Hummer maker AM General is going green, expanding into the electric vehicle business.
The Mishawaka-based company will be responsible for final assembly of Ford Motor Co.'s electric Transit Connect commercial vans, which will go on sale next spring.
Michigan-based Azure Dynamics made the announcement Tuesday. Azure is making the electric drivetrain system for the Transit Connect.
Ford plans to ship engine-less Transit Connects from its factory in Turkey to an AM General facility in Livonia, Michigan, where workers will install the electric system.
