12-year-old, 1 other injured in Nappanee motorcycle crash

NAPPANEE, Ind. -- A 62-year-old Nappanee motorcyclist and his 12-year-old passenger were both injured when they were thrown from the bike in an afternoon crash.

It happened shortly before 3 p.m. on US 6, west of CR 100.

Elkhart County Police say the driver of an SUV, Amanda Kindel, was stopped on the shoulder facing east.

She made a U-turn and collided with the motorcycle carrying Kenneth Miller and Morgan Berry of Nappanee.

Both were wearing helmets.

Miller was airlifted to Memorial Hospital with three broken ribs, a collapsed lung and other internal injuries.

Berry was also taken to Memorial with leg pain and abrasions.

The SUV driver wasn't injured.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department crash team is investigating the accident.
