Mishawaka, Ind. 16 Morning News is ringing in the holidays with the Salvation Army of St. Joseph County on Thursday.

Starting at 5 a.m. Christine Karsten became a Red Kettle volunteer at the Indian Ridge Wal-Mart in Mishawaka.

Kate Chappell took over at 7 a.m. and Tricia Sloma will take over at 9 a.m.

Then, at 11:30, meteorologist David Harker will be at the Wal-Mart on Ireland Road in South Bend bell ringing until about 1 p.m. Watch for live coverage throughout the morning and afternoon.

The mayors of Mishawaka, Dave Wood and South Bend, Pete Buttigieg, will also be ringing at that location this afternoon as part of the Salvation Army's "Celebrity Bell Ringing" effort. Watch for an interview with them on NewsCenter 16 at Noon.

The Salvation Army has been worried about meeting its fundraising goal this year. They say the shorter time between Thanksgiving and Christmas has left them less time to raise money. This year, they plan to help 1,000 families in the county. Their goal is to raise $360,000 and the Red Kettle Campaign is one of their biggest ways of doing that.
