St. Joseph County Officer Hit by Drunk Driver

A St. Joseph County police officer is recovering after being hit by a drunk driver.

The accident happened while the officer was working another drunk driving accident.

Wednesday night 50 year old Edgar Wolfe was arrested. His blood test showed his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

St. Joseph County officer Corporal Shawn Albright was assisting the Osceola Police Department with an accident on Lincolnway East.

Witnesses say he was sitting in his police car with his emergency lights on when Wolfe slammed into the passenger's side of his vehicle.

Albright is now recovering from a concussion, lacerations to his face, and broken nose.

Corporal Albright is expected to make a full recovery

The accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving especially during the holidays.

“Obviously people need to know that its a time of celebration and people need to know that people should be getting together and having a good time if you are going to do that don't drink and drive,” says Sgt. Matt Blank with St. Joseph County Police Department.

Statistics show that at least one thousand people die from drinking and driving accidents during the holidays.
