For the past 13 years, NewsCenter 16 and our volunteer organizations have worked hard collecting, packing and handing out backpacks full of school supplies for deserving kids in our area. During that time we have distributed more than 41,000 back to school kits to children in grades K through 6 throughout WNDU-TV’s 10-county viewing area, but we still need your help.
From Monday through August 2nd NewsCenter 16 will be collecting school supplies like backpacks, big erasers, binders, color pencils, crayons, filler paper, folders, glue sticks, markers, notebooks, pencil boxes, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors and more.
You can drop off donations at any area McDonald’s or Notre Dame Federal Credit Union location. McDonald’s will give you a free small McCafe beverage of your choice as a thank you.
If you want to wait, you can bring your donations to one of our live Backpack drive locations on Saturday, August 2nd between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
NewsCenter 16 will be broadcasting from these locations:
o WNDU-TV 54516 STATE ROAD 933, SOUTH BEND
o GOSHEN MCDONALD’S—1706 ELKHART/GOSHEN ROAD
o PLYMOUTH MCDONALD’S—2010 N. MICHIGAN STREET
o ST. JOE, MICHIGAN MCDONALD’S—2820 NILES ROAD
The goal is to provide enough basic supplies for a child to start the school year. The child can focus on learning rather than feeling unprepared and embarrassed. Plus, teachers don’t have to stop teaching in order to scrounge up basic supplies for the child.
