The students at Kennedy Primary Academy pulled together to raise what they could for recovery efforts in Haiti.
Thursday, the students were able to raise over $1700 to fund food, water, and shelter.
Students came to first grade teacher Elyse Anderson and told her they wanted to help Haitian people. A child said they had a lot of toys, and they could be given away.
So they held a garage sale in the gym on Saturday.
“I think they really understand that some people aren't as fortunate as they are to have great schools and wonderful buildings, safe homes, and have all these things we take for granted,” Gena Robinson from the American Red Cross said.
“It just made them feel wonderful. I think that they really understand they are helping people that they don't even know,” teacher Elyse Anderson said.
Students in the South Bend School Corporation have raised over $10,000 for the Red Cross Relief Effort in Haiti through garage sales, bake sales, school dances, and dress down days.
