A change in leadership takes effect Monday for the city of Mishawaka.
Mayor Jeff Rea is stepping down and Dave Wood is stepping up to the challenge.
Last month, Rea announced he's leaving office after nearly seven years to pursue a career with the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce.
On Thursday night, the republican precinct committee voted for Wood to take his place.
After the vote, Rea said he may not carry the title of mayor anymore, but he'll still have his eyes on what's going on in the city.
"I'll be watching from the sidelines, cheering him on as we do it, but also working in the trenches with him as my role in the chamber gives me a greater opportunity to work with the entire region."
The official changeover is effective at 5 p.m. Monday.
