Memorial Hospital averted shortage of childhood cancer drug

A threatened nationwide shortage of a drug needed to fight the most common form of childhood cancer has been averted at Memorial Children's Hospital, for now.

A threatened nationwide shortage of a drug needed to fight the most common form of childhood cancer has been averted at Memorial Children's Hospital, for now.

Friday Memorial told News Center 16 they had received a shipment of preservative free Methotraxate a drug needed to fight Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL.

The shipment will last until the end of February.

Thursday Pediatric Oncologist Colleen Morrison told me that while the FDA announced three US plants would ramp up production of the drug, Oncologists would be a bit fearful until the drug arrived in their pharmacy.

Now that it's their doctors, parents and their kids at Memorial Children's Hospital can focus on the battle at hand, beating cancer.
