South Bend Washington senior Gehrig Dieter will play Division I football at Southern Methodist next year.
The Panther wide receiver made his announcement during halftime of the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl game Tuesday night in Phoenix.
Dieter chooses SMU over Kansas and will enroll next month. SMU was Dieter's top choice until Kansas hired Charlie Weis as its head coach last month to make it a 2-way race. In the end, Dieter chose to help be part of the process of leading the Mustangs into the Big East.
Dieter was selected a 1st team All-American by Max Preps on Monday. He set the Indiana and national single game receiving records during the 1st month of his senior season.
