Trial begins for man charged in Amber Alert abduction

It has been under a year since police arrested a man for allegedyly shooting one man and then kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and their four children in Elkhart.

Today, jury selection begins for 30-year-old Jerry White. White is the man police say caused an Amber Alert that drew national attention.

White is accused of breaking into Kimberly Walker’s home in Elkhart and holding the people inside hostage. Police say he shot the boyfriend of Walker’s sister, 30-year-old Lathie Turnage.

White then allegedly left with Walker and their four children.

After days of searching, police discovered the family at the Sleepy Hollow Motel in Elkhart.

Police say a pizza delivery man dropping off some food recognized the family and tipped off police.

The four children and Walker were physically unharmed in the incident.

White faces 15 charges, including attempted murder and criminal confinement. If convicted, White faces nearly two hundred years in prison.
