Blue Jeans Bar destroyed by fire

A Mishawaka bar and restaurant was destroyed this afternoon when a fire tore through it just after lunchtime.

The Blue Jeans Bar and Grill, off of McKinley near the AM General Plant caught fire a little after noon.

Just a few people were inside when the fire started but soon dozens of firefighters took their place.

Seventy-five firefighters from seven different departments fought to contain the fire.

However, in the end, it was too late to save the restaurant.

David Eckert was inside the bar when it caught fire and says, “I heard a sound that sounded like hail on a tin roof. And when I looked up and saw whisps of white smoke coming from the smoke the smoke heaters. that's when I evacuated everybody from the building.”

Everyone got out safely and fire crews won't know what started the fire until they could get inside which likely would not happen until this evening.
