With Earth Day on Friday, Better World Books employees were cleaning Michiana Highways as part of the Indiana Department of Transportation Trash Bash.
Dozens of employees from Better World Books in Mishawaka were along Capital Avenue picking up trash.
Workers at the company have 16 hours that they can use to volunteer around the community and many chose to pick up roadside garbage hoping that their effort will make people think twice about throwing trash out of their car.
"Kind of putting the message out there that because it is Earth Day," said participant Paul Sexton. "We want to clean up our environment and make the area we work in a little bit cleaner and we are hoping the people driving by today and the people that see this will be a little more conscience of the decisions their making to throw the trash out of their vehicles."
IDOT collected over 79 tons of loose debris in 2010's state-wide Trash Bash.
