase the ministry of this church.”
A re-dedication service will take place at North Pointe next Saturday.
The Granger community is invited to attend.
