Lincoln Township Police say a body has been recovered from Lake Michigan that's believed to be that of missing Chicago resident, Timothy Horvath.

A body was spotted floating near the shoreline around 8 Wednesday morning. American Electric Power security at the DC Cook Plant first found it.

Officers recovered the body and had it transported to Lakeland hospital in St. Joseph. The Berrien County Medical Examiner will examine it to confirm identity and cause of death.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Crews have called off their search on Lake Michigan for a swimmer who's been missing since Friday night.

Lake Township police say 26-year-old Timothy Horvath of Chicago was swimming with two friends in the high waves in Bridgman Friday night around 6:00 when he was swept away by the current. His friends both made it back to shore safely and a witness called 9-1-1.

Crews searched until well after dark Friday night and resumed searching for Horvath on Saturday, but at 1:00 p.m. they called off the water search due to rough waves.

Ground searches will continue until night fall, but at this point police have presumed Horvath to be drowned.
