Reports from Indy: Sampson out at IU-University says status unchanged

Officials at Indiana University repudiated internet stories filed earlier on Thusday that basketball coach Kelvin Sampson had been relieved of his duties.

The NBC affiliate in Indianapolis reported on its website that Sampson will not finish the season as coach due to NCAA allegations hanging over him and the program.

WTHR reports that former IU player and assistant coach to Bob Knight, Dan Dakich, will take over the program on an interim basis.

The NCAA announced earlier this month that there are five major vioiations alledged against Sampson for improper recruting practices involving illegal phone calls to prospective recruits and then lying to the NCAA.

Athletics director Rick Greenspan was given a week to conduct an internal investigation into the allegations. Greenspan will announce his findings on Friday
