More than $2 billion in federal tax credits is going toward boosting job growth in clean energy technologies, and almost $17 million of it is coming to Elkhart.
The money will come from the federal stimulus package. The president said on Friday it’s expected to create tens of thousands of green jobs nationwide.
Of the $35 million coming to Indiana, $16.9 million will go to "Think North America." The company just announced this week it will build its first North American plant in Elkhart County to make an all-electric car.
"Think” officials say this federal money will be in addition to local and state incentives, meant to get Indiana's economy going again.
"Indiana is centrally located, it's nearby the Detroit automakers, but also to the whole bunch of suppliers in the country,” said John Harmon, communications director of "Think." “And the combination of that, and the ready and able workforce, we're really excited about the future of manufacturing in Indiana."
Three other Indiana companies will also get chunks of the tax credit.
