First Source Bank held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate their new energy saver project -- implementing new LED lights.

The Bank has replaced 20 exterior lights with new LED lights which will reduce energy use by 62 percent.

Bank officials hope this project will open more doors to save more energy in the future.

"We have so many things lined up so we want to be one of the leading companies in the South Bend community and beyond in all of the communities that we serve to reduce our impact on the environment and hopefully set the tone for others to do the same," said Mary Chmiel, supervisor of First Source Bank.

The new led lights will also reduce the amount of green house gas emissions of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide that goes into the atmosphere.

"There's a lot of emissions from green house gases with the old fashion lighting," said Chmiel. "When you implement the LED lighting like mercury and sulfur dioxide, it's just amazing. You can really reduce the negative impact that the company is having on a business."
