Police re-open Toll Road, release identity after deadly morning crash

Police say black ice is to blame for a deadly crash Tuesday morning on the Indiana Toll Road.

Four semis and a car collided around 5:45 a.m. at the 57-mile-marker, near LaPorte.

41-year-old semi driver Wojciech "Wally" Fosciak from Mount Prospect, Illinois died when the chains holding steel coils he was hauling snapped in the crash, crushing his cab.

His semi then burst into flames.

The LaPorte County coroner says Fosciak died of massive blunt force trauma and burns.

Another person suffered minor injuries.

The accident shut down the toll road for several hours, while crews cleaned up the crash.

Eastbound traffic re-opened at around 5:00 Tuesday evening, and westbound lanes re-opened earlier.
