Although cesarean section surgeries are common and generally considered safe, new research suggests they may not be best for some tiny babies.
C-sections are often performed for babies who aren't growing like they should in the womb, because they have a condition called intra-uterine growth restriction.
However, researchers found that those babies born via c-section before week 34 of pregnancy were nearly a third more likely to develop breathing problems than similar babies born via the birth canal.
Doctors also say sometimes c-sections are medically necessary for the health of the mother and infant.
