Thursday is Valentine’s Day and, aside from giving and sending flowers, chocolate remains at the top of many people’s lists.
People at the South Bend Chocolate Company have been busy preparing for one of their busiest days of the year.
An estimated 30,000 pieces of candy are made daily this time of year.
Everything is on-hand from chocolate-dipped strawberries, gift baskets, boxed chocolates and even chocolate roses.
While many people have their gifts already purchased, others wait until the last minute.
“Christmas is a holiday were women prepare a special gift and they are the large purchasers; this is a holiday largely for men, and men are ‘wait til today’ types,” said Mark Tarner, the owner of the South Bend Chocolate Company.
The Chocolate Company goes through about 9,000 pounds of chocolate every day leading up to Valentine’s Day.
