Too few get screened for common cancers
According to a new report from the CDC and the National Cancer Institute, not enough Americans are being screened for common cancers despite the disease becoming a growing issue in the United States.

According to a new report from the CDC and the National Cancer Institute, not enough Americans are being screened for common cancers despite the disease becoming a growing issue in the United States.

Researchers found that in 2010 about 72 percent of women were being screened for breast cancer. That number falls below the national target of 81 percent.

That same year, just 83 percent of women were screened for cervical cancer, which is below the CDC’s target of 93 percent.

Additionally, only about 59 percent of Americans were screened for colon cancer, which is well below the target of 70 percent.

Racial and ethnic populations were also lagging noticeably behind as screening rates for Asians and Hispanics were even lower.
